sgt.slaughter
I tried it and it helped a lot. All is it is a defragger just for the files inside GTA IV folder, so a lot quicker than defragging the whole drive, especially if it's an 160gb drive like mine! Or if it's a 500 gig drive like mine, which takes 3 hours to defragg!

WTFX
that defrag crap sounds like a big waste of time. here is a another great FPS tweak. Check out this link Cheating the view distance do the farclip 3500 tweak and set your view distance to 1 this will free up game resources i thought it was a great tweak for a long while, but seems it affects the weather a lot.. just look @ the benchmark for example.. the weather is bluish and foggy with farclp3500 while with unmodded timecyc.dat the weather is clear.. StoOopiD
i ve never noticed the weather differences. ill check it out. anyways i still get a some minor stuttering in the rain. So the weather just sucks. it still a great trade off. since the view distance slider is such a system whore.

Fragmentation is one of the most neglected performance issues around. MapMan
I did this but I dont see any performance boost(maybe its because i get pretty high framerates anyway). Well it didnt hurt to try.

StoOopiD
Actually, no, it's not. Fragmentation is one of the most neglected performance issues around. Im not saying i dont defrag. I use perfect disk 10 twice a week. so whats the difference in this defrag tweak ??? 1 frame
uk_john
The first time you use this GTA IV folder defragger, it takes about 20 minutes, if you then do it when you add or change a mod, i takes about 3minutes. Both of these are much better than the 60-90 minutes it takes to defrag the whole drive! I wouldn;t say this defragger alone makes the game better for low end PC's, but when added to all the other tweaks you should be using, it makes the game a lot smoother, stops 'pop in' and allows for higher graphic options. Gta Guy 108
I have a question about doing this, the question is, will the game drop any fps if you install mods after you defrag it? I have some mods that I must play with but I am afriad that it will mess up if I defrag it with mods. Can someone please help me out?

Installing mods in general lowers FPS depending on the mods regardless of what you do. Very minor mods may not have an impact but most mods that actually have an impact on the game will lower FPS unless they are specifically created to optimize the game. Could be as little as a fraction of an FPS to several depending on what mods and what they are doing to your game.

I just use minor mods like texture mods and some others to make the game run better, nothing really big like five trainers or ten car mods, even though I would not mind some big mods, I just do not want to drop alot of fps. DeV6iL
What really helps is GameBooster !! It works with Win 7 too ! It close Services and Processes that you dont need ! And you can defrag the GameFiles !
viometrix
I've checked the file now and its a keylogger. i think not, i downloaded mine direct from microsoft some time ago (long before gta iv came out) because when i program i can use it to optimize my save code using different command line parameters. so please, dont say things like this and post it to scare people without undeniable proof.... like a virus screenshot etc.

Extortionate
Contig.exe almost the same defrag game files, rearrange game files for better load. Well, if you de-fragment your drive regular, then it's useless. If you're installing things on a regular basis, then a defrag is recommended. willhub
This app does not work for me, just click on it, opens for like a split second then closes, does this on every file/folder I place it in.
SWEETSAPRIK
This app does not work for me, just click on it, opens for like a split second then closes, does this on every file/folder I place it in. If you plan on using it more than once, you can just add it to the Windows directory (C:\Windows). Then open command prompt (Run > cmd) and type the following command: contig -s "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\*.*" That's on a 64bit OS, on 32bit it would be wherever your IV directory is. I would assume it's C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\ but you'd have to check. PяopagaиdaIиc.
SteeLx
i tried it, not a malware, just a file drefrage for gta4, but no fps boost
Paradox.
Yeah, to be honest this whole contig does absoloutely nothing to an FPS boost. As the poster above said, it just defrags your game. If you want the game to have a slight boost, download GameBooster, I presume some/most people have it, you can defrag the game, and you can close background programs to improve fps. bloodyroth
that config.exe is not a virus ... in so many place we can download it ... i use taht fix and give to me 5 or 10 fps more .. is a simply directory defrag ... and some saids game boster ? game boster is yet ... if your pc is bad that config will not do magic. is only one of the 100 tweaks who gta 4 have. use or not i only want to said who that work to me
uk_john
I have used this program for about 3 months and never had a problem. When you have a One Terrabyte disk, it's a lot quciker defragging just the directory!!!!

007nice1
http://www.speedyshare.com/329153984.html Download that contig.exe file and place it in your GTA IV directory. Then create a shortcut desktop and have a commandline at the end( -s) and it should look like this: "X:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\Contig.exe" -s Then run it and wait till it close's because that means it's finished it can take anywhere from 5 to 20minutes to complete depending on your system. I gained 5 fps outside and 10fps inside after this tweak. When its finished...can we delete the shortcut?
