WOW!!!!!!!!!THX U VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!this really work!!! after of posting about 30+++ fxxking post in this useless forum!!! finaly u are the one who saved me from this memory leak problem....now my game work super fine... get 20-30 FPS on med + very high..everything els is 40 - 50 - 100....i really own u!!!!

I love how people can spell so well and make grammatically correct sentences on this forum.

Hey funny guy. Although this is en-us forum stop laughing at people who put a lot of effort to express what they think in your native language. Being native speaker doesn't make you better. Remember - we all non native english speakers know AT LEAST one more language than u do.

I don't think you guys have memory leaks, I think you have bad memory...

Well as far as I know memory leak means BUGGY PROGRAM, no hardware involved.

Definatelly not a bad memory. . It's a bad coded program.

Hope they can fix it.

it doesn't work for me, it's a shame, it starts to lag even at the beginning R* logo, so did i miss something?

i'm using med texture with X2 4400 and ATI 4670 and 2 gb ram

so -memrestrict 314572800 is the one, right?

any clue? mercie_blink.gif

THANKS A BILLION SWSUK! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

First I thought it didn't work when I put it in a commandline.txt file, but I forgot about putting it in the shortcut target thing, and now GTA IV is working like a charm! No freezes for the past 5 hours!

Graphics great, AA mehh, FPS 17 (when raining) to 60, shadows terrible, but who gives a flying fudge (at least to me).

Thanks again! lol.gif

Huh? Do you have to do commandline and shortcut target? Soz, but I'm confused now....

Depends on your problem. To do a commandline parameter, you right-click on the GTA IV shortcut on desktop > Properties > Shortcut tab > Target

Type the commandline (e.g. -memrestrict 314572800 for medium settings) at the end of the file path. Here's mine:

"C:\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -memrestrict 314572800

Works for me!

Oh, and by the way, thegame froze 2 times since I last posted, but they were only in Video Editor, so... dozingoff.gif At least the game is running well!

Oh, and Merry Christmas to all!

What exactly is this "memory leak" you speak of?

Don't give me a false quote while you are running 500 mb ram

and have your memory overclocked.

:EDIT:

After further testing I can safely say that this did not work for me. High/medium/low didn't make a difference.

And the increased performance was apparently brought on by something else as my game still loads faster even after removing this from my commandline.

I got the best results with low, it took longer to suffer the effects of the memory leak but eventually it still happened.

With medium it not only did not change the length of time or magnitude of the stutters but also caused the missing texture glitch after a time. (Which incidentally raised my FPS, which makes sense seeing as how it did not have to load any textures besides peds and cars.)

With high setting there was no change at all.

The only thing that has worked for me so far is the program Memturbo 4. It completely removes the memory leak effect of stuttering frames after a certain amount of time. I don't like running this program though and in all honesty wish I didn't have to rely on third party software to get the game to actually be playable.

Thanks for making this topic and sharing this, as it does seem to be working out for some people. Good luck all, I sincerely hope you get better results than me smile.gif

I was never suffering from low FPS but always recieved a RESC10 crash between 1 and 1.5 hours of playing. I now use the -availablememvid command at 1.5 and also the memrestrict for medium textures as posted here. Now instead of simply crashing after 1.5 hours I first lose the radio in cars, and then 5 mins later it stutters a lot, then 10-15mins later it crashes. The good thing about this is that instead of instantly crashing, I can complete whatever mission i was doing or get to a safehouse to save the game and then quit and restart the game.

I'm no PC expert, and I don't know why this makes a difference, but it does seem to work in different ways for different people. Let's keep hope up for a second patch with some good fixes.

Sorry guys. I know I'm going to sound like a n00b but, where do you enter these? smile.gif

go into your GTA folder and create a new text file called commandline

depending if you can see file extensions or not, it should be commandline.txt but if you cant see any .xxx on other files

assume its already .txt and just name it commandline

Then add that line and save the file.

This fix doesn't work for me at all. I'm really disappointed by Rockstar.

I still get that graphic freeze, and after it, the game runs totally slow (@10fps).

You do know that you have No Restrictions, then you have a mem restrict, which, kind of cancels each other out.

So I should delete -norestrictions, but keep noprecache?

I just tried and i think i saw an improvement but the game will still stutter after some play time ~1 hour.

Should we choose the value based on graphical settinga (like high textures) or available video memory?

Just a quick question really, for those who say this doesnt help.

Are you pushing your settings beyond or very close to the resource limit

I found that by using 75% of my resources helped conisderably, whereas 95% and way over 100% just made things a lot worse

Also... something I noticed with Clip Capture, turn it off and back on to see if it gives you an error message.

On a few occassions with higher settings I got a message saying my resources where insufficient to enable clip capture, yet it was enabled prior to that without any error messages etc.. now thats bound to cause an issue.

It seems like R* dont have something in there to auto disable clip capture if your system wont be able to handle it.

Finally, this was in no way meant to cure performance.. it was to stop GTA crashing to the desktop with the RESC10 Out of video memory error

well i still get missing textures after a few hours so no fix for me. mad.gif

but how long did it take before you added this commandline.

This hasnt completely fixed it for me either but it allowed me to play and complete the story in GTA with a lot less hassle such as it crashing before I finished a mission etc

I tried this and it seemed to work, frame rate dropped a tad though it felt. Managed to get 2 hours solid play out of it but then again without making any changes last week I got 4 hours solid play.

When I tried it again a few minutes ago I just manged to get 5 minutes play before it dropped to slideshow mode sad.gif

Nice try though but looks like were still gonna have to wait for Cockstar to fix the memory leak.
