Why GTAIV doesn't work

How the f*ck is this game "next gen", when it's neither DX10, nor does it have AA at ALL?! I think in two-thousand-bleedin'-eight the least I can expect from a new release is antialiasing and some reasonable bloody settings!

Hmm, I wonder why. Lets see:

1. It should run a 60FPS+ on lowest settings, on the minumum specs, as that's standard, But it does not.

2. Shadows look like crap. That is a shader problem, which you can blame on our hardware, as you seem to.

3. No AA in a suposed "Made for the future" engine, And so that excuse goes down the drain.

 

The simple fact is that they have applied no optimization to this PC release.

also, the console's other settings pale in comparison to the pc. it may be missing anti-aliasing, but overall, it looks far superior to the console. throw in the editor, independence fm, mouse-aim, future mods and patches, and this game kicks serious ass.

Let's not beat around the bush here. There's a lot of noise like this game doesn't run at all or there's missing textures and everything else. From what we've gathered a lot of those problems are either out of date drivers or we don't support that type of card or you're underspecced or whatever, it's always a combination of one of those things, it's not necessarily that we don't know what we're doing because obviously we put in hundreds and hundreds of hours of test into this.

 

hmm it worked during testing. and i got it to work on my rig without a problem(which is just a decent system).

 

 

 

We've found that definitely with old drivers you'd have major performance problems. Throughout our development cycle we've seen variants in performance and we've had to work with mainly beta drivers mainly to this day with some of the hardware…There's power management issues where your CPU isn't running at the clock frequency that you purchased that can cause major slowdowns. We were able to reproduce that one. We've basically been trying to reproduce any kind of slowdown but when we were testing we were on fairly clean machines and we hadn't seen these kinds of problems…

 

have any of you tried shutting off speedstep, or other power saving features of your cpu? especially you quad core users? how many of you can take a pro-active approach and do a little research into your hardware? come on people.

 

read the ign article and maybe a light might go off in your head. take a more pro-active approach to making this game run. if you have higher than system specs, and the game wont work, then maybe you should try to fix the problem instead of flaming people who can run it.

 

 

We've never stopped working on the game, we're working on it every day. We haven't had the typical break after it's gone gold. We're continually working on improvements, we're working on a patch right now.

I'm a PC enthusiast since the 90's, got the first 3D Voodoo card to play Quake fine etc. I can tell you... this game is the BIGGEST CRAP I ever saw. Running the same sh*tty FPS on 800x600 LOW and native 1680x1050 HIGH is proof that this game is the worst port ever. Quad cores CPU 8Gb RAM with SLI video cards getting 45FPS is just unacceptable.

 

Also, we cant tweak this game our way since they made a "dumb -console like- settings". Even the beta had more customization, you could turn dynamic textures down (water, shadows)..

 

So, YOU and R* failed!

 

Optimization is the key... R* need to learn it.

Ah, well i didnt know that, But when i played it on a console, it was smooth. On pc theres fps jumps and dips everywhere. Also 30FPS, on a console should be giving us 60FPS at least on our PCS No?

disable all power saving and virtualization features in bios. overclocked hardware where possible in preparation of the launch(overclocking is not always neccesary but can add fps, effect detail dist., shadows, traffic, rendering, etc.). I also upgraded my graphics drivers. Then, after I got the game, i updated to the latest beta drivers. im currently running 180.84 beta 3 on the system below.

How do you know my issues are in the manual?

 

I don't have any technical problems with the game. I'm just hoping they fix the memory leak (And the blinking textures) and maybe tweak the shadows and maybe boost the performance a little bit.

 

My problem is people like you pretending you have the right to dictate how good or bad this port is.

What gives you the right to act like some computer guru on these forums?

I thought my Q6600 at 3.6 qualified for that...

FFS, I can run the game. 25-35FPS Depending in circumstances (e.g day/night, Heavy/light traffic). Oh and FYI, Overclocking is not that big a deal, Its quite easy once you read up on it. Ive overclocked my 8800GTS 640MB, from 500Mhz, to 610Mhz Core, and 1800Mhz Memory clock, My AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.6Hz to 3.0GHZ.

i have offered advice in threads and pm's to numerous users on the topic of missing textures, overclocks, and advanced bios settings. you wouldn't know because apparently you were off flaming somewhere else.
