FFS, I can run the game. 25-35FPS Depending in circumstances (e.g day/night, Heavy/light traffic). Oh and FYI, Overclocking is not that big a deal, Its quite easy once you read up on it. Ive overclocked my 8800GTS 640MB, from 500Mhz, to 610Mhz Core, and 1800Mhz Memory clock, My AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.6Hz to 3.0GHZ.

 

Since you think ur so smart, Here is a quick 1 min program i just whipped up, to test your apparently unique knowlage of this stuff.

If i was working for R*? Yes. Simple, Here are a few way for them to optimize.

1. Take advantage of Cuda to simulate the physics.

2. Increace the shadow shading density, to get rid of the apparent "Pixelated" shadows.

3. Instead of simply hiding the objects when detail distance is turned down, they need to actualy delete it from system, and gpu memory, aswell as delete it from the physics engine so its not included in the polygonal collision check.

4. They are obviously not using the shader cores to render the shadowing, as having 16 diffrent shadow sources, and causeing a slowdown is diabolical. Most engines allow up to 400 different shadow sources, before slowdown beyond 60fps.

 

However im obviously not working for R*.

Drop your uneducated elitism, the fact here is that this game (just like the 3 previous ones) is a console game ported for the PC (in 7 months).

This game and all the technology in it was "designed" to push the latest consoles to the max, not the PC. The game doesnt use PC hardware efficiently because it wasnt programed for the PC in the first place. IV doesnt even warm up your GPU.

 

If you think you have alot because you get 30 fps on this i have news for you, you could have 60 fps, you could have better graphics (those shadows eww), you could have a DX10 render mode, you could have antialiasing but you dont.. and you wont.

 

IV is just like SA, my previous PC was far more powerfull and capable than a PS2, but the game was made primarily for the PS2 so my eyes had to get used to that, end of story.

 

And you claim that the PC gamer buys this and this and that.. well this PC gamer doesnt buy this and this and that.. i do the research and keep up with whats out there (software and HW) but when i upgrade i buy future proof components to get the most out of my hardware/money, i dont buy hardware to paste on sigs or to brag about frame rates on the internet, i buy it to game with and enjoy my games.

 

IV could run on mid range specs, if it was developed properly for the PC it would be scalable and more people would buy it and enjoy it (at lower settings) but if R* were to build IV for the PC from scratch we would have to wait alot more than 7 months, it would take so long that it wouldnt even be worth it.

Let's not beat around the bush here. There's a lot of noise like this game doesn't run at all or there's missing textures and everything else. From what we've gathered a lot of those problems are either out of date drivers or we don't support that type of card or you're underspecced or whatever, it's always a combination of one of those things, it's not necessarily that we don't know what we're doing because obviously we put in hundreds and hundreds of hours of test into this.

 

Out of date drivers...so out of date that nVidia have had to release beta drivers JUST FOR THIS GAME!! The UP TO DATE DRIVERS were not even good enough!!!

 

Please do everybody a favour Abottig, and have a nice cup of STFU until you have some clue as to what you are taliking about!

 

I am still waiting for the answer to one of my previous questions O Great Master Super-1337 PC guru...how do you run this game at 1900*600? Did you optimize your monitor by sawing it in half??

Funny, that's the same thing I think of you.

 

Some people need to get this into their thick skulls: the game needs serious fixing. Some people can play it, most of the people can't. PC's with the same specs run the game differently. some get decent fps by setting the res high, others with low res. Some people get decent FPS by using low res textures, others get it using high. For a lot of people the tweaks do absolutely nothing. One dudes 8800 GT outperforms some other dudes GTX280. Hell, some can't even get past the loading screen.

And it's not only casual gamers having the problems. Check overclocking/hardware tuning forums, even some of the most experienced guys with monster rigs are crying like little girls.

They get a small profit out of PC version cause of piracy so they simply do not put much work in PC version. end of story, case closed.

 

I even bought x360 JUST for GTA IV (sold it already) and now playin it on pc. Both were great but i was really hoping for AA on PC Version.

if you read the op and you perceived it that way, then i do apologize. that is the last thing i wanted to do. i tried to convey some sarcasm in the title.

 

also, you're talking to someone who has worked for best buy and circuit city as a firedog tech, geek squad tech, and salesman. i no longer work in retail, but to this day i supplement my income by fixing computers. i have worked very closely with pc users in three demographically unique ares (specifically:boston and metro area, northshore ma suburbs, and western ma suburbs). part of my job was, and to a lesser degree still is, going directly to the consumer's home for service calls. i also sold pc's ona sales floor. you would be shocked and amazed at some of the things i have encountered. the average consumer simply does not understand how to use their computer. most can use aim, office, or wmp just fine, however they are clueless about the technology behind it. that's the problem that rockstar is encountering with IV. it's not so much that a patch is needed(and it is), it's more an issue of people just not "getting it." with so many variables at play, there are going to be a lot of people unable to make it run. which i why i say to play it on console, and leave pc gaming to the enthusiasts who have the time, money, and PATIENCE to do the research and put theory to practice.

Dude, I have it running at 32FPS on my system, which i consider pretty good considering most people are getting no more than 20FPS. Its just that 32FPS is not good enough. Basicly since it runs at 30FPS on an Xbox360, i payed an extra £800 for 2FPS? WTF??? While i agree that alot of people dont actualy understand their hardware, I do, and IMO 32FPS is not good enough on a £1000 PC!
