When I use the amount for low settings, I'm getting the missing texture problem. Using the amount for medium settings fixed that, but I am playing at low settings. Everything is turned down to the minimum, except for my res, which is forced to 1440*900 using the Ultimate Performance Fix. Maybe this fixes the texture problem too?

hi,

where do i add those command lines??

memrestrict etc

thanks

You can either edit the shortcut and add it to the end or have a look around for creating the command.txt file

Ive not done this since I have no need, theres info on this forum telling you where to create the file etc

I am now testing with a higher value of 524288000 to see what results I get.

I asked R* for an explanation as to how they arrived at the values, unfortunatly not heard back yet

Now, that's EXACTLY 200 MB, 300 MB and 600 MB smile.gif

Exactly! so this is pritty useless... just use this: -availablevidmem 2.0

P.S  Dont thank me... Thank R* if this works

Thank you.Thank you, that we can correct the game that you made.Thank you, that we can correct the game that you made two weeks after the actual release.Thank you that you actually cared what happens to all the Pc gamers.Even if this doesn't work completely.Thank you that you made a patch that made things worse for some people. You know...i simply can't thank them enough for their work...keep it up guys!!!!Some day you can even become professionals!!Maybe...

Easy tiger.... We all feel the same in some respects but theres already a million and one of these posts, another isnt really needed

Besides, R* Torronto didnt have to PM me, he / she didnt have to send me a reply message with a possible fix. I didnt call them

I didnt email them, I just posted on this forum which isnt owned by R* it may sound like Im defending them, but im just happy the person who sent me that PM was able to offer a solution which worked for me and by the looks of it, some others too.

That still doesn't make up for the fact that WE the gaming community,WE WHO PAYED for the game,WE who had to put with the console exclusive crap for six months,WE who knew the game had that damn DRM, and WE STILL bought it.And now WE have to fix the game. And THEY,THEY who took our money,THEY who put DRM in a game that doesn't even work,THEY who said only 1% of the gaming community had problems with the game,THEY who released a "fix" that made the game worse for some folks,do you honestly believe you'll get a solotiun for your problems from the guys who made a patch that doesn't even work by some people?I see everyone after an hour is getting slowdowns again.Great fix.I'm not attacking you,Swsuk. Are we really supposed to be happy that they actually want to fix a game that they screwed up??Well,hooooraay....i'm finally gettin' my money's worth!

RockStar Games T. Do-it-yourself optimization kit for kids-----out stores december 22. only for $9.99

I don't think you guys have memory leaks, I think you have bad memory...

Do you know anything about computer hardware???

If it was bad memory then pretty much every application would bomb...the fact that Rockstar actually came up with their own error codes for specific problems should tell you something. Obviously they knew their was going to be issues that they did not have time to fix before this poor PC release. These error codes let them determine where the most issues are occurring and then they can build a better patch.

...

Think before you post stupid half ass dim witted comments...

Yes you are correct, 629 mb to be exact...

So this would most likely be dictating the amount of VRAM to be used...so if I am using over 768mb of VRAM then this will do what? Unfortunately I exceed my VRAM as I am using High textures, which makes no sense in it's self as the high textures are no better than any other current release title and all of them allow for high textures at much better frames.

Easy yourself, *he just expressed his/hers feeling, and that's not allowed? Yes, with your first line it does sound like you're defending R*. Good for you that someone bothered to fix your problem, too bad they didn't bother to fix everyones problem.

How come there's someone PM'ing certain people with a possible way to fix the problem, instead of releasing it to everyone?

swsuk - thank you very much for sharing this. This may have well fixed my "Out of video memory" issue.

Much appreciated biggrin.gif

From what I can tell, it allows GTA to see your available ram, thus set the graphics options to what is desired, but then physically limits GTA from filling up your VRAM, I dont know all I know is my game doesnt crash now, im enjoying playing and with a few more tweaks such as the 'ultimate performance mod stickied' im now able to play on high textures.

How come there's someone PM'ing certain people with a possible way to fix the problem, instead of releasing it to everyone?

Perhaps since everybody has different hardware and they are testing ? Not everybody is posting as much detailed information as I sent through to them hence why they came back with a possible solultion, again I dont know, perhaps if you phoned them with details they may give you pointers or perhaps not, Ive not tried.

Same as most of you guys (possibly) my first point of call was a forum which is 'customer to customer' nothing to do with R*

Im not defending anybody... Im a customer just like you, but Im also not one for taking credit for others work, hence my comment of 'dont thank me'

Yeah agreed, possible fixes, workarounds etc should be posted by R* because if this was on theri site and it fixed even 1% its a start until a next patch is available.

I also realise that nobody is attacking me personally (at least I hope) but wanted to make it clear on why I said it.

P.S Ive since tweaked the values, used the other force resolution mod (stickied) and the game is extremely stable, altough I get the occassional FPS drop still, so far Ive played for extended periods of 3+ hours without an issue. of an average of 35FPS

Holy crap this worked for me dontgetit.gif...

I put -memrestrict 314572800 and now I can run at medium stable without too much of stuttering...

Ended up using commandlne:

-memrestrict 314572800

-fullspecaudio

Ingame settings:

1280*1024

Textures: medium

Render: very high

Draw: 30

Detail: 30

Vehicle: 30

Shadows: 0

this with VSync forced on in catalyst control center = rather smooth and stable gameplay for almost 5 hours with unpatched and securom bypassed (running about 25 frames per second, exept for few parts of the town it drops below 20 but it's no biggie)

So far so good, gonna play some more and maybe experiment little bit and see if I can raise FPS wee bit higher.

So thanks a bunch, now I can actually play longer than 30mins at a time inlove.gif

Hate to be pedantic, but don't forget that 1KB = 1024 Bytes and 1MB = 1024KB, so it IS precisely 600MB on the dot.

Phew spent couple of hours testing and tweaking and it's sad to say that still I get better framerates with high textures than on low or medium... but anyway the stuttering is minimal even on high textures for me with the memrestrict, so I'll live.

..wait, restricting the memory to 200mb, 300mb or 600mb fixes the memory leak?

Has anyone tried this game on 512ram?

Could it pull Low?

Please note I'm not really a big-time gamer, I would like to play GTA: IV maybe three-times a week for around 30 minutes or a hour after school. so would it play all-low on this system and pull 15fps atleast?, again, I don't mind if it's 15FPS @ all low 640x480, I would just like to play.

Intel P4 3.0GHZ

ATi Radeon X1300 256MB

512Ram

Thanks.

EDIT: Damn, that's Video Memory restrictions, isn't it?

could I still play on 512ram?

Running on:

Athlon 64 X2 5000+

4GB DDR2

Audigy 2 ZS

Asus EAH4850

Vista Ultimate x64

And the game DOES stutter still, but it ain't even near as bad as it was before... it's actually quite playable even at mid and low 20's.

Nothing it works a little bit only if I put high textures, if I change them to medium the game stutters too much... Anyway stutters too much....

So how do I use this?

Do I modify the shortcut for social club? Thats the only way I know how to start the game. I start social club and then I click on play.

My game crashes all the time too so I want to try this.

Thanks.

i think the best way is to create a TXT file in the same folder where GTAIV.EXE is.

right click->new->text document and call the file commandline.txt

inside that new file, that should be empty, type just this:

-memrestrict 314572800

if u want u can try typing this line:

-memrestrict 629145600

or this line:

-memrestrict 209715200

but that depends on your graphics card. if your card has 512mb of memory than go with the first option. if it has less than maybe go with the third option. see if it helps.

Thanks for sharing with us swsuk, it worked for me and my GTX260 in vistax64

**EDIT** It worked the first time for a 2 hour gaming session. After reboot I can't seem to get it running smoothly again.
