Improve AMD processor performance

Anybody that has a phenom 9500 or 9600 make sure you have the tlb patch disabled, for those who don't know with it enabled it decreases performance by 20%. The amd fusion tool disables it that's why you see a performance increase when you run it but if you exit the program it enables it again. Here's a tool you can use to disable the patch I run mine at logon just put a shortcut in the startup folder.

tlb disable tool

My'ns disabled in Bios

In vista sp1 it enables the patch at startup so even if you have it disabled in the bios vista will enable it when you logon so you should use that tool.

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but my framerate kept going under 10 every now and then but since I installed AMD Fusion it has never done that anymore.

AMD Fusion

Designed to help optimize your PC for smoother, more responsive game play in the latest PC games with the touch of a button, the AMD Fusion for Gaming utility helps achieve the performance edge previously only available to highly technical enthusiasts. It works by temporarily shutting down background processes and intensifying processor performance with AMD Boost. That means you can keep all the features of Microsoft® Windows Vista® ready for when you need them, but turn them off when you are ready to get down to serious business – gaming.1Made with simplicity in mind, we still let you behind the curtains and into the advanced interface to change how the utility works. You can customize with user selectable profiles which optimizes your PC for gaming. Also, you can easily build your own profile and choose exactly what you want disabled for a leaner footprint. Want to squeeze every bit of performance from your system? Engage our most advanced acceleration technologies such as Auto-Tuning and Hard Drive Acceleration.2 Push the limits for how lean and mean you can make your Gaming PC.At AMD we are dedicated to bringing together the people, ideas and technologies that help ignite the PC gaming experience. Solutions like AMD GAME! PCs and the AMD Fusion for Gaming utility make it simpler to enjoy the latest games and take your experience to a new level. All systems go!

You might also want to try (if you have a dual core) the AMD Dual Core Optimizer. I've been using it, I haven't tracked its performance increase but it seems to help a little bit.

Dual Core Optimizer (latest)

The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

The auto config was suggesting 1680 x 1050 with Med texture and High render quality. On my PC Vista 64, AMD phenom 9500, with 2gb ram and 2 x 8800GT SLi i was getting 17 FPS.

Ran Fusion now getting 40+ and the game is playable biggrin.gif

I heard the amd fusion tool only works with ATI cards. So if you have nvidia it most likely won't work.

Of course it'll only work for ATi, AMD owns ATi, I don't think they would want to offer performance boosts to their rivals GPU's...

Does this work on Single Core Processors?

EDIT: Ohh, and do the processes start back up after you exit Fusion?

AMD fusion just shuts down a load of processes

it is only compatible with AMD/ATI hardware!! not intel or nvidia

BE WARNED! using the higher levels extreme and advanced or w/e may close down important things like Antivirus or firewalls

I only recommend using this if you are having real troubles with GTA performance or you have loads of junk and your PC and you never optimize it

most gamers on PC generally have a clean, tweaked PC in which case this will not benefit you

i also recommend you do not use any setting that disable anti virus or firewalls unless you are disconnected from the internet!

Dear users,

I'm in doubt of what to do about this all.

First of all, here are my system specs:

Manufacturer: Packard Bell BV

Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz

Memory: 2046MB RAM

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO

Monitor: Monitor Plug and Play

Sound Card: Realtek HD Audio output

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111)

Now, my questions are:

What does this AMD program exactly do?

What are the risks?

Is it recomanded?

I have the same processor, but Nvidia video card, should I download that fusion?

I found also an overcloacking tool, does it work good?

I don't think Fusion works with an AMD CPU/Nvidia GPU combo.

Nice to hear.

My Video Card was an Nvidia 6150Le.

Till I bought an Ati HD 2600 Pro, and set it in the PCI Express.

FunGT, if you get any new thing to improve something, give me a touch.

Thankies!

I'd just like to say that these two applications, along with a driver update for my graphics card, have solved nearly all of my framerate issues.

Thank you UseXN, it's rare to find a helpful thread around here anymore. This was definitely one of them. icon14.gif

Im Using the AMD Dual Core Optimizer since the first day Ive GTAIV installed. Without the optimizer GTAIV freezes after a few minutes because only one core is being used. WITH the optimizer Ive no problems and both cores are used.

I'm running

AMD Opteron dual-core @ 2.2ghz

Gforce 8800GT 512mb

The game ran fine, with a little stuttering here and there, until I installed Fusion. Now it completely freezes everything and I was forced to do a hard reset. This happened twice, so I'm pretty sure fusion doesn't work for me. If you're using a system similar to mine, be warned.

Any ideas on how to stop AMD Fusion disconnecting the internet on Expert?

I just want to know which process it is. happy.gif

Eh, doesn't work at all. Still hovering between 5-15fps at all times. Fusion didn't do crap. The Dual Core optimization program though, I can't even tell if it's running. How do I turn it on/how can I tell it's running? I installed it and then nothing.

The dual core optimizer worked good with San Andreas. With GTAIV you can't see so much different.

Btw if you get 5-15fps with 8800GT and I get the same with 7600GS, we have to change our processor... even if the CPU don't get 100% usage when I run GTAIV (just 60)..

I'm currently running an X2 3800+ with a 9600GT and I didn't noticed much of a difference with these 2 utilities. The DC Optimizer made my gameplay slightly smoother, not much though. Fusion gained me 1 FPS more so I can't complain of a performance decrease using it.

I just wanted to say that by installing the AMD dual core optimiser I removed the problem I was having whereby the game would suddenly freeze up and only run at literally one frame per second after some random time interval (typically about 15 minutes). On this basis the tool is highly recommended for anybody with an AMD dual core CPU.

Good, all I have to do now is wait for the missing textures patch for 7900 cards... moto_whistle.gif

Edit : Oh and I was thinking of getting a 9800GTX+ once this month's wages come out.. But I'm hearing they have an even scarier problem than missing textures..? Anyone?

Useless, just uses more resources. DCO only helped with the freezing.
