Highwayman72
oddly I never got this sound fx bug until the update came out other day, only cure on mine is reloading the game and not using benchmarking before playing.....also noticed sometime the sound would switch to MONO? yet music was still stereo....lol
Karamanga
I overclocked my PC. Setting the system to default does not help - the Sound-Bug is still on. Disconecting the Internet-connection doesn't help (but improves the performance about 5-10 fps!) Come on RS -> we need your help!
Devils Dog
Hi Rockstar Toronto, I have sent a ticket to [email protected] sunday 14th - Question Reference #081213-000382 I got a problem with the sound in the Multiplayer it loss sound and the only way to get it back is to reboot my computer then play the game, this only happened after the patch applied. This happens even if I do Not do a benchmark it seems an intermittent problem. Also I had a problem with it crashing graphic related I think, I put info about that in my ticket. I did also attach dxdiag to the email I sent. Edited December 15, 2008 by Devils Dog

I imagine everyone here has put in a ticket with RockStar, I did and they said if it wasnt fixed in a week that they would re open it, funny part is my ticket with them already said the issue was solved when i had just received my confirmation# from [email protected] Its been a week and still no reply. Do you guys think thats because my ticket says "solved" when in reality all rockstar uk did is ask me for a dxdiag. Nice guys uh?
zmajser
ok i do not know if this is the same as your bug, i watched your video and i have similiar problem with added effect. i am certain however it is sound problem. when i start the game, like everyone 5-10mins is ok, but then: most of the sounds go off, some stay but they loop. its really weird. on top of that, FPS decreases every few secs, then runs smoothly, then again decreases and stutters, and round and around just goes on like that... plus, whenever i skip a cutscene, the sound from the cutscene keeps running, isolating all other sounds... its f*cked up, i got latest realtek drivers, 8,12 catalyst and the patch did the thing for the memory and performance and startup of the game, but this i cannot change whatever i tried. plus, i cant find that settings file in gtaiv folder... are they planning another patch soon? because this is unplayable... any advices? thx in advance guys

JeffRay
UPDATE: PROBLEM: Looping sound files causing other files to not be played. Bug was introduced by the 1.0.1 patch. SYS SPECS: (shouldn't run GTAIV but it does at 10 to 30fps) MB/AUDIO: nForce4 w/Nvidia nForce Audio (Realtek ALC850) CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ GPU: Nvidia 6800GS - 256M RAM: 3 GB RAM OS: XP Home, SP3 Things that haven't fixed the looping sound bug: 1. -fullspecaudio neither in a shortcut nor in commandline.txt 2. -minspecaudio ditto 3. -Resets or restarting of the sound hardware or PC 4. -Deleting SETTINGS.CFG 5. The AMD dual-core optimizer The problem is intermittent, happening at anytime from right at game load to several hours into playing. I've found no common trigger in game. On some launches it doesn't occur but I suspect it would if I continued to play longer. [i'm noticing a commonality in other posts because I too have the Realtek onboard ALC850 -> AN8-SLI] Can anybody verify? Any other ideas out there? Has anyone tried a complete uninstall/reinstall/repatch? (I've read that some have tried it but the sound bug is reintroduced on patching.) Heppu
First, hey to all. Don't know what sound my mobo P5K have, might be realtek and having sound prob after patch. Before patch, everything was runing good with no single problems. Now i can hear all the sounds when in the safe house but when outside, heh, can only hear the rain, weapon reload and radio when in car, nothing else:( Well, didn't test so long that knowing if there's more sound probs. What i know i did benchmark before this issue, so i will look that before grab my big old saviour from diesel and head to the R*'s slaughterhouse! Heh, needless to say im kiding here but this " fixing bugs with bugs" really starts piss me off for good. And heh, i have facet only one issue with IV, so there must be lot more angry people in here and there. Maybe ill install IV again without the patch but come on! Anyone you know what files i need to backup in order be able to continue from my saved game? Thanks
ppipp
I disabled the Physx acceleration with graphic card in the nvidia panel and the problem seems to be gone! EDIT : I just alt+escaped the game to post this and when I was back in, the loop for sounds were there. Damn, I thought I had found the solution. scarybandit
** UPDATE: Changing Textures in Graphics worked for me! Just been playing 3 hours no worries ** ***UPDATE 2: 24 hours later problem back... permanently.*** Yeah, before patch no sound issues, after patch - all the problems listed above regarding looping, out of context mission dialogue when I skip scenes, and random silencing of certain effects eg: radio, pedestrian voices, weapon fire, etc. It always results in a hard freeze. I haven't used the benchmark except when I first installed - I set the graphics lower than it recommends for speed : ). Game was crashing intermittently before the patch of course (2-3 hours without a crash was excellent), but I was just becoming resigned to the bugs I was used to when this new problem came along to kill my gameplay completely. Yay. Should note the PC I'm using is just under CPU minimum specs: Athlon 64 x2 4200+ @2200Mhz, 2GHz RAM, Nvidia 8500 GT, Audigy SB Live! 24 soundcard* (low specs I know but it ran the game before the patch on low settings at least). The machine was scrubbed clean before installing GTA IV - defragged, registry cleaned, hard drive practically emptied - 190 GB of free space now. I'm running the game on XP and like everyone else have the latest drivers and software upgrades imaginable (I have been through every list of checks I can find on the web) just to have gotten to the stage that I can play this game through to Three Leaf Clover at end of Chapter Three, (which I failed 3 times last night -some clumsy grenade throwing I'm afraid) before this patch came out and had me permanently stuck on this mission this morning : D. Just mentioned this because it is not a hardware issue for me anyway. I love the GTA series, I admire what R* has contributed to game culture, and I am enjoying this game, but it has to be said that this is also the worst gaming experience of my life. Oh well, I guess we wait for the next patch again... in the words of Catullus: "Odi et Amo." *Yes, onboard audio is disabled. ** UPDATE: Changing Textures in Graphics worked for me! Just been playing 3 hours no worries **] ***UPDATE 2: 24 hours later problem back... permanently.*** Edited December 22, 2008 by scarybandit
Karamanga
changing the textures does not help -> on my system. but reducing the resolution to 800x600 kills the bug. but who wants to play in 800x600?!?
eduardomaio
I have an Audigy 2 EX and I'm having the same problems. I've changed the output from Stereo to Headphones and got sound, but on the next day the bug was back. I've tried now deleting the settings.cfg and sounds are back again, let's see if it keeps this way when I quit the game and start it again. I've tried lots of stuff, even with EAX on and off. It's very arbitrary. I'm also having problems with some of my achievements not beeing saved, even with the latest GFWL update, but that's another issue. johncook
Ah - god to see some Staff vom RS.I posted this in another thread: At first: i am from germany -> so my english is not the best. I got serious Sound-Problems after installing the patch. There wasn't any Sound-Problems without the Patch. I am playing with following settings: Resolution: 1280x768 Textures: low Render: middle View: 20 Details: 12 Traffic: 3 Shadows: 0 The Problem: The first few minutes everything is ok - the game runs without any problems (not smothly, but ok). That means it runs on my PC with 18-25 fps (no Sound-Problems). Then, after 5 min. (sometimes more...) the sound becomes crazy. The sound begins to loop and hold on like a loud noise. HERE YOU CAn WATCH/HERE, WHAT I MEAN: https://tv.rockstargames.com/videos/view/id/FF60E3D9D5BD26F9 I have already checked my Sound-Drivers (Realtek onboard ALC850 -> A8N-SLI). My Version is 6.0.1.6293 from 16. Sept. 2008. Vista says, that this one would be the latest version. Never the less I also installed the new HD-Sound-Driver "Vista_R210" from 02. Dez. 2008 -> without any success. I also have new Video-Card-Drivers (nvidia beta 180.84 rev.3). I am using Kaspersky Version 8.0.0.357. Deactivating the security-software does not help (improve fps) or solve the sound-problem. Perhaps this is a memory-overflow-problem. My PC has got "only" 2GB Ram. My Vista needs 800MB. So there is only 1,2 GB left for GTA. But why does it work fine without the patch?!? I don't use a gamepad. my PC-System: - CPU: AMD Opteron 185 2x2,6Ghz. @ 2,9Ghz. - RAM: 2x 1024MB Corsair DDR400 - Mainboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium - Grafikkarte: XFX 7900GTX 512MB - Soundchip: Realtek ALC850 (onboard) - Windows Vista32 inkl. SP1 + NetFrame 3.5 + nvidia-Treiber 180.84 rev.3 I've deleted the setings.cfg -> without any result. I've also reinstalled every Driver -> without any result. Changing the resolution / textures did not help. And yes - I restarted the game after changing the settings and i also reboot my system in the last days. Actually i reinstalled GTA and i am looking forward, what will hapen. I will report - so wish me luck i have your same problem...i'm italian and I'm becoming crazy....help!!!!! zmajser
im officially out of ideas... i even tried deleting sound drivers from realtek and leaving windows ones on, nothing, zip, nada... the textures dont help either, lowered everything that could possible be lowered, even started gta in safe mode, still the same... im really frustrated... i got this game in november, 2 weeks before it was even in retail stores. one month straight now i cant play it. its killing me, seriously. i cannot understand how can a company such as rockstars can be so irresponsible towards not only its product but its consumers. they have a big minus in my book. and off course, god only knows when the next patch will be out... honestly, it would have been better to have waited for this game until january 2009, and have a GOOD PROPPER release, than have this sh*t... sure, my ass 1% of ppl will experience problems, i really really wonder where they get their feedback from. what are we supposed to have? pentagon and NSA machines to run this game without problems? common... i have a great laptop, payed 1600 euros for it, played assassins creed on max with it, no problems. even GTA IV if i put everything on high i get fair 20fps until the sound bug kicks in. f*cking sound bug. i suggest we all stop experimenting, because the only thing we are going to do is ruin our precious machines i've booted, reinstalled, defragmented and cleaned up so much, that its not normal anymore. defragmentation is 0% with GTA on high performance (use disktrix ultimatedefrag to defrag guys, put gta folder for high performance and u get 50-80% increase in FPS - for those who didnt know) f*ck this, i am thinking of reinstalling the game without patch... anyone knows any rumors about the new patch? Karamanga
i reported some posts earlier, that it might be able to kill the bug by reducing the resolution (to 800x600). unfortuanately i must resign. The bug cant be killed by this - it only take longer till the bug effects. I think is just takes longer till the memory is full. So the problem is still the same -> a memory-leak and a patch that forced this problem in a wrong way. Heppu
Last night i decide to give IV another chance and try to solve that sound issue. Well, at first it claim i have image of IV. Got this when first time try to launch IV. Back then i disable all options from daemon and uncheck "launch at windows start" or something and then boot. Now only daemon uninstall cure that prob. Fire up GTA, decide to not run benchmark first as i read it can cause sound issues. happy, happy, happy, all probs gone.... for now at least. Did order some new parts but it run almost well even now. some statistics: Average FPS: 40.28 Duration: 37.14 sec CPU Usage: 91% System memory usage: 78% Video memory usage: 96% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1600 x 1200 (85 Hz) Texture Quality: High Render Quality: Very High View Distance: 11 Detail Distance: 31 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra Video Driver version: 180.48 Audio Adapter: SoundMAX HD Audio Intel® Core2 CPU 6420 @ 2.7GHz 2gb [email protected] Last weekend my IV was on 13 hours and after that the benchmark FPS was 31. seeah when facing new Rocksh*t. thanks
x_orange90_x
i have soundmax onboard..... , So maybe that is the common ground for those of you still experiencing the glitch. i dont have realtek and have no more glitch and it seems you guys with the realtek audio are, maybe it could be a realtek thing....... i too have Soundmax onboard.. SoundMAX Digital Audio. i dont think its a soundcard issues really, i think in a way its still connected to the memory leak. think about it, if the game is hogging up all your ram for god knows what, what ram is left to process audio? and after my audio loops and stops, my game crashes. sounds connected to me, at least maybe for my problem, but i think it still has much to do with the memory leak/s. infact, i believe about 90% of the problems everyone is having is still memory issues within the game, and not bad memory. eduardomaio
I think it's a memory leak too. Managed to get sound again, but I can't play for more then 1 hour or the sound will be corrupted again. Every 60 minutes I have to quit the game and start again. JeffRay
Thanks x_orange90_x, you may be right this may end up being a memory leak issue... However, after my game starts looping sounds I can leave it run for hours and it doesn't seem to crash nor slow down. The sounds don't ever stop looping. Perhaps they've fixed the memory leak on some chipsets.
