Rockstar Toronto
Need more information on the error you see and when you see it. You can try disabling your internet connection and going through the offline release date check process.
Graven
I just have internet but it says Release date check failure. That´s interesting, usually release date check failure means You have a pirate version pre release. When did You get internet? Was it after the release day? Lighttree
I just have internet but it says Release date check failure. malcomosx
I'm also having the same problem. Originally i was connected to the internet, and it couldn't connect so i then used the activate offline. The activate offline screen came up, i filled everything out. I opened the offline activasion in IE on the same computer. When i was done it told me it worked. I clicked play in rock star social club. It then tried to verify the date, it failed. I tried clicking the offline activation button again. Nothing happened. I then disabled both of my NIC's, same thing. Tried clicking the offline activation, nothing. Tried removing the current activation and got nothing. I then proceeded to remove the game and reinstalled. It tried to verify the date, it failed, clicked the offline activation button and got nothing Kinda pissed My system: -E6550 -P5N32-E -eVGA 8800GT 512MB -4GB RAM Transcend -500GB WD HDD -Vista Ultimate with SP1 Edited December 25, 2008 by malcomosx

Pixelated
I just have internet but it says Release date check failure. That´s interesting, usually release date check failure means You have a pirate version pre release. When did You get internet? Was it after the release day? How do you know that? Do you have a legal copy? Anyways that's silly, the error could be any number of things. Especially since he got past the activation it would seem that it's a legit copy of the game. chngdman
I had this issue twice, both times were after 1: I flashed my bios (ATI SUCKS!) and 2: I cleared my CMOS (ATI SUCKS AGAIN!). Please check your date/time in both bios and in windows - as you are probably set to a date on or before December 1rst 2008, which will cause the game to trigger this protection. I hope this helps. j0s3ph
Im have pretty much the same problem that everyone else is having. I got the retail game for x-mas, installed fine until online release date check came up. Oddly enough it goes up to 30% then quits. I tried the offline activation and got through that and it seemed sucessful but on launch the release date check still comes up and fails and the activate manualy button no longer does anything. I have uninstalled and re-installed and i still get the same results upon launch. is this a port issue ? ? ? side note: i can log on to the rockstar social club website but the game wont let me log in to the social club it says im not connected to the internet. my specs: 2.80GH.z cpu 2GB ram eVGA 8500GT 1GB XP Service Pack
aylane
We also have the same release date check problem - we bought the game yesterday, and would love to play it. It wouldn't pass the check online, so we generated the activation code offline, it said it worked - but now still doesn't start, saying release date check failure. US support is out until Jan 1. So if anyone knows a solution, please let us know.
Willthor
I had the same problem, but i fixed it: What I didnt see the first time was that you need to install the offline installer, also given at the securom support site. I did the same thing as others did, and first get the unlock code, didnt work and reinstalled the game. But after I looked again, I went to this page: https://support.securom.com/rockstarunlock/...x.php?c=offline there it said that you needed to download the offline installer given on that page. After that it worked (except some ws10 issues, but that simply updating ALL your drivers, but that solution is given elsewhere on this forum most probably)
FRAGEYE
Yes do the offline installer and double check your computer time. If you really can't get it to work still. I would uninstall and restart and do a fresh install. Also make sure your firewall doesn't block it.
1337group
Problem solved: Open port 443 on both UDP and TCP on your router. Be sure to match your computers IP address in the IP column(linksys routers)

Yeah, thats how I fixed it my time was set to 2007 and not 2009 so release check failed when trying to install gta iv. Had the same problem with Crysis games but the time set fixed everything.
