lol my friend has his E8500 @ 5ghz, running on a phase change unit, minus 50 degrees celsius

He needs to get an E0 rev, will go higher than 5GHz then cool.gif

DOWNLOADER BEWARE!!!!!!! i got the beta 180.84 supposed to help right ? yes alil in gta but crashes other games, in instance Farcry 2 i get 60 fps , then i got 15 20? the beta tailors to that game and screws up others!

as for overclocking i did it for the first time on my new machine i figured

since i got the overclockers high end gaming mobo i might as well do it

i went from C2Qx8200 2333mhz (7x333) to 2.800 (7x400)

FSB 1333 to 1600mhz, astronomical differnce in multicore games. modest differnce in gta4 but as we knoe gta4 is messed up

however even for my handbuilt rig and my Zalman9700 my cpu runs 20 degrees hotter (Farenhiet)

MCP (NBP) runs 30 degrees hotter , however yes dont do it if for one you think you will make a low-mid ranged pc go faster odds are

if your hardware now isnt that fast ocing it may not be a good thing at the risk over damaging your hardware. look others with your mobo

and see there results , odds are its not you proccesor giving you lows fps its most likely your GPU

the title "I run at 38fps, and you don't!" sounds a bit smug. i think it's total bs. my buddy has the EXACT same parts at the EXACT same clock speeds with excellent cooling and his FPS is 20 ish like the rest of us.

i wish i had a super computer the chip is ok could do with a quad at times like this

i have a Quad OC to 3 GHZ and the FPS is still subpar. i think the author of this thread is lieing

I got a E6750 @ 3.2Ghz, 8GB DDR2-800, 2x HD4870, AC Freezer Pro 7 in an Antec 1200, running Vista x64...

I average 23fps through town and 26fps in low density areas. Hurrah!

Definitely time for quad core..... sarcasm.gif

Quads are very nice to have , Clock them right and its like having two core 2 duo's , technicaly more like having 4 pentium 4 HT's

but the differnce of having a quad at 1333fsb and going to 1600Mhz fsb with a quad is night n day, notheless quads are uber

Dont OC unles your experinced and know what you tinkering with , most mobos people have the north bridge gets hot enough , push a couple more hundred MHZ through that and you will blow it

you have a friend with the exact same set-up? read my sig and tell me he has the EXACT same set-up.

how do people gain experience overclocking without actually trying it?

...btw, what's with all these anti-rockstar sigs?

are you people telling me that when the next GTA comes along you won't buy it? if not for your sh*tty pc, then at least for your 360 or ps3? you people are full of sh*t!

most gpu manufacturers (like evga) give lifetime warranties, though im sure overclocking will void your warranty.

as for your cpu, there are safeguards in place t ostop you from frying your board(although it is still possible). therefore, you should only overclock if you have done all the right reading(GOOGLE!!).

it's not 1995. overclocking is very easy and safe with the right components.

yeah i remember 1995 , had a pII 133 wanted 166 , blew it , got a 233 , push 250 worked 2 weeks , died , i miss those days ,

neway on EVGA flagship products they will replace it even if it blows with OC it

thats why i love the Nforce 780i they build OC tools right into it not to mention elaborate cooling systems , and a x-treme speed MCP ( there take on a north bridge) ops @ 533 , crazy fast ,

i wen from:

QX8200 2333mhz (7x333)

780i 1333Mhz fsb

OCZ highPref. 800DC

to

2800mhz (7x400)

1600mhz

OCZ 960mhz

now my rig is crazy fast. (pretty hot too)

but i got the Zalman 9700 so im not worried ,

Before I purchased this game I prepared myself by learning as much as I could about how to overclock my cpu. It was time very well spent! When I first booted the game I was prepared for it to be sh*t, and not run. I was wrong, and right from the start it worked flawlessly.

I'm running at:

1600x900(60Hz)

medium textures

highest rendering

33 distance

max distance detail

max traffic density

max shadows

On this:

Core 2 Duo e6600 2.4Ghz, overclocked to 3.2Ghz($155 tigerdirect.com)

4gb OCZ 1066mhz RAM(Overkill, but cheap. 800mhz is $45 newegg.com)

BFG 8800GT OC 512mb($172 directron.com, but you can get a 9800gtx for $190 at newegg or a gtx260 for $220 )

Fortunately I already had this stuff, and all I needed to do was overclock my processor. Thank God for the Core 2's overclock ability! If you have one of these and you aren't overclocking, then you are wasting your cpu's potential!

are you sure it doesn't have anything to do with you running XP in 64-bit, dumbass. People have better systems than that and still get crappy performance, it's a fact GTA IV doesn't give a fat f*ck about your hardware =]

my base is

7 core multiplier x 333 fsb yields 2333mhz

i went 7x400 n got 2800mhz with 1600 fsb , to me thats a decent overlcock , pretty fast i think ,

how ever i could go

7x420 2940

7x450 3150 mhz

7x457 3.2ghz what u guys think?

but that would run my fsb at 1828??????? ok to you guys?

so that's the answer? 64-bit OS is this answer? no sh*thead, try again.

gtaiv does give a sh*t about hardware. that's why sh*t computers can't run it, and it's gonna take a super rig to run it at MAX. that's the way PC games are, the way they've been, and the way they should be.

you should stick to your console n00b.

overclocking my GPU

still didnt get more than 27FPS or so, which is playable.. like i said the internal benchmarking utility for GTA4 is inadequate.. the game plays fine on stock speeds of both CPU and graphics card.. EVEN BETTER MY PSX-LIKE CONTROLLER WORKS NOW! YAAAAY! its just like everyone says that vista sucks, but i dont see it. I run my equipment at RATED SPEEDS and the game does fine, with tweaks its better than PS3 or XBOX version.. ive noticed little things they put in the PC version that were not in the PS3 version, like the cops are a little smarter and small things.. if you dont like the game, you dont have to buy it, so yeah, i bought it, and i am happy with the performance on this machine at stock speeds..

ASUS P5q SE/r

2x2GB DDR2-800

core2duo e8400 3.0GHz at STOCK SPEED ( love the large cache, eat it AMD!)

ASUS 8600GT w/512MB

AGAIN I REPEAT: THE INTERNAL BENCHMARK SUCKS BADLY, AS THE GAME PLAYS FINE WITHOUT HESITATION ON MY MACHINE I dont know where people get off treating a 37 second bench as a full blown test of graphics anyways.

overclocking is only dangerous if you dont know anything.. done properly it can give your software a boost a lot of the times.. it may not be much of a boost anyways, like, i jumped from 24FPS to 27 and i had to clock the ram a full 100MHz faster than spec.. so yeah, half is the game's fault, because i did set everything to minimum and ran the bench on stock speeds, and it only got 30FPS.. so half is hardware issues, and other half is software issues, anyways, i shall be patient and wait for the patch, but i really dont see any really major "f you rockstar" problems, at least on my machine.. results may vary

im pretty sure your core2 at stock is faster than my oc'ed e6600. but that doesn't mean you won't get a performance boost by overclocking. in fact, you're really wasting your processors potential. core2's are simple to overclock and the performance boost is very real.

getting your cpu to run as well or better than one that costs twice as much is very rewarding.

i think the amount of ram you have also determines a lot of the playability, seems like the GTA4 exe takes up abut 1.5GB when running on my 4GB machine, and keep in mind windows vista 32 can only address 3.3GB or so, so yeah.. add on top of that what windows takes, around 900 or so around idle, and you have more than 2GB being used.. so i do think if you only have 2GB of ram, you should consider a cheap upgrade to play this game if you want to badly enough.. i saw 2x2GB for $50 or so, DDR2-800.. it makes a difference here, but yeah, i would like to see the potential of this CPU, but all i have is a stock cooler so i dont try it right now, i think i might dig the water pump cooler out of the closet and hook that up. seriously, what do you people expect.. get with the times.. hardware is obsolete every 6 months, ya know, consoles dont need upgrading, and i did play it on PS3 and it was awesome, but the PC version is even better IMO, and once they put out the patch, it will be grand.. honestly I dont see why so many people have so many issues with this game, i know i don't, and ive been playing it for a little while now, trying to see if the game will glitch out or do something stupid, and it doesnt.. so before you start hating on rockstar, i think they did a rush job, yes, but cross your fingers for the patch. stop jumping on the hate wagon.
