Zeikzeil
[...]I didn't spot yet if the memory leakage is fixed, but I play now withowt cache boost[...] That didn't work for me. I still get the same crashes as before without using CacheBoost or CacheManXP.

Pixelated
After 10 days of reading other people's rants, I finally bit the dust and installed GTA IV + patch (I preordered GTA but was seriously hesitant to install it pre-patch). Patch observations: - The good news: runs smoothly so far (see benchmark - 320MB VRAM only buys 1024x768 with low textures) - The bad news: in game sound FX don't work (music works, and menu sounds work). General observations: - The quality of the PC port is a shocking contrast to the quality of the game itself. - Even after mentally preparing myself, I was astonished by the amount of spyware I had to set up, and by how unfriendly the installation was in directing me to the various required downloads at random times. I still get the Flash Player 9 error - I have Flash Player 10 and apparently Player 9 is only downloadable from pay-per-download sites. I guess there was no space to include it on the 8GB DVDs. - Microsoft takes the cake in annoyance. After entering a playertag for Live with a typo, I read that I had to PAY MONEY TO MICROSOFT to change my playertag! Recall the scene from Idiocracy where the protagonist gets his supposed name, Not Sure, tattooed onto his arm. - Start menu for GTA IV contains a shortcut named "Revoke License". As a paying customer of Rockstar, I feel insulted by that option even being there. I love GTA, but I will never buy another game that makes me feel so disrespected as a customer. Benchmark (clean WinXPSP3 install, 180.48 ForceWare): Statistics Average FPS: 54.45 Duration: 37.08 sec CPU Usage: 89% System memory usage: 40% Video memory usage: 92% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1024 x 768 (75 Hz) Texture Quality: Low Render Quality: Highest View Distance: 23 Detail Distance: 33 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (comment: 320MB version) Video Driver version: 180.84 Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output Intel Pentium III Xeon processor (Core 2 Due E8500 @3.16GHz) (2x2GB Corsair DDR2-800 cl5) Cheers. Reboot your PC and make sure your sound device is set properly. The patch reset my audio adapter too but a reboot and re-adjust fixed it.
PrizeFighter
With my generic ps2 USB controller installed I only get an overhead view of the game and its not even a zoomed out overhead view (like, GTA original), its more like the camera is setting down on top of my head facing the ground. Unplayable with controller now even after I restored the files that needed cracked to support the Generic ps2 controller, same thing happens except now GTA IV recognizes the controller with no crack and the key mappings are changed. On another note, My low set graphics will now save! No more setting them before each play which maybe a source of problems if people have made the "commandline.txt" files, R* has messed with something in there that could be causing a conflict <---- just a theory. I configured my "commandline.txt" file down bare minimum and set the rest of the settings through the game itself, my game play is fine (low settings still), but my gamepad is jacked (must I spend another $40-$50 bucks for the microsoft junk controller). Any help with controller or new patch would be great!

darksunx
What a heck? Still no SLI support?! You made me very disappointed, Rockstar. Releasing a game title without SLI support with such technical requirements is unacceptable these days. I've been waiting for this to be fixed since 3rd December and finally when the patch is out I find out the major defect is still present. Don't make me wait for another patch for another 2 weeks. Regards.
GTAMonkey2012
How the hell I can install tis f*ckin patch. I start the game and there is a message "Signed in он LIVE(offline)". What the f* that means? There is a message that an update is available and I click Yes. A updating screen appears for about 10-15 seconds and then dissapears. Just I'm back in the game and I can't Sign in on live because every time I try the update message appears all over again. What the f* this sh*t means? I cannot update the game I spent 40EURO for. Can somebody describe the update process, because I'm pissed off? I have the same, must be server issues, ever since this patch has come through I cant get into live, been running mint, no problems since release day. All the direct links here either time out or I get CRC failures on download of zips (tried numerous times firefox/IE removed cookes etc etc). Can anyone re mirror the download patch under rapidshare/zshare please? EDIT: This download patch link worked for me (links at base of wording in blue): http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/12/13/dow...uto-iv-patch-1/ Edited December 13, 2008 by GTAMonkey2012

Plus the mouse isnt working correct anymore. The view ingame just goes up and up and up. How can I solve this problem? @Rockstar: This is just unbelievable..... jaisonbass
Well, I didn't have much of improvement on my FPS from all the methods I tried and the drivers I installed. This patch did improve the smoothness, and removed any stuttering. and the loading time is real quick, as well as when I exit the game. My specs: Intel Core2Duo @ 2.0 Ghz 3.00 GB Ram Nvidia Geforce 260 GTX I play on High @ 1400 X 900 resolution. The 2 sliders are kept at 20. I get 30 - 45 FPS indoors. and outdoors 10 - 25 FPS, even on medium or low settings. I'm guessing my processor is not allowing me increase my FPS. I was thinking the same thing about uninstalling the patch but theirs no way too.Your better off uninstalling the entire game and reinstalling.I recomend backing up your save data. For vista users its under C:\Users\(user here)\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV in that folder copy your save games and settings folder and replace after you reinstall the game.
