v180.84 beta 2/3 is just vaporware there is only 180.84 regardless of release dates, all updates get higher build numbers fools.

Is there anyway to install this on a laptop? I have the NVIDIA Mobility Modder, but the initial setup doesn't seem to extract any files to /NVIDIA/WinVista/. The only files in that folder are for the current driver I am running; 178.24.

Is there another location this could be self-extracting to?

You could maybe guinea pig this version of it for everyone:

I'm pretty sure that isn't Beta revision 3:

Driver Date: 2008-12-02 (YYYY-MM-DD)

I did not have a stutter or pause before with v180.48 not even blurry textures. Now that i tried the xx.84 i noticed a drop in fps, im now getting about 15fps in rain at star junction and the game feels a little more laggy. Im running a 8800GT. My draw distance :100 detail dist: 50 traffic: 100 Shadows :3. Benchmark went up by 5fps to 45 now but gameplay is worst, prob less texture quality. Im going back to 180.48

Probably not, but if you want 180.84 on a laptop then laptopvideo2go is probably your best bet....or you can just settle for your 178.24, either way.

I did have 180.84 on here, but it was giving me some problems:

- It wouldn't let me change my second monitor's display settings to 75hz refresh rate so I was stuck on 60hz, which was giving me headaches and causing obvious screen flicker.

- My resolutions and screen positioning would reset itself every restart.

So I rolled back to 178.24 and sure enough, my GTAIV gameplay has severely deteriorated. I'm going to try and upgrade to a mobility modded 180.84 again and see if these problems persist, because GTA was finally getting just about playable. If not I may contact NVIDIA and let them know the problems I've been having with their updated driver.

okay, i've tried 3 versions of latest nvidia drivers: 180.48, 180.84 beta 2 and 180.84 beta 3.

the results are dissapointing. i got the same fps.

How can you explain the fixes that have happened for me with the Beta 3 driver? Obviously they did something to the driver if there were texture problems with the previous set and all of a sudden with Beta 3 there is none and relatively smooth gameplay. Oh and they have been known to re-release drivers without bumping the version number.

looks the same to me. i dont notice any difference.

upon further inspection, i discovered that GTA4 was now taking up significantly less resources when playing

at idle, it was using up 2.6GB before, now, 2.2GB or so, dunno if this is because i rebooted, because the baseline is the vista install i have was using about 720MB or so sitting there when i booted this time.. amazingly, the frame rates seem to be improved even more than they were when i was overclocking.. let me run ingame benchmark and get back to you..

wow.. that benchmark must suck. because this game looks beautiful now, no jaggies, no horrible sync problems from time to time.. cant tell if its because i rebooted, but GTA4 is taking up less resources now.. so guys, before you go blame rockstar for shoddy programming, the drivers might have some blame too.. thank you rockstar, and thank you nvidia, you guys are awesome!

Don't know if anyone gets this with the beta3 drivers but my loading time has been cut dramatically after intalling them.

I only get two of the flash pictures before going into the black save loading screen and it is also done in about 5 seconds or there abouts. WTF. mercie_blink.gif

My comp is a 4 year old labor of love and it runs GTA IV pretty well. The 3rd revision of these drives makes the game run pretty smoothly. I don't get the best frame rate (25 fps was my best benchmark, about 23 other times) but I have everything cranked up as much as it will go in 1280 x 960. I can only get it to 16 viewing distance before it won't go any further (says 700mb video memory usage, it's in the orange).

My computer contains:

mother board: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI (939, baby!)

Processor: AMD FX-60 dual core oc'd to a whopping 2.8ghz

Video cards: 2 BFG 8800gts oc2 640mb

ram: 2 gigs (4 512 mb sticks) of corsair value ram ddr 400 (I know, these are getting replaced this week now that 1 gig sticks are affordable)

I run my operating system (windows XP) on my 10,000 RPM 74 gig raptor hard drive and my games from my 10,000 rpm 150 gig raptor hard drive. I think having my OS and my games running on two separate high rpm drives help out a lot. I hope my performance improves when I upgrade my ram to 4 quality 1 gig sticks.

I stress tested my system by driving onto the airport to get 4 stars and then proceeded to have a chase. The computer never got sluggish or unplayable and I was able to steal other cars in the process and eventually evade the police.

If it takes it I would suggest people determine what parts are in their computer, download the latest drivers drivers to a folder, uninstall their drivers (chipset, video card, sound card, mouse, etc.) and reboot and get into safe mode (start hitting F8 when you hear the beep) and reinstall all of your drivers, then restart.

DO NOT INSTALL DRIVERS ON TOP OF DRIVERS, THIS WILL RUIN YOUR PC AND CAUSE ERRORS. You must UNINSTALL OLD DRIVERS before applying new ones.

This game loves ram and if you are having trouble with pop ups think about adding more or replacing what you have like I am going to. It keeps your game from having to pull information from your hard drive and can have more loaded and ready to go at one time. I know a lot of people here know all this but some people don't. I am one who has been there.

U say u must uninstall the existing drivers...what about using the update drivers feature under device manger for video card

It is always better to uninstall, reboot (safe mode) and reinstall. Some people even go as far as to use a driver cleaner to make sure that the driver was completely removed before they reinstall. You do not want to deal with a conflicting driver issue. When they double up it is bad news.

What method do you use for uninstalling drivers?

I either go to the add/remove program thing in the control panel and go to nvidia and pick what I want to remove (force ware or video card stuff) or right click the desk top and go to the adapter tab from the advanced properties.

If there is another magic way I do not know it. I try to stick to the motto if it ain't broke don't fix it because then it usually does get broke.
