And even Microsoft thought it was too bad to release to the public. So now the patch is back to R*, the may have already made a second version, which is now being certified at Microsoft. Think about it: Rockstar would never say: "Hey, guys, about that patch... It sucked so even Microsoft turned it down." Instead of that, they do what they do best: Keep their mouths shut. Although you'll have to calm down and chill for awhile before saying that the patch isn't coming out today. Afterall, Microsoft still has a full day of work ahead of them. If they start at 8am it is only 9:40 am here in Central time...and Microsoft HQ is in Washington, on the west coast....so it's only 6:40 am there right? They haven't even went to work today YET. I'm not counting on a release today but it would make sense, at least in my mind, to release on a Friday.. Although GTA4 PC launched on a Tuesday. That means i paid 50 Euro for a game i cant play and its not because it needs the newest computer available... i actually upgraded my computer 3 months ago so i should be fine. I dont care if i have to play on middle or even on low IF it wont lag. At first i installed it on my Laptop just to check it out. My Laptop met all the lowest requirements needed for this game. Well i can play it but its laggier than a match on a third world country server. Well then i tried to install it on my computer. When i finally did it, i couldnt play. First of all the graphic card i am currently using is made by ATI and since Rockjerk doesnt even betatest common graphiccards, i didnt get to play weeee 2 days ago i got the newest ATI driver but i still couldnt play weee Why? Because it f*cking crashes after the f*cking german legal screen. And yet some of you are whining because you cant play it on high? Be happy you can play at all! Also this whole certified crap is bad, I mean why not ditch getting it certified and use all this wasted time on fixing bugs? Realise this is not possible because of subscribing to being a MS flunky but take note for future referance or your great reputation will go down the pan which = alot less sales and much more piracy since people wont want to risk spending money on yet another crap product. The game uses GFWL malsoftware, which means microsoft has to approve it. The patch probably failed the certification tests. Like any other company, R* will only report news that is good, or news that they can slant to sound good. I can only imagine the response if R* posted "The patch was rejected by Microsoft, and we will re-submit a candidate in the next day or two". There are still a few issues, but the memory leak is gone, which makes the game very much playable. Or -- a fourth option -- the patch is still in process by Microsoft. I've said this elsewhere but Microsoft tells developers that the certification process takes 10 to 14 days from the date of receipt of all the deliverables. As I had posted elsewhere, Rockstar Toronto's original posting of the patch being ready and sent to Microsoft did have at least a little ambiguity in there so I'm not entirely sure when the patch actually went to Microsoft. I honestly don't think it's a total lie (although not that Rockstar hasn't shown themselves to be capable of that in the past). The only reason I say that is because a lie of that sort would also put Microsoft in a bad position and the latter wouldn't take too kindly to that. Further, I have had some confirmation (albeit not categorically provable) that Microsoft did actually receive a patched deliverable from Rockstar and one of the issues being worked on for certain certification elements was the availability of drivers to actually test some of the fixes on. If your option (1) was true, then your option (2) automatically follows. Although that said I don't know that I'd say they are necessarily taking their sweet time. My guess is, if they still have the patch or got it back, they are taking the time to try to get things right. They already have a fairly sizable group of people less than happy with them; thus you'd have to assume that (intentionally) coming out with a bad patch would not exactly be something high on their list of priorities.
