mrcizzo
I have this weird issue you see.... I can play fine between like 30mins to an hour but afterwards it just starts stuttering along like every 2 seconds. I've defragmented like a ton of times to the point where it takes like only 2 seconds to complete. Ran CCleaner just to make sure. No spyware, no viruses. I can't really think of anything else as to what could be causing this. I check my CPU usage and it sits at like 50-60% and my memory usage is close to nothing. I checked to make sure the GTAIV process's affinity is set to both cores. I'm just out of ideas and I'm open to anything at this point. For the record: AMD Athlon X2 4000+ 4GB of RAM (Windows only finds 3.25 due to 32bit OS) nVidia Geforce 9800GTX Windows XP Professional 32-bit EDIT: Also, I changed the paging file to be on my slave drive and set it to double for minimum and triple for my max. Double and Triple my detected memory that is.
TravisBarker
Not sure, but i get the same problem. I think it has got to do with the memory leaks. come on patch.
mrcizzo
What's weird is, I tried monitoring my memory usage during gameplay and it surprisingly uses about a quarter of what I have.
siapnar
I get this too.. not sure why it happens. Pretty irritating, either way. Really detracts from the experience
Vicetopia
I don't get stuttering, but I do start losing fps. When I first launch the game and leave the apartment, I'm well over 50+ FPS. After doing a few missions I'm down into the 30's no matter what. Definitely has to be the memory leak. Once they patch that up, performance should stay consistently better (not as good as it SHOULD be though) ...

Muze
Same here, after about 15-20 minutes. Games runs pretty well up until then using modest in game settings on a [email protected], 2 gigs DDR3, 8800GT, Vista. Then stutters about every 1 to 3 seconds. Have to restart. Closing the game and restarting is not a quick experience.
McDodge34
I know this is not really related, but when you have more than 1gb of ram, paging file is not needed at all, just deactivate it, and turn off any services that are not needed such as system restore, error reports and the worst of them and the killer of all is the damn indexing service that no one really use (if you never use the search function in the start menu of Windows, this service is not needed at all, and you can still search anyway, just takes a little bit longer to search) you can access the services running via run command and typing "services.msc" be carefull altough, don't mess with anything you don't know about, for example, if you're on a wireless network with a laptop, don't turn off Wireless services, on the other hand, if you're on a desktop and plugged with RJ45, you can turn off the Wireless assistant that is not required at all, same thing if you don't have a printer, you can disable Print spooler with no side effects at all. just make sure when you turn something off, place the startup to either manual (safer) or disabled. Otherwise when you restart your computer, everything will start like normal. Warning again, don't mess with any services you don't know about. Disabling the paging file should be faster as well, since it will store paging data in main memory as opposed to the hdd.

mrcizzo
Disabling that only prolonged the inevitable. EDIT: I also noticed something that I didn't before. When my lag started happening I checked my CPU usage and it spikes from 50-55% to 100% and just keeps bouncing back and forth like that. I checked my GPU temps and it's at a pretty good 60C (good for a two slot beast).
