I wanted to vote "Made it worse" but there wasn't an option so I went with "There is no Hope"

FACT: The patch RAISED the system requirements to export a video from the editor.

OK, I am officially done with this game. I know Rockstar won't care or even read this... but they have simply gone too far with this crap. I tried to be patient, I tried to be hopeful, I put my faith in them that they would hold true to their word and fix the game... When all they have done is make it worse.

The new patch (if you can call it a patch as it took about 5 seconds to download and 10 seconds to install) has fixed nothing and added about 4 or 5 new problems.

Still cannot map my side buttons on my standard mouse.

I now have a controller enabled to use in the game (Saitek P2600) except that now when I load the game all the camera does is circle anticlockwise around Niko. No it's not calibration as that has been checked, rechecked and checked again, system has been rebooted, controller has been unplugged from the system and yet this problem still happens and makes the game IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY

Of course, getting the game to load now has been made 50 times harder... For some reason if I am signed into RSC it tells me I have a backup disc in the drive and I should put in the original... WTF!!! I have a retail copy, I spent my hard earned money of this and your pathetic copy protection software is telling me I'm a f*cking pirate. It's nothing to do with any emulated drives because I don't have any when I try to play this game.

If I log out of RSC then it's a 50/50 chance that I can even load the game... and when it does decide that my legit copy is good enough to let me play... I CAN'T because of the spinning camera.

I loved all the previous GTA games, right back to the very first one... Had it on PC and playstation, GTA3 was brilliant, GTA-VC surpassed that and GTA-SA literally blew me away with it's depth and playability... GTA4 on the other hand has been one massive screw up after another. You have made a game that is so badly ported it is unplayable, you have tried to blame the community for many issues, trying to say that it's users fault for using hacked drivers and stuff when it clearly isn't. You promised to fix issues and failed. You introduce new problems whilst attempting to fix unimportant bugs and refuse to comment on or fix the important ones. This game is not designed for future hardware... that statement is a LIE PLAIN AND SIMPLE. You Rockstar are LIARS, you have FAILED to produce a game that is fit for market. This is evident by Steam offering refunds, German stores offering refunds and as the momentum and news of this collosal failure of a game grows... I have no doubt that more countries and stores will begin offering refunds to disgruntled customers.

You have done far more damage to your good name and reputation by releasing a shoddy and unfinished game. I have personally ensured that an entire gaming community I belong to is fully aware of this and none of them are now going to buy the game. So not only have you lost my sale as it's going back for a refund under the UK's sale and supply of goods act... where an item must be fit for the purpose sold (and this clearly isn't)... But you have lost the potential sales of another 400 or so people. OK, so that might be nothing to you but at least these people can be safe in the knowledge they have not had to face the disappointment and frustration that I have these last 2 weeks.

I said before that I would never buy another Rockstar game with securom or anything like it... I am updating that to ANY rockstar game ever released from now on... Just like I refuse to buy any game by EA due to their shoddy products and treatment of consumers.

So please be happy with your current boost to your finances, because it's short lived and as more and more people get sick and tired of you and this game.. your profits will fall and you will only have yourself to blame.

Goodbye Rockstar, it was fun whilst it lasted... But everything comes to an end and you have killed GTA off for the PC, but them perhaps that was your intention all along.

I fixed the backup disk issue by opening and closing my cd drive.

Worse for me, as it used to run fine apart from a crash every 2-3 hours; now it has crashed twice after 5 minutes of gameplay.

Having had much difficulty working around the initial video glitches, I had hoped the nVidia driver and Rockstar patch would smooth things some, although I had finally made it playable just before getting the patch. After the patch the video works fine without having to monkey around with the card and launch settings but....

..my audio seems hosed. At a seemingly random point during play sounds will not "let go" of the sound card and will then loop constantly, continued play has the looping sounds filling all of the cards channels until new sounds can't be played. I tried lowering the hardware acceleration on the sound card but to no avail. I'm wondering how many others are having sound issues after the patch.

I recognize that my specs shouldn't even run the game, but amazingly it does at perhaps 10-30fps (more 10 than 30).

CPU: AMD 64 X2 3800+

The only problems I had before the patch were :

1 - Atrocious performance

2 - Slow texture re-draw

3 - Lack of controller support

Since applying the "patch", I now have :

1 - Atrocious performance

2 - Slow texture re-draw

3 - Lack of controller support

4 - Camera constantly spinning around Nico

5 - Flashing interface buttons

6 - Occasionally non-responsive keyboard input

7 - No sound at all other than music, and GUI bleeps and clicks

This is intolerable.

I have (I think) 3 days to return the game, and that's most likely what I will be doing, and reluctantly at that. I really wanted to play and enjoy this game, and what little I've managed to see looked really promising, but this just isn't on.

(EDITED to show the effects the "new controller configuration" part of the patch has had on the rest of the game. Yep, it really does affect the UI buttons... since they're also controllable by the main game input device).

Incidentally, why is it called a "Title Update"? Have the marketing department completely usurped the entire programming staff at R* Toronto?

...and why does it say in the patch, er.. sorry, Title Update blurb; "Read the included instructions"? There are no instructions!!! Can they possibly fck this up any more?

Where's the option for "the game worked fine until i installed the patch - now i am constantly looking up" ?????

Patch now makes my guy walk constantly forward and left, and looks at the ceiling all the time. Control symbols now look like Xbox buttons.

Yes i've read the "uninstall all your HID things" thread - why the hell should i uninstall them?

CPU: AMD2 5600+ 2.8ghz

GPU: Latest nvidia drivers on a Geforce 8800GTS 256mb

RAM: 4gig

OS: Vista 64 SP1

Saitek gamers keyboard is probably what's causing the conflict. Maybe i can play the game using telepathy...

*EDIT* i can play the game as long as the keyboard is unplugged when i start the game up! Then plug it back in once it's running.

And yes, i now seem to have major FPS inprovements!!

This PC release and support is a joke.. it's absolutely despicable. Shame on a supposed AAA Studio like Rockstar for releasing such a garbage product.

The patch made a great deal of difference for me. Before I was getting like 2fps if it wasn't frozen, but now I get 30 fps most of the time and very little freezing other then at a mission I had last night it got stuck on the loading screen. Before I had to use cachebooster just so textures would show up but now I don't need it. I give this patch a 8.5 out of 10, could be better but now it is playable.

I managed to play for about an hour last night without crashing. I still have more frequent crashing than before though (just crashes to desktop, no error, nothing in Even Viewer).

I have not been able to play since the patch, I can't remap my controller, I'm not using the keys and mouse because it's my preference to use my gamepad, I'm quite annoyed about the whole thing.

You're kidding, right?

Your system isn't even remotely up to spec to run this game! Not one aspect of it fulfils even the most basic requirements. Well, XP SP3 does, but that's it.

Please tell me you're kidding.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.40GHz

GPU: eVGA NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+ @ 734MHz clock speed (stock)

Ram: 3GB

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

It has changed somethings to me. Now, the graphic settings will be saved, my character or multi will be also saved, my controllers are working but, there is still no control config sad.gif

Also, why i cannot change my textures to High? it stucks at Medium...

Game is unplayable after patch because of the locked key issue and the inability to change controller mappings. Playing with only keyboard and mouse is not an option for me. Specs in sig.

I'll have to test this more; I tried it for a little while earlier, and while it did not crash, the game runs noticeably worse in windowed mode (didn't have Fraps running), there were loads of slowdowns etc. Probably a sideeffect of Vista (Aero)...
