EdGein,

Maybe you could post a DXDIAG so we can take a closer look at your system?

Are you still going to sit there with that smirk on your face and tell us you weren't aware of these problems before release?

And did you look at the damn requirements on the box before you bought it? No? So STFU, you thread jacking spammer.

Dude, come on. *face palm*

You see that little button there with the "Save All Information..." written on it? He meant post that.

whoops sorry tounge.gif I honestly did not notice that

I have an e6600 at 3.6 ghz, 2 gb of ram and a 9800gt. The only way i get decent playable frames is on low textures setting. I jack up render to highest with a 100% view distance and i get a steady 35 frames. Until the ever so lovely memory leak eats all of my meory and my FPS slowly dwindles to unplayable levels. I was hoping a patch would fix it but now i have to unplug my x52 pro just to play the game. dontgetit.gif

Try med textures with a lower view distance, much lower...

At 15 view dist I get very acceptable graphics, I'm sure you can get it higher with your 9800gt but 100 is a bit overkill since there's a lot of stuff being drawn that you won't even see except rare locations. You can set the detail distance to 100, that's what I do with my "lowly" 8800 GTS, 320mb of VRAM and it's looking great.

How much memory does that 9800gt have? What resolution do you play in?

You should definately get better performance and get away with medium textures...

About that memory leak... I don't have this problem (can play for hours) and my gfx settings are right below my "allowed" memory usage... maybe the memory "leak" happens only when people go over their hardware's limit? Just a thought...

As I said the only difference between my rig and yours is the CPU but even then it's nearly the same. How fast is that E6600? My stock speed is 2,66ghz but overclocked to 3,56ghz. Since the game is so dependent on the CPU you may want to look into overclocking...

My RAM is also overclocked but from 800mhz to 866mhz there isn't much difference...

After a few survey I did in this forum, I can say the CPU needed to play this game smoothly is a quad core 2.4 GHz or a dual core 3.0 GHz or higher. If you have a dual core 1.8-2.66 GHz (no matter what is its model number) you'll play it sh*tty.

It's only my speculations.

I have nearly the recommended requirements and I play on the lowest settings and with 800*600 and my fps are between 17 and 35 but most of the time 18-21. The patch does not change something in my case except for that RGSC Club runs faster. The game is unplayable !!! Please help me Rockstar !!

I'm not sure but I think that mobile GPU is restricting you a bit...

Also, 0,2gb available on your system drive? That's never good man... try and free up AT LEAST a gig or two.

You could also overclock that CPU just a little bit... but I have no experience with laptops so don't take my word for it. dontgetit.gif

yo.

specs: e6600, 2gb ram, 8800gts 320mb, xp

game settings: 1024x768, texture low, render low, viewdist 1, detaildist 1, car density 30

fps? 15-20.  cool.gif

I have the same system as you do, except CPU which is E6750 and here's what I get:

game settings: 1024x768, texture medium, render highest, viewdist 15, detaildist 100, car density 100

Average FPS of 44.... something's wrong here. I can't see why some people can have stellar performance and others have so many problems with almost exactly the same rigs. Hell I have better performance than some who have Quads and higher GPUs...

What the hell?

I'm not bragging or trying to piss you off, it's just weird...

try to cleanup your computer. You know, only keep the sh*t you really need. Try to have as little processes running with the game as you can. Hell, I'm on a 5200+ X2 and I can make the game run good, especially since the patch. I guess it can only be the same difference between identical rigs, how well they are maintained.

E: maybe also driver conflicts, or hardware not designed to be used together.

all i gotta say is, welcome to the club. Anyone playing the pc version of the game is in the club unless you have a super uber system or you have, for random reasons, crappy pcs (some reason the crappy pcs play it better than mine unless those with crappy pcs are just embarrassed to really say what their specs and fps are.

just about the same as me when I turn all the graphics to low.

BTW Disk defrags and disk clean ups do help a bit tounge.gif

consoles are best for fighting games like the warriors, mortal kombat, soul caliber... those types of games which are fun but what they need to do is release them on PC and maybe make some controllers specificly for the PC that wont suck....

Not true, I play resident evil games etc on my PC all the damn time. Theres only one reason to use a controller, You cant handle a keyboard and mouse. The extra controller ive ever needed to use for gaming, is a steering wheel for driving games. Thats it.

GTX 280 + Q9450 + 4GB ram here. Medium textures and everthing else on high i get 20-30fps. f*ckING BULLsh*t. Even when I turn the settings all the way down I get the same fps! I can't even put textures on High because the game crashes after 10 seconds of gameplay. With my graphics card completely killing the recommended and with my CPU being better than the recommended, I dont see why I'm not running the game at 60+ fps. I can run Crysis on VERY HIGH with better fps. I'll wait for patch v3.00 and maybe I'll get 0.5 more fps the way rockstar are deving.

They didn't even bother to fix the bugs that were on the consoles, its a sh*tty port from an xbox 360.

^^ Yeah I went too far with the rant there tounge.gif Basically Rockstar have done a completely sh*t job with the PC version of GTA IV and then released a patch that does nothing but waste our time. I hope rockstar reads all our little rants and decides to actually do something about this horrible port.

lol RE on PC sucks because it cant be played with keyboard and mouse and it isnt comparable to fighting games... and I can handle a keyboard and mouse with ease, should have seen me back when TF2 came out, dont think there was a sniper out there that could compete with me... as for "driving with controller" I actually honestly think that driving with keyboard is 100x easier and funner even

@mupet0000 - They had this same problem with porting bully from ps2 to 360... lol I dont think they could find an excuse to blame the low frame rate on with that little doozy, but this is gtaiv and people ARE making noise because of it... I dont this will effect their chances with future gta's but it will harm their fan base turning everyone against each other lol

Sorry, I don't see the DXDIAG there.

Perhaps you can cut and paste it here? From system information to Sound Devices should be sufficient.

I know this isn't your area, but it would really put a lot of minds at ease to know that the general performance is *not* what was intended. So if you can find information about this, that would be great.

I have nearly the recommended requirements and I play on the lowest settings and with 800*600 and my fps are between 17 and 35 but most of the time 18-21. The patch does not change something in my case except for that RGSC Club runs faster. The game is unplayable !!! Please help me Rockstar Toronto !!

I installed the patch and wiped out my entire OS and started from new. I installed all my updates exc "serevice pack1", .net 3.5 and serv ice pack for it as well DierectX updates before installing any drivers and then installed my 8.12 drivers and I even bought another HIS 4870 1GB card to crossfire with my other one and I still get the out of video memory error or the RESC10 error as they call it. Here is my dxdiag. I do get probably 40 FPS avg. now that I installed the patch, while running at 1920x1200 but they need to fix the god damn memory leak issue!!!!!!!!!! I will also add that alot of the issues I saw before the the patch have disapeared as well. I seen faces off of bodies and all kinds of similar crazy stuff before the patch.

yo.

specs: e6600, 2gb ram, 8800gts 320mb, xp

game settings: 1024x768, texture low, render low, viewdist 1, detaildist 1, car density 30

fps? 15-20. cool.gif

I pretty much have the exact same system as you with 4 gig of RAM Running windows Vista Premium

After trying all the "Tweaks" and reading what people with worse computers than mine getting double the frame rate I thought meh lets try going back to XP

I Installed XP 64 bit and i went from 15 FPS to around 45-50 FPS.

With the no restriction command i was able to put it up all the graphics on and it dropped to around 35-40 fps

Maybe its a vista thing, or could be that its a clean install... not sure but i'll take it for now smile.gif

R* Have f*cked up the game big time, I've tweaked and tweaked, and all ive managed to get is 35FPS in the benchmark, With no shadows, High texture qual, High render qual, 100 Traf density. Not good enough imo, since the game still looks worse than the console version (And i hate consoles).

My PC is,

AMD Athlon 64 dual core 6000+ 3.1g

NVidia 8800GT

2g RAM

------------------

My games,

Crysis = 50-90FPS with settings on highest

Tomb Raider Underworld = 80-130FPS with settings on highest

CoD:WaW = 80-100FPS toned down a little

World in Conflict = 40-80FPS with settings on highest

Recent R* ports to PC,

Bully SE = 30-50FPS Had to tone it down icon13.gif

GTA 4 = 25-40FPS settings on medium, view distance 0, detail distance 15

(benchmark 33 FPS) icon13.gif

Somewhere, somehow, after San Andreas, R* either forgot how to port or fired their staff that worked on these things and hired a bunch of noobs.

first patch of many.

Just like the previous games? :-/

I hope you're right. It just feels like there's far too few people being far too overworked getting this stuff fixed, and it ain't working.

Yeah i too have plenty of problems with the game

1:dynamic shadows work for the first 4-5 minutes then disappear

2:stuttering/choppy in some parts of the game

3:freezing and crashing after 30 mins or so

4:texture pop ups galore
