Wow, this is a momentous task. I was wondering when people would start working on new weapon models. I can't wait for these.

Glock 18C (high-poly model ~45% done)

Remington 870AE (texture started, ~5-10%)

Weapons I have planned out:

 

Combat pistol (Desert Eagle) - Desert Eagle

Micro-SMG - IMI Micro-UZI

SMG - MP5A3

Pump shotgun (the shorter one) - Mossberg Cruiser

Assault rifle (AK47) - AK47

Carbine rifle (M4A1) - Noveske N4

Sniper rifle - Remington 700

Combat sniper - PSG1

RPG - RPG-7

Grenade - M67 grenade

Bat

Knife - KA-BAR (not sure)

Molotov

Nice choices, but, questions:

 

* The Remington 870 is going to replace the Combat Shotgun (Remington 11-87), amirite? If so, how does that work? Last time I checked, the 870 is pump action only, not semi auto. The Franchi SPAS-12 (overused though it may be, I still love it) or the Benelli M4 Super 90 (M1014, this would be the more realistic choice) would be more suitable replacements. I'd suggest using the 870 as a replacement for the pump action shotgun instead. (Since you've already started on it)

 

* As I see someone else mentioned, the Glock 18C is select fire which, of course, the GTA IV pistol isn't. If there's anything I hate, it's using a weapon in a game that looks like one thing and behaves like another. Of course, it's your work and it's not my place to tell you what you should make, but I just won't use it if it's an 18C, the arsenals of these games require enough suspension of disbelief as it is.

 

* The Noveske N4 is an interesting weapon, but as someone else said, the HK416 would be a more realistic choice. Even so, they all work much the same way, so it really doesn't bother me that much. Are you planning to include any accessories on it?

 

Finally, if I may make one suggestion for an additional weapon (not a replacement), it's the M249 S.A.W.; I've read that it's possible to add new weapons and, of course, it'd require some coding to get it in-game and working, but if it could be done it'd be quite a showpiece.

 

Why the M249? Of all the different weapons that could concievably be added to the game, I feel this would make the best addition. It bridges the firepower gap between the M4 and the RPG nicely, filling the (currently empty) light machine gun niche. It's powerful enough, but not so powerful to have tremendous recoil and therefore require a prone stance (no such animations exist and would be too difficult to add), it's small enough to work with the current assault rifle animations, and it's not at all unrealistic to expect Niko could acquire a weapon like this on the black market for a price. At least, it's no more of a stretch than the RPG. monocle.gif

 

Anyway, please don't take the serious tone of my criticisms to heart, that's just the way I come across. Whatever you make and however you do it, I'm confident this pack will be excellent. smile.gif

Well first of all I need a lot more of the weapons done before I can even think about releasing something, and more importantly the tools are still very lacking at the moment - normal and specular maps can't be used in-game; thus it would look nothing like intended.

Finally, some updates! They look great, as always. But about the maps, I thought normal maps could be used? I think quechus13 uses them for all of his weapons.

Doing a pack for GTA IV like I did for San Andreas a while ago (although this will consist of more of my own and better content this time). I know we can't put new models in yet but it's better to start early because these things really take time - especially because I'm doing proper normalmaps for all of them: making high-poly models and rendering those to texture for epic smoothness / detail biggrin.gif

 

Everything by me unless otherwise specified.

It's merely my humble opinion, but I think that badass looking remington you've made would serve much better as the pump-action. i remember first playing GTA4 being really dissapointed that the pump action they had didn't have a stock. For some reason that was a real let down to me. But the model you've made would kickass as pump action replacer. Also, try not to kill me, I think it would may be better too release the weapons individually instead of as a whole pack. i think people would jump at the chance to use any of these in game at the soonest possible time.

Like I said, please don't kill me, I'm just some asshole giving his two cents.

PS: You're model's are absolutley badass.

And if you don't like how I assign the weapons to the slots, you can always rename the files, should work just like that.

I hate to be a pain in the ass, but do you have any idea when these tools might become available? Sorry, I'm just eager to see these great weapons in game.

 

As for renaming them, I don't think that would work...not for the shotguns anyway I don't think. Because in weaponinfo.xml it references the pump animation for the pump action and the automatic shotgun had it's own animation. I remember trying to switch out the weapons before and when I selected the shotgun that I switched out and the game crashed. I don't know, I'm more or less a dunce though, maybe there's a step I need to take that I didn't. It just occured to me I could also reference the correct animation for the model in weaponinfo.xml...but I don't think then it would do the pump action animation. Sorry I'm not not trying go off topic, thinking out loud I guess. If you know a way I could effectively switch them out after you release these please let me know.

 

By the way, again, great work. By the looks of it these are probably the best looking weapons for a mod for GTA.

hehe +1 for the G36E or the G36KE, but without the AG36, since we can't even use it and it doesn't look good (IMO)

Noveske N4 - interesting decision. Would love to see how it looks in-game. Plans on having it as a plain set up (iron sights) or with a optic ?

Looks great... but apart from the (in my opinion) excessive scratches (wear & tear) it's perfect.

 

And yeah: I seen that you are going into service so... take care and hopefully have fun.

It's really just the presentation, it'll probably look much cleaner in the game
