GTA 4 PC Patch Now Being Certified By Microsoft

Just an FYI for those that find their PC fairly unresponsive when they close GTA 4 down.  The problem isn't GTA 4 it is actually games for windows (oh wow big f*cking surprise there).  Try this out, when you close GTA 4 down and your PC behaves like a paraplegic Bill Gates (we can dream can't we) then bring up the task manager and find the task "Xboxstat.exe" kill that process and lo behold your PC becomes useful again.

I discovered this lil trick when I was playing Fallout 3, I would quit the game and have to wait an absolute age before I could use the PC again.

Well, this is kinda OffTopic, but I looked at your signature and thought like "LoL? Wouldn't it be better for him to exchange the graphic cards of the two computers??"

Just take that as an advice.

Oh, and thanks for this xboxstat.exe thing. I was wondering what that could be and I thought it was my xbox360-controller, but now I know smile.gif thanks

I hope v-sync will be properly implemented, it makes not one bit of difference to the FPS in game. I can see its off when using -novblank because of the minor tearing, but get no big fps jump like in other pc games, I can stand still outside the safe house and get 18fps with it on & off. wtf.

Thank god I have a 360 and can play it on there.

It will take a lot more then a patch to fix the lag in this game, it needs a total re-write, don'y expect much in a patch.

You need to refresh your tech wink.gif the 8800gts is at least twice the power of a 8600gt. Now whilst my 8600gt does have 512mbs of ram it is running on a 128bit bus which means it has transfer rate of around 22gbs which is nearly 3 times as slow as my 8800gts which whilst only having 320mb's has a memory bus 320bits and a transfer rate of 64gbs.

If that is all gobbledegook then trust me on this the 8800gts is in another league compared too the 8600gt. I only bought the 8600gt as a cheap display device for the core2duo. I would love to benchmark on that machine but the duo is shagged at the moment and I can't be arsed with it.

It may very well be to do with the 360 controller, it only came to my attention when fallout 3 was crippling my system on quitting and I looked at task manager to see what it could be. I have to confess I wasn't very scientific I just saw "Xboxstat.exe" and thought "hm it's got the name Xbox in it so I bet that is the problem". Lo behold shut it down and my PC was back to normal. The moral of this story is anything that has the name Xbox in it is a pile of f*cking sh*te and will not be working properly and is probably the cause of your problems biggrin.gif

That doesn't make it at least twice as fast. Look at the complete tests. While its effective bus rate is triple a 8600gt, that's not how it works in practice. For one, the processor is not specifically faster.

It IS faster but it is not effectively (in game) twice as powerful, just as two 8600's in SLI are not twice as fast as one.

While probably not twice as fast, tho it wouldn't be surprising, I did a test with far-cry 2. It runs at 35fps on my 8800GTS 640MB, but runs at 2-5FPS on a 8600GT. Both tests were done in the same machine, on the same graphical settings, Everything on highest.

that xboxstat.exe has caused me problems before, i couldn't load a game up, it would go to a black screen and then straight to the desktop even though it had worked before, the last thing i'd installed was a 360 controller so i stopped xboxstat.exe from running. It fixed it.

It also come as no suprise to me that the games without 'GFWL' and all the rubbish certification on patches by microsoft actually work proprerly, it's only when MS get their hands near a game/patch that things often don't work right.

Not sure what exotic grass growths you've been stuffing in your pipe, but the 8800GTS (yes, even the G80 version) is more than twice as powerful as the 8600GT. The 8600GT has 32 shader units as opposed to the 96 in the 8800GTS. The 8600GT is barely better than a current integrated solution.

Here are some numbers for you to look at. I could look up some benchmarks that show you how shoddy the 8600GT is but somehow I doubt it'd get through, you can look them up yourself.

What the hell, where is the patch? I want the patch now. I'm not going to wait for Microsoft (lol, who cares about their certificate, we're getting max 25fps on medium-end comps on LOW settings! this is a joke) to "test" the patch. What can they test btw?

Has anybody here even thought that maybe, just maybe, the reason it's taking so long is because Microsoft is fixing some problems that otherwise would have made the game unplayable to some?

I need a patch to fix this ASAP!

Game will run great for 2-3 hours then I get that error!

Means you run out of Video Memory. So tone down the VRAM attached settings

I can't wait to see the reaction here when the patch doesn't make the game run any quicker - I think some people are expecting miracles lol.gif

All they need to do is figure out how to get the engine out of XBox 360/PlayStation 3 mode with its use of the CPU. Although, with Rockstar, that probably would be a miracle.

I don't really need the patch, I get 25-35 fps on most settings high, I just want to see if the patch fixes the ugly shadows, and also I want my SLI support which i know won't happen in this one, but I'm still curious if the game will run any faster.

That would probably require a complete rewrite of the engine which is never gonna happen.

I expect the patch to fix a few problems like the memory leaks but I'll be amazed if it has any significant effect on performance otherwise.

Well, maybe a Patch will happen now. Since this is around the time the US wakes up.

But, I stress, don`t expect anything amazing. It won`t suddenly fix every PC or cure the common cold.

But I know after the Patch is released there will be 1000000+1 complaints that the pactch sucks, letters to the Senate will be written and gamers will be throwing themsleves under cars because their lives have been ruined.

Which is why moderators should open a sticky on release "Patch problems issues" and Patch "issues solved feedback" ... then lock the f*ck out of every complaint then on in.

I too get the RESC10 error (I get it after 3-5 minutes though, wish I could go an hour) and I get it regardless of settings. Everything on as low as possible, all sliders as low as possible, even running it windowed, and when running it an 1024x768. Incidentally, I've got a HD3850 with 512MB of vram, I thought that would be enough...
