OK, it's time to vote for your favourite!

You know how it goes, if you want to find out more information on the nominees, please check this topic. It would be nice if you said a few words backing up your decision. smile.gif

It was a toss up between two Olympic performances for me. And in the end I had to choose Usain Bolt's three World records at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

I watched Bolt in awe as he, quite literally smashed three of the most coveted World records in Athletics. Bolt quickly became the fastest human being in history, and the first sprinter to clock a time in the 100m sprint of 9.69 seconds. this beat Bolt's previous World record by a considerable margin. What's more amazing about witnessing Bolt do that, was that he actually slowed down and started celebrating a whole 20m form the finish. I think this record is the most impressive out of Bolts three, because he wasn't even at full speed.

The 200m World record stood for 12 years, and was often thought of never being broken. That was before Bolt came into the mix. He obliterated the field in the final and broke the world Record by 0.01 second, and it was absolutely amazing to witness. I'll never forget him looking at the clock when he ended the race, and seeing the look of jubilation in his face. The 200m event is Bolt's favoured event, and to break a World record in the final of the Olympic games is astonishing.

Bolt then went on to be a part of the World record smashing Jamaican 4x100m relay team, and ran his leg, which was a bend, in under 10 seconds. The Jamaicans smashed the World record by 0.30 seconds, and Bolt played a massive part. When Powell was on the final leg, Bolt was only about 30 metres behind him, as he was running over to celebrate with him.

For Bolt to jump on the scene and do what he did, and from being a sprinter myself, I had to vote for Bolt.

So that's my vote, now it's down to you to crown this years 'GTAF's sports performance of the year'. Voting will close on approximately 1st January, 2009.

Happy voting!

Going to have to say Usain Bolt here, i just believe that as long as i live ill never see anything like he did in Beijing again. Which i was happy to see but sad that i dont think it will happen again. Anyway it was just a great performance by him.

Again (i said it in the other topic) good work here Flicko.

Bolt was just f*cking epic.

He took the previous record, f*cking stuck his cock into it until it bled, and then shat on it and buried it on the yorkshire moors.

All the while showboating and celebrating 10m too early, just because he could. Sports needs people like that.

I had to go for the New York Giants stealing a win, and the superbowl, from the Patriots.

Although the Patriots are my favourite team, Eli is my favourite QB and his escape from the 3 man blitz (2 of which got a hold of him), and then tossing to an already marked reciever, Plaxico, who caught it on his head and managed to keep a hold of it as he fell, was f*cking brilliant.

That 1st down (which was thrown on a 3rd down (?)), then went on to give them the winning touchdown and points.

I still cant believe how many times Brady was sacked and thought it was rather funny how the Giants put them and 18-1 for the season.

This vote would've been extremely closely followed by Jamaicas success at the olympics, as i thought that was really amazing, too.

The Patriots' defense was in a 4 man rush and playing zone coverage and the pass was to David Tyree, not Plaxico Burress.

I voted for Michael Phelps.

Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson. Such poise. And big teeth too.

Lol, I just knew you would. tounge.gif

Very different ongoings in thes vote compared to the person of the year vote. At the moment it looks to be a four horse race, but with over 20 days of voting left, anything can happen.

I voted for Britain's admirable performance at the Olympics this summer. It made me and many others proud to be British and I think their performance is a testament to the Nation's commitment to the 2012 games. smile.gif

Michael Phelps; 8 gold medals at one olympic games is a pretty astonishing feat.

Quoted for reasoning of my vote.

How can you not say that wasnt the best? Barely winning one race, tying the world record for most gold in an olympic event and then breaking it. Greatest. icon14.gif

I remember the dark skies and the ominous sound of silence around me as I sat, and waited for the Pools to open and for Michael Phelps to stand on the board and create history in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. Phelps victory with and without the other American swimmers was something special, it captured not only a nation, but the whole world as it showed the feat which any one man can accomplish if he puts his heart and his mind to the test and this is why I voted for it. I watched and enjoyed all of Phelps races, bar one, because I was out getting drunk.

Slight update- I'm going to close the voting stages on approximately 24 December, mainly because any time after that I'm going to struggle heavily to get on here up until sometime after January. There has already been over 40 votes, so the people who are interested in this and want to take part, more than likely already have. By the time this closes on christmas eve I can't see many more votes being made, so it's all good. icon14.gif

And the award for GTAF's sports performance of the year 2008 goes to...

Michael Phelps, for his eight gold medal haul at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games!

I'd like to thank everybody who participated in this, whether you have nominated anybody, voted for anybody or just viewed this with interest. It's been great fun, and I look forward to next years! xmas.gif

I was initially going to vote for the lightning Bolt (a remarkable character the bugger has) but call me biased*, I just felt so smug about this achievement: the Kiwis win over Aussie in the Rugby League. Anything to get a leg over our cousins and screw them up the ass. biggrin.gif

* I'm not alone, the British media's obsession with Team GB is getting old tounge.gif .

Other, going to have to say the Championship playoffs this may. Bristol City beat Crystal Palace 4-2 on aggregate after extra time, while Hull City battered Watford 6-1. The final was fantastic as a spectacle, with Hull beating Bristol City 1-0. With a goal from golden-oldie Dean Windass. For complete excitement right up til the final whistle, the playoffs do it for me.

Looks like I am the only one so far to make a vote for the mighty Havant and Waterlooville. I like rooting for the underdog, and it was such a great run of results from a tiny team. They took scalps from York, Notts county and Swansea city on the way getting 7 great results and gave Liverpool something to think about for a bit of the game, two times taking the lead only to lose bravely in the end. It was a dream cup run for a team from the lower levels. Well done lads.
