Well i have to be honest i have never had any problem at all smile.gif very lucky i suppose the graphics are beautifull and runs smooth as hell, and online runs great aswell for me. And after the patch i have a few extra fps. The funny thing is i dont have a super powered gaming machine like some of you lol.

I have amd 64 dual core 4600+ x2, 2 gigs of ram, windows xp, Nvidia geforce 9800 GT 512 MB GDDR3 which i installed a few days ago to play the game smile.gif It only cost me £80 pre owned from pc world reduced in price. And i have it on High texture high render 10 view distance, 20 detail distance, and vechile density set to 65, and no shadows.

And it runs so good, i am lucky i guess but i have nothing to moan about. I feel sorry for all of you that cant play it as it is one hell of a game the city is alive and amazing place to play in, and online is awesome. Especially in free roam mode.

Great game well done rockstar it is great game. But i do understand people's anger with the problem on these forums and i hope thay sort it out for you all. Well that is it for me i am off to play some more gta i am hooked on it smile.gif

I'm the same my machine was good 12 months ago but nowadays its slightly dated

2.4Ghz Dual Core

2GB DDR2 RAM

Geforce 8800GTS 512MB

The game ran OK before the patch but now its totally playable and smooth as hell

Draw Distance is like 45

Detail Distance is 45

Car Density is 100

Shadows are off

It gets slowed down when its raining and the water particle effects other than that it runs incredibly smooth.

the game is near perfect for me except the frame rate jumping round.

i installed the patch with no problems at all, its fixed the shadows to a point (there better but not perfect) apart from that i dont see any other visible changes

i played it for the longest time today 7 hours straight, i had 1 crash, i point on the map where the graphics glitched and the frame rates kept slowing but apart from that on the whole the game was fine and i had fun playing it

Lemme guess, R* tested this patch on numerous machines and it worked like a charm and fixed everything.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! dozingoff.gif

Wake up people. Theyre doing it on purpose because they hate the PC.

They want PC gamers to either not want another GTA for the PC,

or trying to get you to go buy a XBox where the game works.

No way am i believing a company with as much experience as R* in porting to PC accidentally released a totally botched game and cannot make a patch to fix it.

Sorry, cant get myself to believe that.

lmfao.

Well, I wouldnt moan if any game worked on that rig.

I guess BF2 would run fairly well on that though, which would suit me just fine smile.gif

NO!!! angry.gif

Well the graphics are a bit better also I have gained a 5-9 FPS boost on the benchmark, but.......

Fully updated drivers. Chipset, videocard, soundcard, etc....

And the greatest patch ever released!!! sarcasm.gif

Game settings Texture - Medium

Rendering - Very High

My graphic memory usage is 520/862 which is still green. Pffft. Make SLI work!!! angry.gif

And all the other settings are set to the middle.

My rig specs are... (No overclocking)

MS Vista Home Premium (32bit) SP1

Intel C2D E8600 (3.33GHZ)

eVGA 680i SLI Mainboard

8 gigs of DDR2 800mhz

2x eVGA 260 SLI (SLI doesn't work in game yet) sarcasm.gif (180.48) ( In now - 180.84 v3)

1x eVGA 9500GT (Physx Card)

HTOmega Claro (soundcard)

WD Velociraptor 300GB (10K RPM)

Now every game I throw at it runs like a dream (CODWaW, Far Cry2, Fallout 3, RA3, Spore, NFSU)

But this next great port of GTA runs like crap and thats if it runs with out locking up every 5mins. Some times I can CRTL-ALT-DEL out or I have to hard reboot.

I have experimented with a few drivers for my graphics card and the version that R* and Nvidia have "made" to run GTA4 is the driver that is causing the lockups. I have rolled back to 180.48 WHQL which runs the game with almost no lockups but 180.84 locks up the game all the time. Now the benchmark runs, but once out of the safehouse a few steps then devil.gif the lock up!!! I will be rolling back my drivers again to 180.48 and hope for the best. Also hope this may have helped anyone with Nvidia setups.

Shame on you Rockstar. I just downloaded the patch, and now I cannot even connect to the Social Club to test if it even made a difference!

Previously (before patch) I was getting BSOD and RESC10 errors.

Should have stuck to RenderWare instead of making your own engine.

EDIT: There is a 'competition' today. Play online against R* employees. And I can't even get into the game angry.gif

Starting in Offline mode means I don't have access to my savegame, which is server-side for some stupid reason.

Im returning this game, sick to the stomach with all the problems.

My patience has run out and the patch fixed nothing for me, like for others it just introduced new bugs GRR.

Now my Saitek 2500 pad (works in everything but this game!) does not work, with or without the hack !!, Niko just stares up all the time.

Framerate is appaling after 15-20 mins of gameplay making it unplayable.

Without the patch i can not even login to Windows Live now!!! suicidal.gif

(rig = Geforce 9800 gtx, AMD Phenom 9850 2.5ghz QUAD, 2 gig 1066mhz crucial ram)

Every other pc game i own works extremely well, smooth, fast, full framerate, But this game, this game is a JOKE! Last time i`ll ever bother to buy or play Rockstars games.

I'll be doing the same tomorrow. It's the last chance for me to return it, and the events of the last few days have done nothing to persuade me to keep it in the hope it'll get fixed. I honestly don't see how this game is going to magically start working properly, at least not within the next six months.

The patch has worked for me in the sense that I can now play the game without it crashing right at the first cutscene. My computer won't install thecutscenes.rpf sound file so unfortunately all the cutscene speech is missing but for now I'll tolerate that and play with the subtitles on. But it did get the game working!

Graphically a shade better, stutters after a couple of hours. Yet to try it with my machine OC'd back to how it was before I had to ease my timings to play the game. Bowling is slightly better, Pool is still a nightmare and I had to unplug my Saitek controller to stop the camera spinning around.

Yeah same here, i was really holding out hope as well, this patch is just like the final kick in the teeth for me.

When you get to the point were you need a patch to fix the patch then you know its time for a refund is all i can say, well actually i could say alot more in more viscious words but since ive cleaned my hands of this mess i`ll behave.

Ive advised all my friends to wait it out till it becomes a budget release if they want it, and after showing them the performance of this game they all quite agree.

Good work Rockstar, first you alienate all your paying customers with a draconian protection system that from what i can see did not stop the pirates for very long at all, then you put your customers through hell with half arsed shoddy coding so they can not even enjoy the damn game. sneaky2.gif

Does Rockstar even have beta testers ? ( other than the general public that is ) because i can not see how they missed so many problems with such common hardware.

What a way to kill your reputation.

You guys in the EU are lucky that you actually can return it. In the States the only way most of the big box stores will take back an opened software title is for an exchange of the same one, so the majority of us over here are stuck with it and can only hope they get it fixed sooner than later.

That is indeed frustrating, they must think were idiots, selling us a game thats broken out of the box and expecting us to be happy to wait for them confused.gif

And it seems messed up that there would be a problem returning a game, when purchasing a item if the goods in question are not of merchantable quality, you should by rights be able to attain a refund.

If it does not do what it says it should do on the box, it should be quite acceptable to have your money back.

I know for starters that their minimum specs for the game are completely wrong, thats false advertising right there to begin with, even more so when you find the reccomended specs can not even run the game acceptably either mercie_blink.gif

This whole thing is a nightmare... And it makes me extremely angry angry.gif

Law Encyclopedia

This entry contains information applicable to United States law only.

Salable; of quality and type ordinarily acceptable among vendors and buyers.

An item is deemed merchantable if it is reasonably fit for the ordinary purposes for which such products are manufactured and sold. For example, soap is merchantable if it cleans. In general, a seller or manufacturer is required by law to make products of merchantable quality. In the event that the items do not meet with the proper standards, a suit can be brought against the seller or manufacturer by anyone who is injured as a result.

The saddest thing about this is, if we had an xbox 360 emulator and played the game on our computer, well it would look better and run even faster! Rockstar you screwed up! BIG TIME! I'm changing my game for Left 4 DEAD!

It's hard to say for sure really.

I installed the latest beta driver for the Nvidia card and noticed a nice boost to smoothness and framerate. I didn't really notice much of a change in terms of that after I installed the patch.

So the only thing I was hoping for was the fix to bowling which I believed was mentioned in the patch, but it doesn't change anything.

I still get gutterballs all the time, which makes me not want to go bowling.

Another thing I've noticed that might (hopefully) will be fixed in the next patch is the telephone bug.

If I am on the phone talking to someone and get hit by a car for example. the phone conversation gets cut, then all the radiostations in the vehicles stop playing. If I then get another phonecall I can't hear anything they are saying or making any choices

Also in my latest game I had a out of memory error between two autosaves, so the game crashed for me. That is not something I have had happen to me before. I've had some crashes but they have been hard crashes (The type that boots your system)

Seems Amazon only except refunds on unopened items, now how can someone find out if a game does not work without opening the box?.

If anyone here knows how please drop a comment.

Isnt it it nice to feel robbed? angry.gif

Guess that will teach me to be a paying customer eh

Ok, I voted for SOME changes. Well, actually only 1 thing really noticable to me: It finally saves my settings! ^^

Except for that, a minor FPS gain and decreased memory usage of my video card. (it decreases with 2%. But strange thing is: it only decreases when I INCREASE my settings... mercie_blink.gif )

My specs:

CPU: AMD 64 X2 5200+

hey, its a future proof game ( as R* said) , guys, so you will be able to offer it to your grandson / grand daughter as a Christmas present, until then, keep it safe somewhere, or it will ruin your computer / your mental health / wallet because of unnecessary upgrades.

its not a "game for windows" its a game for the future...after the 101 patch is out.

I have noticed 3/4 more fps maybe (fps now goes from 29fps laggy times to 45fps or more normally) but i got few issues playing:

Water reflections are jumping, water mesh its wrong and sometimes stretches on sides, it is not displayed correctly from a medium distance. Mesh make boats be slower.

Some roads changes the mesh to a low one in the middle of the run.

Here is a video of what i had to suffer after the update... -_-

http://www.se32.com/gtaerrors_768K_Stream.wmv

Note: video have like 15/20fps less than normally because of fraps.

I tried to delete my previous config, i have latest nvidia beta drivers (the ones provided to play gta4)

I hadnt this kind of troubles before the patch...

Voted: Yes! The game is finally playable.

This vote doesn't mean the game is even near perfect. I've crashed a few times. I have stuttering and points where the FPS drops into single digits. However, before the patch I was crashing after the R* logo splash screen at startup. I couldn't play the game for over a week. So the patch did fix things and finally make the game "playable" for me.

I have a considerably nice system and I still find it hard to believe that I can only set the game on medium, 1600x1050 with a 23/35/30/4 setting to keep the frames playable (24-32 range). By comparison, I can set Fallout 3 to it's max at 1900x1200 and play at 35-40. I know, two different games, two different engines, but I'm hoping a few future patches and an Nvidia driver update will beef up the FPS in GTA4 another 10 to 15%
