well, what it does is swap nvidia optimized shaders for ati optimized shaders, so if anything, it should make things worse on nvidia cards. maybe the shaders for ati cards are a little less complex or something, hence the improvement in fps for some, but I wouldn't advise doing that anyway. as for it having to do with DX10 shaders, I highly doubt it: RAGE is a DX9 engine (or 9.1 or whatnot). atidx10 probably stands for ATI DX10 level cards, not DX10 shaders.

nice find, tho. smile.gif

I lost 5fps with this tweak.

Logicaly, you use an M graphics, this is not enought to handle textures, and ATI dont have mobile graphics suported in this game, and, have ATI mobile with DX10.1 ,i think not.

Did nothing here.

XP SP3

2048 MB DDRII

AMD X2 6400+

8800 GTS 320

go to www.lwgame.net and install DX10 for XP, and you see the difference.

Its possible to remove, using an changer on DX10 secion on this site.

I have used this for much time, and much games like, assasins, crysis, london and others run DX10 on XP.

I wonder what you have to do with an Ati card.

Try to change for NV8, swap folders, and see if this improve your performance or quality, for me, the performance is more smother, and quality is much better. I love ATI, im think to buy HD4850 1 GB, or other 8800GTS640 for SLI.

bye

I tried it, admittedly I have an ATi card and this is aimed more at Nvidia cards, but it made my game run slower.

Thank you, ive tried creating empty shaders and using them as the shadow shaders to get rid of shadows, but that didnt work. I tried this and im fking happily amazing, i got like a +7 FPS increase!,

Instead of the low 20s and teens im getting high 20s and low 30s in outside gameplay in big police fights.

Difference is, that the before one was with CPU overclocked to 2.2Ghz.. after was only overclocked to 2.1Ghz.. so for dropping 0.1 Ghz on a single core cpu and getting the same fps seems to have done something.. and in game it does seem slightly smoother when looking about.. however, I still can't play past 15 mins before textures start disapperaing and the mem leak locks the game up. Progress tho.

I hope you people realise that the fps you get with the benchmark tool can differ from test to test. I can get 32 fps average in a test and when i do the test again i can get 30 fps average, see where i'm going 2 with this? You people all are way to fixed on numbers.

For those of you saying that this is working for please name your graphics card, driver version and what it has improved so it may help other people. Thanks.

bidji, the only one here in this 3 pages thread with his brain activated smile.gif

forget it folks, those files are precompiled shaders not textures - mathematical calculations for nice per-pixel-effects like light blooming, shadows, reflections and so on. different gfx cards have different shader capabilities. even cards with the same shader model perform and behave different when using the same calculation. game developers create different shaders files for supported gfx card families to maximise performance and quality and avoid bugged or badly performing shader functions. so using shaders for ati's hdxxxx series of cards on a nvidia cards can lead to:

- a reduced number of gfx effects (effect is implemented in a way the nvidia is not able to calculate)

- wrong calculations leading to graphic glitches or even game crashes

- worse performance because effects are not calculated the most efficient way

check hlsl for details.

Another TOTALLY PLACEBO TRICK. Thanks for having made me lose other time.

Pretty sure nobody made you try it, chief.

It didn't really make a difference to me. Made me lost all my audio except the music though...

This is blatently BS. There are diffrent shader versions for diffrent GPU groups, because they are optimized for those GPU groups. If you start swapping them around, the optimization is void. I have a BFG 8800GTS 640MB OC'ed to 610mhz core, and it did nothing other than lower my fps by 3.

Well, what can I say, the beaner actually found something here. This did fix a few issues I had. The stuttering I get while driving around has been greatly reduced. Loading times are now much faster. And it does run alot smoother.

I believe that this only helps you if you have vista, DirectX10, and an Nvidia card.

For the rest of you, I dont think it will do much.
