My game runs fine also (aside from having 3 game crashes when i installed new nvidia drivers)

What settings and FPS are you getting, im curious as my system is virtually identical and working ok aswell, would be nice to have a decent comparison to see if we can get SOME idea of how gta 4 is MEANT to run.

 

Only difference is im using a 9800gt which is essentially the same card.

NO Framerate Issues

NO Other Technical Problems

Only pure fun and nice progress...

Well to be honest the 8800GT is a very good card and the 8600GTS was abit of a flop, certainly cant get anywhere near the 8800GT obviously. The 8800GT is also faster than that 3870XT.

 

I did not say it was not better then my card but he going on like its alot better when its not.

The benchmarks look abit odd at parts such as both on par, this is because of the screen res (1024x768) where the CPU is playing an important role, as the res goes up the CPU plays less of an important role and it is more the GPU and the higher you get like 1080P res then the 8800GT suffers too due to it's 256bit bus. 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 it is allot faster, even at 1080P.

 

Need a better benchmark site to compare really as Toms Hardware is generally crap these days.

The size of the monitor has no effect on the game, it's the resolution you want to run the game in. Fail.

Umm actually the size of the monitor does if you play at the native res you idiot.... the native res is higher with the bigger size monitor.

You linked to one benchmark that is 3DMark 06, the 8600GTS was slower than a 3870XT and 8800GTS 640 (And I hope you know an 8800GT is faster than an 8800GTS 640)

Also the 2900XT was on par with a 3870 and faster in some cases as it had a 512bit bus, and since I've had these cards I do know what I'm on about.

I'm in the lucky boat too I guess, after a week the only issues I've seen are the odd niggle, such as once or twice had the ammo hud disappear in solo or more typically in multi being disconnected when a rubbish "pc running to slow" message kicks in which is obviously memory leak or lagging due to overloaded servers, cos the game doesnt run badly at all on mine, maxed out totally using command lines I get 28Fps which is playable in my view.

I played the game very well (It was about 30fps, thinking about it, thats not that good) on an 8800gt with a quad core. I upgraded the other day to a GTX 280, while performance in everything else is much better, GTA IV refuses to play on higher settings it just crashes. There's no reason for this, a GTX280 is **MUCH** more powerful than the recommended 8600 card. If there are still some people that think rockstar haven't made any mistakes, think again because I'm 100% sure they have done a terrible job.
