Where's this great memory saving optimization? What have you developed with c++? The patch DOES do something... now just wait for the other one, and for gpu manu's to fix r* piss poor coding for them via hotfix patches. I've met many puported C++ developers in my time, some were pretty good, and some didn't understand pointers, and some did but shat themselves when asked exactly what happens at the assembler level. Did it perhaps occur to you that the memory optimizations referred to the usage of the video card memory? Cracking open task manager will tell you how much regular memory has been allocated by the OS, not how much it's allocated from the graphics card. PhysX demos are all well and good, regardless of whether you just copied a tutorial out or not, what actually matters is you creating something unique that's interesting... i.e. something that actually does something rather than just demos a few features of a particular API... put all the components together and make a short video or game, whatever. E6750 2.66 GHz, 8800gtx, 3.3gb-1066mhz) and they are just havin great amount of fun in Vent, then i don't want a f*ckin refund i want a FIX! I run a Geforce GTX 280 and an Intel 45nm dual-core Xeon e3130. My windows XP system is clean, defragmented, and there are no startup applications running. The frame rate in this game is a total disaster. Sometimes I am overlooking a busy street with 20 cars, a bridge across a wide river, and the entire skyline of Algonquin and I get 40-50fps. Then I'll turn around and stare at a wall and suddenly get 22fps. Then I'll drive down an empty street with only a few cars and get 16fps! The game's automatic graphics settings run about the same as when I max the game out. There doesn't seem to be any correlation between settings and performance. GTA 4 is completely unplayable. My system is leaps and bounds more powerful than Rockstar's "recommended" system. After being a faithful GTA fan since 1998, I cannot express how strongly disappointed I am with this release. You also have to realize that not everybody is going to have the same outcome with the patch or the entire game alone! Yes, it was for a competition. Now im making a game (Details of which i will not release), using Ogre, PhysxSDK and OpenAL, in c++ of course. Anyway you say that "what actually matters is you creating something unique that's interesting", But im a C++ DEVELOPER, not a GAME DESIGNER. I prefer theory over practical, And these competitions are a good way to learn and keep motivated. @Others, Why is it so hard to believe that im a C++ Developer? Just because you're not?
