smokeringhalo
I remain curious about the file gtaEncoder.exe and what it does. *cough* replacement emulator. It breaks f*cking the video editor is what it does. I can't believe this f*cking bullsh*t. At least before the patch I could export a video with all the settings on low, but now gtaEncoder.exe loads up when trying to publish and locks up the entire system. WTF! Yeah, nice video editor enhancements Rockstar by breaking the f*cking editor, way to go.
ArecBalrin
Ok, if it's an actual video encoder, of course it won't work on some systems unless the performance significantly improves. Apparently Rockstar have said quite a number of graphical features like shadows are being handled by the CPU(meaning if you have an nVidia card, your special shadow optomisation hardware isn't doing squat). I'd like a source for this if anyone knows. But it definately stinks of an emulator.
jockc
I can't even install the patch. I get the error 0x80004005 "please go to www.gamesforwindows.com/support" .. yeah like I'm going to find the solution to my problem there. So I am SOL. I created a support ticket with steam and asked for a refund. I can't play a game at 12-17 fps sorry.

Weses
The game was fine for me before the patch, and the patch just basically improved my performance a bit and a few minor graphical errors. For the people who are still having problems, say what they are and Rockstar should take note of them and fix them in the next patch.
slade67
well the patched solved a lot of issues i had with my 1900 gt but still the shadows look sooooooooo bad it is hard to ignore them performance increased just slightly from slideshow to playable for medium setting except viewdistance i can set to 30 only) a the most important thing for me is i can now use my laptop to play because it finally starts the game without the the application has failed error. unfortunately the performance is quite slow but shadows look "awesome" compared to my 1900 GT card so i hope either ati or r* release another patch. just a stupid question but will vista maybe increase the quality of the shadows on the 1900 GT? as of using DX10 API to adress the DX9 of the card? Yeah, nice video editor enhancements Rockstar by breaking the f*cking editor, way to go. Ok I removed gtaEncoder.exe from its folder and tried to export my video without it. It looked like it was going to start as it loaded without locking up and went to the first couple frames of my video then immediately dropped back to the editor with the message "You do not have enough system resources to export at this resolution". I dropped my settings all the way down to low and tried again with the same result which is complete horsesh*t as I've been able to export @ low pre-patch. -norestrictions command doesn't help either. So I guess I'm going to have to reinstall just to export my movie. Bullsh*t.
Cuj0Flow
Well, here's a question: How am I supposed to install the patch when I get booted out of the game everytime 'Games For Windows Live' attempts to log in from the game??? Exact error: Grand Theft Auto IV Has Stopped Working Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: GTAIV.exe Application Version: 1.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 49189a0c Fault Module Name: StackHash_55f6 Fault Module Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Fault Module Timestamp: 4791a783 Exception Code: c0000374 Exception Offset: 000aada3 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 4105 Additional Information 1: 55f6 Additional Information 2: 468f750f11ed34235586bd8b5fe0f455 Additional Information 3: 0d06 Additional Information 4: eef75208ee8301d14cce50bea037e2ec I can only play and save games using an offline 'Live' account. Does this mean no patch for me? Would it kill them to allow users to patch without signing into 'Live'??? System Specs: Vista 64 Asus P5N-T Motherboard Intel Quad 6600 8gb RAM Geforce 8800 GTX *I recently upgraded my motherboard - game would sign in fine from 'Live' before the upgrade. ??? WTF? Perfekt
I have an ATi Radeon 9550/x1050, Direct X 9 card with 256MB of memory. I get this: You can tell by my Vista UI, that I clearly do have a DX 9 card. I think R* is retarded or something. Has there been any kind of fix for this? I think if I can run Fallout 3, I should be able to run this. >.< Btw, yes. Installed the patch. That's why it's the updated error message, instead of the one that just gives the error code. MelvinB
Patch doesn't fix anything for me. Poor performance, sound quits after a while and is resulting in a RESC10-error. Also, still some weird shadowing and regular removed heads etc in cut-scenes. Also, benchmarking results in GTAIV stop responding-error. Specs: - [email protected] - 4GB DDR3 1333mhz - HD4870X2 2048MB GDDR5 (Cat. 8.12) - X-FI Fatal1ty soundcard - Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1+other recent updates Settings: - 1680x1050 - High and Highest settings, everything on setting 100 So, when can we download a really noticable performance improved patch? christinme7890
i am glad for the bowling fix. I had this problem where i would just stand there. I could move mouse mouse and nothing would happen. Even playing pool was really sensitive. If I don't make really really short movements with my mouse i will hit the ball really slow. Yay now i can play bowling which i have wanted to do for so long now.

They took the time to update the error messages but not fix the game. I'm not even talking about fps, screw fps. I'm talking about the sh*t they SAID they were going to fix: Mirrors - still broke as f*ck with black video artifacts Editor Enhancements - the only enhancement was raising the system requirements to export - there are no additional editing features. I'll repeat that - there are NO additional editing features, none, nada, zip. I spent all morning with it & nothing was added. So WTF was the big editing enhancements they promised? other than making it impossible for lower end systems (512MB cards & lower) to export? They better hope that I still can't play multiplayer cause I know they're having their little play day online and I have half a mind to join in just to tell them how f*cking stupid they are. TruXter
This patch made my game so much better my fps indoors was max 20 and now it is max 33 my fps outdoors was max 14 now it is max 20 and now my cars have actual body damage bcuz before they didn't!!! thank you Rockstar P.S. i only have a p4 processor so i am very happy!!! Gave me a couple more fps. Cool thing is, when I rebooted, I noticed my video settings where set way hire. After I turned them down a notch and benchmarked, I notice a huge gain in fps. I bet most of these idiots are griping, and they haven't even rebooted yet. Meaning what they are seeing, is not real at all.. if they shut the game down, reboot their machine and start the game up, check video settings, and reboot game one more time. Things will be fixed. now I have to see if I can get my mscontrol panel back. I blame rockstar because my donut had one to many sprinkles on it. NSX
Let's cheer for R*, in their fight against pirates, they lost their loyal paying customers as well. I'm back to FSX when it comes to PC gaming, this patch just made the memory leak appear 2 minutes later then it would normally do, woohoo R* great fix. This is the last time I buy sh^t from you guys. You had your chance to correct your major f*ck up, and you failed to do so, making me play at 800*600, those resolutions are from the last century!! And the German market just spit out your release from the shops, hehehe good for you, serves you well. I'm pretty much done with this sh*t. I spend my whole PC gaming life with Rockstar games, didn't have to doubt the fact this one would be good, and now I get this sh*t. I'll be looking forward to Saints Row 2. Congrats Rockstar, you just lost another fan!

NickSlade
Ok just installed patch by starting the game (LIVE downloaded and installed then restarted the game) and they have changed Playboy X's apartment. There is no terrace anymore, just a blue painting on the wall where the door to the terrace was and the laptop is back again. Is it just my game being weird or has this happened to everyone else? When I first got the apartment after killin Playboy X I noticed it was different from the xbox 360 version I had played previously in the fact that the kicthen had an island with no laptop in the PC version. Can anyone confirm this change?
