Fix for Textures appearing/dissapearing/absent

need help i also have only 1 g ram

but when i set the Settings for CacheBooster lower my texture is gone again

so what can i do how much lower must the setting go

Doesn't work for me. Although I think it works "better", not that much textures missing any more.. But the game is still unplayable.

 

It's funny because when I first start the game I can see nearly no textures at all, but when I alt+tab, I can see most of the textures but the hud goes crazy/off.

 

I have [email protected], 2gb ram and a lousy gf7600gt, which might be the reason? Thanks anyway, I think I've to wait for the patch...

and to ganjam0n, you are absolutely right. the game is having issues getting the textures processed. that is why i knew this idea would work. but im sure even after the patch this game will still cause people problems, and i expect this to be one of them, still.

 

for those of you with the slight bit of extra lag, go into the settings for CacheBooster, set it to Custom so it will let you change stuff, then set the cache to dump every 20-25 seconds; by default it is at every 1 sec. that is why you are getting lag, every second your cache is being dumped to your hard drive, ehich causes your drive to read/write, then it gets laggy. maybe even turn the cache dump off.. also, a good defrag never hurt anyone!

 

good to see it worked for you all, i really am. because i was also scouring the net for days trying to find answers or even a temporary fix. my fix as of today is to buy more RAM! thats what im doing!

the reason the textures are disappearing when you set them low is becuase they are too low for the memory to squeeze enough textures to your video card, if that makes sense to you. try my advice above..

i too (before trying this) would alt+tab out a couple times and my textures would change. some would appear and others would disappear. i was basically constrained to one small area of the city, if i would venture too far out, i would have NO textures, even after returning to where i previously had them.

 

try using this idea with one or two of those command lines everyone is talking about, it may work for you, and you have enough power there that you should be able to get it going.

i was planning on buying new RAM anyway, seeing as i only have DDR 1GB just isnt enough anymore..

 

if this worked for you, please add this link into your sig or onto other boards as it is a video explaining my fix, but i cant get it popular enough on YouTube for it to even show up without typing the exact name, even with a crapload of tags! i only got one reply and a couple of views, so if i could get this more wide-spread, maybe it will help more people..

I seriously recomend using minimem instead, because there you can choose the cachedump for a single process, wich seems to be uch more accurate try that instead m8

i havnt tried this Minimem yet, but i will give it a try now, as CacheBoost uses a bit too much of my resources when running GTA..

 

all in all tho, my fix concept still prooves accurate even with this other tool, Minimem, as it is also a memory optimization tool. i only suggested CacheBoost at first cuz it was all i tried!

Thank you so much. This is the only thing that has fixed the missing texture problem for me. I'm gonna play with some settings to help the fps. I also have only 1G ram with 8600GT 256. Time to upgrade again.

well minimem did give a slight performance boost over CacheBoost, but the textures dont load completely now very fast. but it still works good and until i get my RAM i will prolly use it over CacheBoost, but that is for performance, i still like the extra options CacheBoost offers.

I have 2 gb ram, but im not sure if geting more ram will help though, im not sure but i could of sworn i see people with 3gb and over with the same problems with textures, if the memorys leaking, it will fill any size ram in a matter of time right?.

 

This problem is seriously messed up and if Rockstar do not fix this in the patch, they can say goodbye to this customer.

 

I feel like ive been totaly screwed over.

in reality, yes, it will eat up all the RAM it can, becuase its a memory leak. but these memory optimization tools i am talking about will force the data in your RAM back to your HD and clean your cache as well, and this is done automatically and in very little time, all the time. though the game has memory leaks, whether or not you have 1gb or 18gb, it will eat all that it can becuase it doenst remember that it has to dump what its not using. this program sees that the game isnt using that data, so it dumps the data back to your HD and that frees your RAM. so it really does keep your RAM and cache clean as can be so that GTA can run for as long as you want, so the memory tool actually picks up after the game.

 

if you didnt try it yet, i advise you do, it will help despite the amount of RAM you have, cuz remember, the game will take and take and take until it cant take no more. thats when this app says "hell no" and then steals it back, whatever is not in use that is.

yeah i was not disputing the fact that it allows you to see textures again, as superfetch in vista does the same thing, but this is a error, you dont settle for games with memory leaks.

 

Personaly i feel very angry despite fixing my textures, and seing other people happy to half fix a buggy pile of shi* we actually payed money for kind of shocking and desperate, In other words this may fix one problem but this is not a sollution if you get me?

@ganjam0n, yea, it sux to have to use another program to fix a problem in another, but its most likely not permanent, its just a good way to play the game until it is properly fixed.

 

@rnd2k, umm, i just payed $55 for some *decent* Corsair RAM that im hoping (fingers crossed) will play the game better. and this was marked down from $89.99 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145486 ) but i really dont think any one of us have payed for the memory program; its a 30-day free trial, and i assume by then the issues will be resolved from R*.. but i see ur point, shouldnt have to buy one thing to make something work that should've worked to start with.

You know orange, it made me wonder about that, Xp has prefetch but Vista has superfetch, I am not sure if they are exactly or well much the same but I know in Vista it caches your system memory w/ data it "thinks" you will use next to make things "run faster" ...

 

I spose its ok but I noticed one program that it interfered w/, the prog would not function proper because of a memory error, this was because superfetch had used up most of the memory by storing files in it that werent being used but it "thinks" might be used, so the other program thought I only had say 200MB of 2GB ...

 

Superfetch is a service that is something we can disable..

I'm not sure if it will have any effect on my game but I wondered if my pc really needed more RAM, rec spec is 2.5GB, lotta other gamers have 4GB ... Interesting prog tho, will look at it..
