Maybe it's time to add my replies as well ... I admit I was waiting for a cracked release of this game, but it took so long I decided to buy the game .. If I knew what sh*t this would be I would have never bought this game ... Let me first tell me my system specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2,4 Ghz @ 3,2 Ghz Asus P5B-e 4 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR 2 Ram MSI Gforce GTX 280 (pre-overclocked) The first thing you will tell me is that my CPU is the minimum and not recommended ... Even though some ppl with this CPU and lower graphics card (8800 gt) get MORE fps Everything else is recommended ... Before the patch the game was hell.. I mean I want this game to be smooth and no stuttering should happen. I tried all different resolutions up to 1600*1200. I play every game at this reolution so GTA IV should not be an exception. To make it short there is NOT one resolution I can play without the stuttering and low FPS. I found settings which gave me more then 40 FPS but guess which .... Resolution --> 800x600 Textures --> LOW Render Quality --> LOW View Distance: 1 Detail: 0 Cars: 0 Shadows: 0 Now take another guess ... IT STILL STUTTERS FFS!!!!!! After the PATCH I got even more problems: 1) All sound-effects just disappeared ... (good one F*ckstar!) 2) I even lost 5 FPS .... 3) It still plays like hell ... and don't tell me GTA IV needs a quad core to play this even at the lowest possible settings!! I have like 30 games currently installed and none of them gives problems ... I have to admit that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion also stutters like hell But that's because of bad optimization ... And even Crysis and Warhead cannot be put at the maximum settings but thats normal. For instance GRID --> I play it @ 1600*1200 with 16Q AA GRID is not GTA IV but still my PC can handle it. GRID is maxed out but also Call of Duty: World at War, Call Of Duty 4, Test Drive Unlimited, Tomb Raider Underworld etc... So I am so disappointed I cannot seem to play this game smoothly at the lowest settings! For the record, I tried different Nvidia drivers up to 180.43 Beta 3. 180.43 Beta 3 was the worst one! My GTA IV crashed for the first time when using them ... Anyway there are better companies out there and nicer games but it's a big shame on you F*CKSTAR! SantaHugo Posted December 13, 2008 Share Posted December 13, 2008 Guys, beware! If you've got missing textures and/or bad shadows there's a solution for you in the support. I was advised to turn off any software that runs along my video drivers to enhance performance, do a clean proper driver install and if you got an ATI card like me, turn mip-maps to full quality from the ATI catalyst center. I can confirm that disabling ATI Catalyst A.I. and turning mip-maps to full quality seemed to have solved the missing textures problem without the patch! (For me it happened only at night and then it followed me everywhere inside the game!!) I've got an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450 256MB and I CAN PLAY THE GAME OK. If I can play the game with a ...mobility card 256MB (driver updates only from DELL and are scarce...) you can too! Don't blame R* Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm Hoping that this will be the first band aid in a line of stitches and surgery. This game is running fine for me, given my computer specs i would expect it to. Getting loads of ideas on how not to release the PC version ! The patch did absolutely nothing for me, I get the same errors as before altough I can play the game, just have to hope I can get a save in before it crashes. I would expect a second Patch is currently in the works at rockstar, unless of course they beleive this has fixed everything. When i press "Start" the pictures are coming 3 or 4 and then it is black and then im on desktop. Some help? Rokz0r Posted December 13, 2008 Share Posted December 13, 2008 i haven't sifted through this enormous thread, but i would like to add that before the patch my game was unplayable, massive stutters and always crash to desktop and resc10 error - after initially trying the patch i got a ctd as soon as i walked outsite Roman's apartment, all i did was a reboot, launched the game again and some legal stuff came up for R* social and i have been playing for about 7 hours since then with no probs . Only down side is performance isn't that great considering i have 2 gtx280's, but im happy i can finally play! cacolukia Posted December 13, 2008 Share Posted December 13, 2008 I downloaded the patch from a site and installed it, because directly from Live didn't work. I CAN PLAY BOWLING NOW! It's fixed. For now I don't have any other improvements like graphics, but guys, the bowling is fixed only for 10 days of waiting. That's a miracle. I didn't spot yet if the memory leakage is fixed, but I play now withowt cache boost and commandline.txt and the game runs pretty good. So I don't have a high-end machine (only Core2 3.0GHz and 8800GT) but the performance is pretty good. For a "future game" around 30fps is quite good at medium. rn_1604 Posted December 13, 2008 Share Posted December 13, 2008 My GTA4 crash quite a few times since I've bought it. And it really pisses me off as it kept crashing when i nearly complete a mission. This is frustrating! Rockstar do something! Does it crash at the start? It crash like maybe after 30-60 mins or so into the game... try upgrading to vista sp2 beta 0 problems for me I wouldn't like to update to something that's still beta... and wheeeee crash yet again!
