NiSsAn_BoY
Yeah id like to kno what the v-sync is also cuz I never realize what it does?
IronFixXxeR
VSync makes it so your FPS matches the refresh rate on your screen. 60 is what pretty much everyone uses. Doing this prevents tearing of the screen when you look or move around quickly in game. Try it with VSync turned off and you will probably notice. TRANSFORMER
LOL THIS SMALL THING OF DEFRAGMENTING WAS KNOWN TO MOST AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST PATCH ONLY. bp2018
Would be a whole lot easier to merely tell people to run a defrag on their HD which would increase the entire pc's performance, should be done every now and then anyway.

bp2018
I think you're meant to run it INSIDE the gta 4 folder, if you tried running it from the desktop all its going to do is defrag your desktop...
expiorer
It is not a tweak! It is a tool. It has nothing to do with GTA. It optimizes hard disk performance. It is just as smart as cleaning your monitor for better visuals - everybody knows that. Lock this thread.

peetre
I cant believe the malicious posts that call things virus's and keyloggers etc. Why dont you google the files first before looking so stupid. This is a defragging utility the surpasses the one provided within windows. It is free, and simple. You can defrag a file, a folder, or a drive. It provides more information as tho how many fragments there was. I use it all the time now. You can read about it and obtain it from technet.microsoft here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb897428.aspx

Lodis
how long does this take? mines been going for almost an hour The more fragmented your file system or GTA IV folder is, the longer it will take. It could take anywhere from minutes to hours really.

Lodis
If you aren't familiar with the command line, you can use the GUI version called WinContig which does the same thing. http://wincontig.mdtzone.it/en/index.htm

007nice1
http://www.speedyshare.com/329153984.html Download that contig.exe file and place it in your GTA IV directory. Then create a shortcut desktop and have a commandline at the end( -s) and it should look like this: "X:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\Contig.exe" -s Then run it and wait till it close's because that means it's finished it can take anywhere from 5 to 20minutes to complete depending on your system. I gained 5 fps outside and 10fps inside after this tweak. i dont understand

Go here: http://www.speedyshare.com/329153984.html Download contig.exe and put it in your GTA IV directory. Then create a shortcut to contig.exe and write -s at the back of the command line of the shortcut. It should then look sorta like this: "X:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\Contig.exe" -s Then run it and wait while the magic happens. It can take a pretty long time, depending on how fragmented your GTA IV folder is. Mine took 45 minutes.
Lodis
If you don't understand just use the GUI version that I posted earlier. That was the whole point of me posting that. With the GUI you just add the GTA IV directory and then click on defrag. Alternatively, just defrag your entire drive, it will do the same thing. Not everyone wants to wait for their entire drive to be defragged so occasionally defragging individual folders before gaming is a nice option which is the whole point of the OP. StoOopiD
the best tweak i found was the CHEAP TRICK go buy a 4gig flashdrive for about $10 and dedicate all of it to Readyboost. helps with stuttering and smoothness.

Rolf Harris
Hey there, I've just got GTA for my PC and I've being tweaking and tweaking. I've found some acceptable graphics at 15 FPS, hearing this can get you a few more frames a second I want to try this out. However, I am having some 'confusion' over the commandline; do you place the -2 in the name? Do you open the application and insert it inside? Stay safe. EDIT; Anyone? I'll leave this overnight... Rolf Harris
^^ I figured out how to do it. Didn't do much, about a 1 FPS increase if anything.
blood_hound
@rolf i think it's supposed to have -s *.* -v at the end, i've done that and i think it increased fps by 3? hahahaha IDK since i've been trying different mods specially the environment mod 4 which really destroyed my Game not really, before it can reach 30fps but with the mod it only became 23 and the buildings load really really slow no
TheOriginalDaniel
can i use this defrag program to defrag other games? like my copy of prototype doesn't work i get an endless loading screen when i try to start the game so a friend of mine at a store called "GameTraders" has he told me to defrag my hard drive and it should then work but i really havent found the spare time to defrag my hard drive as i assume that would take hours if not years to do.. so i want to know if this can defrag just my prototype game folders as well? much in the same way it is doing to gta4? thx in advanced
uk_john
I tried it and it helped a lot. All is it is a defragger just for the files inside GTA IV folder, so a lot quicker than defragging the whole drive, especially if it's an 160gb drive like mine!
