OK, I am officially done with this game. I know Rockstar won't care or even read this... but they have simply gone too far with this crap. I tried to be patient, I tried to be hopeful, I put my faith in them that they would hold true to their word and fix the game... When all they have done is make it worse.

 

The new patch (if you can call it a patch as it took about 5 seconds to download and 10 seconds to install) has fixed nothing and added about 4 or 5 new problems.

 

Still cannot map my side buttons on my standard mouse.

 

I now have a controller enabled to use in the game (Saitek P2600) except that now when I load the game all the camera does is circle anticlockwise around Niko. No it's not calibration as that has been checked, rechecked and checked again, system has been rebooted, controller has been unplugged from the system and yet this problem still happens and makes the game IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY

 

Of course, getting the game to load now has been made 50 times harder... For some reason if I am signed into RSC it tells me I have a backup disc in the drive and I should put in the original... WTF!!! I have a retail copy, I spent my hard earned money of this and your pathetic copy protection software is telling me I'm a f*cking pirate. It's nothing to do with any emulated drives because I don't have any when I try to play this game.

 

If I log out of RSC then it's a 50/50 chance that I can even load the game... and when it does decide that my legit copy is good enough to let me play... I CAN'T because of the spinning camera.

 

I loved all the previous GTA games, right back to the very first one... Had it on PC and playstation, GTA3 was brilliant, GTA-VC surpassed that and GTA-SA literally blew me away with it's depth and playability... GTA4 on the other hand has been one massive screw up after another. You have made a game that is so badly ported it is unplayable, you have tried to blame the community for many issues, trying to say that it's users fault for using hacked drivers and stuff when it clearly isn't. You promised to fix issues and failed. You introduce new problems whilst attempting to fix unimportant bugs and refuse to comment on or fix the important ones. This game is not designed for future hardware... that statement is a LIE PLAIN AND SIMPLE. You Rockstar are LIARS, you have FAILED to produce a game that is fit for market. This is evident by Steam offering refunds, German stores offering refunds and as the momentum and news of this collosal failure of a game grows... I have no doubt that more countries and stores will begin offering refunds to disgruntled customers.

 

You have done far more damage to your good name and reputation by releasing a shoddy and unfinished game. I have personally ensured that an entire gaming community I belong to is fully aware of this and none of them are now going to buy the game. So not only have you lost my sale as it's going back for a refund under the UK's sale and supply of goods act... where an item must be fit for the purpose sold (and this clearly isn't)... But you have lost the potential sales of another 400 or so people. OK, so that might be nothing to you but at least these people can be safe in the knowledge they have not had to face the disappointment and frustration that I have these last 2 weeks.

 

I said before that I would never buy another Rockstar game with securom or anything like it... I am updating that to ANY rockstar game ever released from now on... Just like I refuse to buy any game by EA due to their shoddy products and treatment of consumers.

 

So please be happy with your current boost to your finances, because it's short lived and as more and more people get sick and tired of you and this game.. your profits will fall and you will only have yourself to blame.

 

Goodbye Rockstar, it was fun whilst it lasted... But everything comes to an end and you have killed GTA off for the PC, but them perhaps that was your intention all along.

actually the more I do to improve things the worst it becomes

 

here's list of probs I've encountered with gta4 since I've tried to play it.

I was pretty confident about buying the game as soon as i could and ask questions later since my cpu matched all requirements announced at the game release.

- AMD athlon 64x2 Dual Core 6000+

- geforce 96000gt

- 2 go memory (400mhz)

- O.S. Windows XP sp3

- geforce winxp 32b drivers 176. to 180.46 and 180.84

game bought on steam btw.

 

1 ) no textures for starters

after net search 2 choices

- change drivers

- install cacheboost

- set view distance under 5

 

tried 2nd and 3rd choices and textures appeard, ugly ones, but being able to just see walls and road felt like heaven.

 

2) Not being able to play more than 20 mins

 

Have been able to play 30mins correctly with graphics remembering me the good ol' time where I was playing midtown madness

before fps drop to 5 at best

 

3) New drivers comes into play

 

I carefully uninstal my drivers with driver sweeper

and go to latest official nvidia geforce drivers. 180.48

 

now i can play 15 mins right and decreasingly loose fps back to an unplaying rate of 5 or less fps

 

I search for more and I find a forum page saying stuff like :

 

"Here try these drivers nvidia has work very hard with rockstar to deliver some drivers who will especially fit gta4 and yet in two days since everyone is complaining here's a piece of solution for your probs ."

 

Yaaay it's ve been made ESPECIALLY to FIT GTA4 great ! let's have it

so I go for drivers 180.84

 

No GOOD change except graphics a bit prettier and heads who doesn't go invisible on some cinematics.

 

playable rate of frames during 5 minutes when i'm on foot, less if I get into a car.

 

4) Finally I Give you....... theeee joke errr.. "Patch" ! :

 

just patched the game none of my problems solved.

 

so since I've tried every way I knew to solve wot's wrong on my side making I can't play that game, It's time for me to start whining a bit or at least list my problems so I can have either, devs to start having a clue of what is wrong with their work, and everyone to tell me if I'm missing something to finally ENJOY this game.

 

 

- Game is as laggy (when it starts lagging) ingame as in menus

- graphics settings changes i make before starting the game ain't remembered when I start it later

- lowering resolution and quality of graphics and such didn't had any impact on the time i could play nice.

- GTA4.exe Goes to 800 Mo of my UC when i'm starting being in trouble ( is that normal ? ) the game is unplayable but I can easily "alt+tab" or "ctrl+alt+sup" with that UC occupation, i'm trying to say the game only seems to be in trouble, my system stays sharp and stable.

It didn't help at all. At least the major bug did not go away. My shadows look still kind of bad but I don't mind, it's the cripling performance decrease after playing a while that ruins my gaming experience. Before that I'm all good.

i mean it can't be the problem with my PC because i can play Crysis,Prince of Persia(the one that was recently released),CoD4 and CoD5 without any problems...i tried Clearmem and Cacheboost but nothing worked

Only difference i have felt was, that as long as my controler (a Logitech G25 steering wheel) the camera keeps rotating around Nico. Also in the menu it keeps showing controler buttons like "(A)" etc instead of "[ENTER]" in the lower right. So i unplugged the controler and restarted the game. Afterwards the game was like before the patch.

 

In general im ok with the game. Played through singleplayer and still enjoy it. But i would like more FPS. So i installed the new ATI driver -> no change. I installed the patch -> no change. I ordered a new CPU (Q6600) -> still waiting for it. And i ordered 1GB ram (so i will have 3 in total) -> still waiting for it.

I can't play with the keys and mouse for single player it takes the fun away for me, yeah im a moaning git, but I play for fun, I just bought a new control pad for GTA after standing on my logitech dual action one the other week, I need this update to stop my resc10 problem I keep getting so removing it is not an option.

no there isn't. a memory leak is caused by bad coding meaning some data is constantly being accumulated and not cleared until it takes up all your resources and crashes the app. only solution is to restart. it's one of the worst problems software can have aside from crashing on startup and is usually only seen in 5th rate 1C games like Soldner.

OS: Vista SP1 with .NET 3.5

 

 

No textures loaded before the patch, had to use a CacheBooster. Got 30-40fps but had freezes every now and then.

Installed patch, dont have to use CacheBooster but the game runs like crap 15-20fps. Even if I use CacheBooster aswell nothing changes, still get crap FPS.

 

The patch has done nothing but make my game worse

It's simple, I want to know how the Official Rockstar Games Patch for Grand Theft Auto IV on the PC has affected you, if you have even applied it.

 

Personally, I applied it, and it was the messiah to me. It has relieved almost all, or, at least all major (noticeable) bugs.

 

If you are still experiencing problems, will you please post your specs as follows...

hi every one,.im from iran,.and my english is not so good,.i installed the game,.and it works for me not bad,.i have error RESC10 ,.i download the patch manually,.when i click on setup it says (Error: Gtand thefr auto iv was not detected. please make sure that grand thefr auto iv is installed and working correctly) i cant install the patch,.pls friends,.can u help me here?

XFX 280GTX

4gb Ram

There should be a poll option for having changed things negatively. Screen artifacts abound, my FPS is down a good 5-6, my laptop gets extremely hot (didn't before the patch), and the memory usage went from 1.2gb to 1.6....

Well i have to be honest i have never had any problem at all very lucky i suppose the graphics are beautifull and runs smooth as hell,and online runs great aswell for me. And after the patch i have a few extra fps. The funny thing is i dont have a super powered gaming machine like some of you lol.

 

I have amd 64 dual core 4600+ x2, 2 gigs of ram, windows xp, Nvidia geforce 9800 GT 512 MB GDDR3 which i installed a few days ago to play the game It only cost me £80 pre owned from pc world reduced in price. And i have it on High texture high render 10 view distance, 20 detail distance, and vechile density set to 65, and no shadows.

 

And it runs so good, i am lucky i guess but i have nothing to moan about. I feel sorry for all of you that cant play it as it is one hell of a game the city is alive and amazing place to play in, and online is awesome. Especially in free roam mode.

 

Great game well done rockstar it is great game. But i do understand people's anger with the problem on these forums and i hope thay sort it out for you all. Well that is it for me i am off to play some more gta i am hooked on it
