Call for a public apology from Rockstar Games

Question

illuminati2025

Right now I am very tempted to go on a tirade, but I will try to exert some self-control.

Personally, I am furious at the state Rockstar Games chose to release Grand Theft Auto IV for PC. Are they honestly going to sit there with a straight face and claim that they were not aware of these issues before launch? Of course they knew about the missing textures, the RESC10 errors, the shadow problems, the poor performance resulting from bad coding.

I loved San Andreas and Vice City. I pre-ordered those games without a thought. I trusted Rockstar Games to deliver a fantastic polished product. Likewise, I pre-ordered GTA IV. I trusted Rockstar.

--After the two hour install process, which is understandable.

--I decided to tolerate SecurROM on my system.

--I made two accounts for Social Club and for Games for Windows LIVE.

The first time I tried to load social club, it froze before I could log in. I had to reboot my system.

The second time I tried to load the game, I got past the log in, only to have the game crash after the Rockstar title (it froze on a blank screen, after 10 minutes task-manager reported the game was not responding). This happened several times.

For some reason, I did finally get through to the main menu. I clicked "Start". After a brief period of loading, the game crashed with a "RESC10 error". This is as far as I have gotten. I have not even played the game yet to see how it will run on my system:

Alienware m9700

Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS x 2

2GB PC3200 RAM

AMD Turion 64 ML-37, 2.0Ghz

Yes, my system is starting to show its age. Yet I can run Fallout 3 very well. Mass Effect runs great. Call of Duty 4 is smooth even with many settings cranked up. Doom 3 is a dream. CPU-intensive simulators like Silent Hunter 4 still run great on my system.

I have the latest patches that have been approved by Alienware for my system.

Issues such as crashing during a load screen, or the rampant issues reported by others who have been fortunate enough to even get into the game, were known by Rockstar. They chose to release anyway.

They have violated my trust. They have violated their artistic integrity (And game design has truly become the art form of our generation). But the worst part about it is they have violated the consumer's trust. They refuse to acknowledge the situation, claiming that only 1% of users are experiencing issues. This is a blatant corporate lie.

I call for Rockstar Games to issue us a public apology on these forums. I demand that Rockstar Games reassure us that they will continue to patch this Alpha-version of the game until it is worthy of being called a Gold release. I demand that a product recall be issued, with any consumer who owns the game right now, who asks, will be guaranteed a full refund.

I demand that Rockstar Games admit that this game was rushed and was not ready for release.

Why are people so angry about this? Because underneath all of the technical problems, there is a great game somewhere here. I paid $50 for it because I trusted Rockstar based on their past reputation. That reputation has been completely shattered. I am embarrased for them. There is an amazing work of art here somewhere, lurking beneath all of the rediculous technical problems.

Are you honestly going to sit there and tell me that you weren't aware of this sh*t during "Beta-testing?" Did you even make an attempt at quality assurance?

In my opinion, whoever was managing the PC version of the release should be fired, unless someone above him forced him/her to release.

This is a blatant example of a studio raping their fan-base. I am ashamed for them.

This is shameful, and I ask that anyone who feels like I do post here and also demand a public apology. I know "Rockstar Toronto" will see this, and I ask him to post here and explain to us what happened.

I want to play the game. I paid $50 for it. Either fix it, or give me my money back. End of story.

The PRIMARY purpose of this thread is to get Rockstar Games to issue a product recall, so that those of us whose retailers will not return our money because we have used our cd-key can get a full refund, whether through Rockstar directly or through the retailers.

GTA is great game but last version is very bad for most of PC gamers. We play all version and old versions not have that many bugs. We all wish good patch.

Important news article:

Grand Theft Auto IV PC: How To Get A Refund

Source: http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/43399/Gr...To-Get-A-Refund

Quote from the article: "As we first revealed, the scale of the problems experienced by gamers who purchased Grand Theft Auto IV PC, is so unprecedented that Steam is refunding their customers on a case-by-case basis."

So that's good news!! If you downloaded the game through Steam, there's a good chance you can still get your money back.

Also, this article about the widespread and game-breaking technical problems for the PC port can be found at:

http://pc.ign.com/articles/936/936304p1.html

Unbelievable. They still cannot admit how badly they f*cked up.

Rockstar has disgraced their own name. There is no possible excuse for this mess.

Either:

--They did not Beta-test whatsoever.

--Their QA team is completely incompetent

--(most likely) Rockstar was very, very well aware of the massive technical problems for this rushed port and decided to release anyway, to cash in on the Christmas rush ASAP.

This is utterly disgraceful, and I continue to be very vocal about getting a refund for this broken product.

Old articles.

THIS, however is new. http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/937/937272p1.html

"US, December 10, 2008 - ATI has released its 8.12 version graphics drivers. Our sister site, Voodoo Extreme, reports that that the update attempts to fix issues related to Grand Theft Auto IV. The PC version of Rockstar's free-roaming action game has received criticism for being poorly optimized. "

AGAIN, IGN states "criticism for being poorly optimized"

Woah, holy crap.. ATI is admitting to lazy drivers ???

I mean look at all the games they are patching at once.

looks like they haven't been focussing on a certain issue, for a while now.

Seems to me that Rock Star is the only good guys here.

The people who are fuqing up are Nvidia, ATI, SecureROM and Microsoft.

So far Nvidia, an ATI have made good with the driver release. Now it is microsofts turn!

SecureRom just sucks in general, i dont think there is a way to ever fix their reputation.

It was CockStar's responsibility to release a game that was compatible with modern drivers. They completely and utterly failed to do that.

And then they have the nerve to shift the blame on Nvidia and ATI, and make them fix CockStar's mess?

Why should Nvidia have to fix CockStar's atrocious port?

In any case, if CockStar is so quick to point to OUR faulty drivers, then they admit they were aware of massive problems upon release, yet went forward anyway?

I will take this moment to officially apologize to Janne. Public apology if you like. She is a girl that I met in Bergen 1 week ago in a bar.

I did mean to call you back, I did not mean to hump you silly and leave you.

The reason I did was that I was in a hurry. I had to catch a bus that left early.

I had no intentions to treat you like this. But I did, and I am sorry.

I agree 100%, it's everybody else's fault that GTA:IV runs like crap and we're lucky to have the upstanding folks at R* trying to clean up the mess left by: Nvidia, ATI, Microsoft, SecureROM, PETA, Westboro Baptist Church, Global Warming, the United Nations, Sub Prime credit crisis etc, all of whom are to blame for the poor optimization and bugs in GTA:IV.

Oh for gods sake.

They are working on a patch. If you want a refund go and get one.

You will only buy it again when the problems are ironed out.

Patience anyone?!
