~! Ultimate GTAIV Performance Fix !~

This fix doesn't make your game any faster than it already ran at 800x600, so unfortunately, it won't improve performance for those who could never get a decent frame rate.

The "trick" worked as advertised, but I gained no performance.

so is this saying run the resolution lower get higher performance? ..

and was the recomended specs ever saying what resolution to run @ ? would be intresting to know

This fix will help people with sh*t GPUs but strong CPUs.

I totally disagree. I tried this tweak on my dual-core Xeon (3.6ghz) and Geforce GTX 280 and got a HUGE performance increase (+10fps). And I certainly wouldn't call the GTX 280 a "sh*t" GPU.

There's something really wrong with this game because performance is inconsistent on all different kinds of systems.

Unfortunately, the tweak makes the water and shadows look bad so I went back to my original settings....

EDIT: just wanted to add that my GPU does not get hot AT ALL when playing this game (only 5 degrees from idle)

Yepp, overclocking was the solution for me too. Although this sounds interesting I don't need it.

I have an average system: I overclocked my CoreDuo E6600 from 2400 to 2970 MHZ which is no problem with a good cooling system (no water cooling required for this speed though) RAM is still at 800 MHZ because it's from MDT and not THAT fast. And I overclocked my 8800 GTS 640 with ExpertTool (GPU, Memory, Shaders) each by around 10%-15% (550,1650,1300)). At all settings at HIGH / MAXED I get 30-40 fps outdoors.

I really enjoy that game now.

Hi, Tom,

I also found overclocking my CPU to be very helpful. I'm using a dual-core Xeon @ 3.6ghz and a GTX 280 graphics card on windows XP SP3 with forceware 180.70 (the new betas crash my system).

You say you're getting 30-40fps on maxed out settings on a similar (but slower) system and yet my faster PC only runs it at about 30fps and sometimes will dip below 20fps for no apparent reason. I have my settings at 50/75/75/0 for draw distance, detail, vehicle, and shadows respectively. If I even turn shadows from 0 to 1, my fps plummet to unplayable levels.

Do you have any advice?? Do you use any command line options??

Thanks.

This does not work consistently or reliably at all, followed instructions multiple times but no dice.

available memory is set at 2.88 which gives my 480 MB visible HD 4850 1383 MB of RAM, just enough to get 100 on view distance / high textures at the lowest 16:10 resolution. Saved settings, exited game, added -height and -width into commandline, no other parameters other than the 2.88, and it shows 1680x1050 in my settings upon restart. All you say monkey is "Well you must be doing it wrong", well no, maybe your instructions are wrong or this doesn't work for everyone. We're not dumb asses here.

That is not true, back there I said, It works for some people and not for other people. If your sure you did everything and it didn't work well then too bad, doesn't work for you. confused.gif

I've tried everything and it keeps crashing with fatal error D3D, please restart the game.

Ind the end I deleted commandline.txt and I was able to start the game again.

I guess your calculations doesnt work for me.

Guys, it definetely doesn't work as all others placebo tricks here, and I am now posting proofs:

Ok, fa**ot, try to explain this if you can or, better, go to bed:

WITH THE TRICK APPLIED (correctely as described, in fact I have 1680*1050 in game but the game says 800*600, without any other command lines, in fact I am over "available mem.")

user posted image

WITHOUT THE TRICK APPLIED (in fact, look: 1680*1050 in stead of 800*600)

user posted image

THE SAME! (even more LOL) WTF?!?!?!? ANOTHER PLACEBO TRICK?!?! WHAT A NEWS!!!

So people DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! I posted it because I hate you placebo adviser. You should f*ck off as any other Rockstar guys that ruined our game.

Sir, you are the biggest placebo, you just made a complete fool of yourself. I would never post anything on here If I had no proof behind it.

If clearly people are saying It decreased performance or made things worse, or better, its not a placebo. And the in game benchmark is useless. And this doesn't work for all people but it clearly works for some. Like me.

If its a placebo can you explain why I can now play in middle 20s FPS outdoors in 1280x800 res with no long pop in's and no disappearing textures?..

Lets look at our evidence:

Here is GTAIV running full screen 800x600 in game settings on my computer (dear god the stretching is awful so jaggy):

http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/1372/gt...0fullewwkk7.jpg

Now heres GTAIV running windowed mode in 1680x1050 in game settings (ahh its a houndini magic show every things disappearing):

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/7647/gt...0missingdy2.jpg

Now here is what this tweak does, here its in windowed mode though, its 800x600 in game, but using the tweak to have the window native size 1680x1050 (Sharp, no missing objects):

http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/571/gta...0stretchxj3.jpg

Now wheres my proof?

*Oh nice monkey, you showed us some screens but you have no proof!.

*Oh yes i do!.

Here the game is 800x600 in game options but tweaked to play at 1680x1050 (look at the highlights/sun reflection on the water):

http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/2272/shad...0stretchye9.jpg

Here is the game at 1680x1050 in game, no tweak (notice the waters highlights/sun reflection is not as stretched, higher res, because in the first screen we are cheating the reflections to not up with the res, also notice in the distance everything disappears):

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/1943/sh...1050normjv4.jpg

And to keep things fair, in those water screens, the game was maxed, high textures, high render, full distance, full detail, hence the FPS remained 10 in both!.

I rather play the game in a higher res with no disappearing objects and no pop-ins with lower reflection maps, than the game in a high res with better reflection maps but everything disappears.

This tweak shmozzle does something!, so its not a placebo. I'm happily running the game 1280x800 with medium tex, hi rend, always in the 20s. So I honestly can care less if you believe me, the evidence is here that it will help someone and if you don't believe me then don't. Ill go enjoy my game while you can sit there and sob.

And may I end this by saying, think before you post!. Hey lets call GTAIV a placebo the game doesn't exist its just a illusion. Lol.

Oh btw, learn to spell.

correctely
is spelt correctly, so funny how you incorrectly spelt correctly. Edited by MonkeyMhz

Definatly use commandline to open up your game more. I use

-norestrictions -nomemrestrict -novblank -texturequality 2 -renderquality 4 -viewdistance 100 -detailquality 100 -shadowdensity 3

Adjust the qulity and detail ones etc to suit your own tastes but they won't work in conjunction with this trick in the topic as it defeats it. You have to choose one or another.

I am going to start some experiments to cut reflection sizes through the data files so that they can be used with the commandlines more, hopefully anyway.

I still think that MonkeyMhz is on to something and it is more than just a placebo.

Min FPS outdoors - 36

I just don't understand how you get this. I'm running it on

1680x1050

detail 50

draw distance 40

textures medium (if I set to high I get better performance but with a lot of pop-up lol.gif)

rendering very high (practically no impact comparing with high)

My average framerate between 35 and 40 (as provided from fraps), maxing out on 49-50 (outdoors) with dips to 12 FPS. This happens on a random occasion and has NOTHING to do with stuff going on. For example, I'm in Roman's garage and getting into one of his cars, the camera looks down and the game practically stalls for a second or two. During car chases I get something like 24 to 30 FPS.

All the time in game doesn't seem very smooth. It jerks around more then other games at same FPS. It doesn't make any sense.

My PC

4870 512 MB

C2Q 9300

4 GB RAM 1066 MHz

i ask the same thing.. cause my fps are dipping down to 19 outdoors in a chase or something like that.. and at star junction they are always 20-25 which is quite unplayable -.-

i'm running a

[email protected]

4gb ram

hd4850

vista x64

my system can't be too slow and i think that i might be able to geht min fps outdoors around 30 but HOW ? biggrin.gifsad.gif

and yes.. my fps maxxes out outdoors at 45-50fps and indoors i've always around 45-60fps.

but i would prefer to habe around 30-35fps all the time than damn 50fps sometimes and other times unplayable 20fps confused.gif///

@MonkeyMhz:

Well, I don't know how say it... You're a f*cking genius man!

All the annoying "micro-stutters" are now gone.

I just can't believe that this is working at all.

Finally I can play waayyyy smoother, thanks alot. I love you man. inlove.gif

Im still going to try this but what the hell am I seeing here:

'..also notice in the distance everything disappears'

http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/2272/shad...tchye9.jpg

The distance disappears? You're just looking in the other direction where the isn't suppose to be anything, are you not?

gta iv patched

Anyway I just tried it and I did get a performance boost. But at the same time the dynamic shadows during nighttime disappeared (even though the shadow density displays itself as being set to 16 in the options menu), the daytime shadows look horrible (as opposed to what I had read saying 'almost no visible changes' - yeah right). I used 800x600 to start with and play at 1680x1050.

I also did the 'ATi shader trick' (and I tested it earlier and I believe the shadows were there during the night) and updated my Realtek HD drivers as well. So all the result could be a mix of these three things. I'll try 1280x1024 and 1280x800 as fakes tomorrow to see if any of the two shadow problems are fixed. But now I sleep.

this tweak works for me...i have definately a better framerate.

but

with this tweak all the textures are loading really slow....if i stand in front of a house, i see some low-res textures, wait 5 seconds and the high (medium)-res textures will show up...and thats with every texture (streets, cars....etc)....i guess thats where my fps came from.

uhm no, its says get the performance from 800x600, with a higher resolution, trick the game to set all the scaling to 800x600, but still run a higher resolution.

hmm i dont know what settings to run it at i tried a billion lol

its running ok now and i can max it and it just loses fluidity so run about 3/4 up and seems ok its just a game ya have to tweak .. which is a pain cos it take the fun playing it makes ya pick at it and find faults instead of enjoying it like more of us should be able to confused.gif

Okay.. I can trick GTA to think I only have 600 or somthing ram, but the resolution is still 800*600??

Why isn't this changing? When I load up the game I can immediatle see that the resolution is 800*600 cuz it's VERY grainy.. Much like the shadows in this game..

In my commandline.txt I have:

-height 1152

-width 864

-availablevidmem 0.65

Whats wrong??

Hmm is 864x1152 a supported resolution at all?

Try 1280x800 or something.

well, that was useless, didn't do anything

let's just wait for a REAL solution by Rockstar

Yea, but I doubt R* will introduce new options in the menu, if you think so. You are dreaming, if they do. Then R* has the best support ever.

BEFORE ::

used to run on 800 600

textures/rendering low

distance levels : 14~

with 30avg fps @benchmark ~ + frequent slowdowns/fps drops + RESC10 out of vid mem after minutes ( sometimes hours ) lockups

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AFTER :::

now running :1280x1024

textures /rendering : medium

distance levels : 30~

fps are stable , no slowdowns , no RESC10 error (yet)

ill make a run with fraps and see what i get biggrin.gif

xp sp3

gtx 260 8xx mb

2gig ram

commandline :

-height 1024 -width 1280 -availablevidmem 0.875 -memrestrict 314572800 -novblank -minspecaudio -windowed
