topeira
yeah, i read the readme.txt but i still dont understand. in what cases should i add -noprecache to the commandline.txt? how does it help or hurt my FPS or stutterings? usually my game runs fine, but any help can only make me happier. can someone tell me what does -noprecache do and if it's good or not and under what circumstances? thanks a bunch

Ducky is King
hmm off the top of my head, and at face value, to me, noprecache seems like it would be 'bad' Heres why, precache says to me; take a bunch of the little files and stick them in memory (ram) so they are loaded and ready to go. However if you dont have alot of ram, this could be useful I suppose as it keeps more ram free till it is needed. However during game play, if the game needs a specific file it has to wait for the hard drive to dish out the file and load it into ram. So I geuss, that command line wouldnt really matter if your over 2GB of ram, though it may help if you have say, 1GB. Now you must understand my response can be attributed to making up BS as I go along, however thats what THAT command says to me. Wether I am right or not? who knows. Chevyboy
well , it helped me for about 0.5 fps Also known as margin of error and/or randomness of variables.
ppehrson
well , it helped me for about 0.5 fps Also known as margin of error and/or randomness of variables. Precache is texture and/or 3d model caching and should only be turned off if your vid memory is lower than 512mb, IMHO.

mkey82
I always striven to keep that commandline and turn off precaching, even though I have no idea what its supposed function really is. GTAIv settings have always been so random for me, it's hard to tell what's the effect of any setting on performance.
GingerlyPocus™
Not sure, but I think it may be to do with pre-rendered frames - wherein the CPU renders frames AHEAD of the GPU, in general cases such as Consoles ( ) where the CPU is bounds ahead of the GPU. If this is the case, someone with a CPU as their bottleneck may experience a slight gain in performance by using -noprecache. All of this, however, of course relies on my guess being right.. chances aren't good.
