The funny thing is, if you read the original statement it contradicts a bit. Quoting from the Rockstar Toronto post (and including my own emphasis): "We are working on making a patch available in the next few days. Since Grand Theft Auto IV is a Games For Windows – Live game the patch must be certified by Microsoft before release. The patch is already at Microsoft and we expect a speedy approval." Technically "making a patch available" means making it available to Microsoft, since they have to certify. This was supposedly going to be in the "next few days." But then the next sentence says the patch was "already at Microsoft." Presumably the first sentence meant "make it available to the public" in the next few days. But I find the ambiguity interesting in light of the issues that have cropped up lately. Likewise, notice it's "we" (i.e., Rockstar) that "expect a speedy approval." Microsoft didn't promise them this, I'm willing to bet. This was just thrown out there to satiate the already pissed-off game players. What that statement has done, of course, is make many people jump down Microsoft's throat, assuming they're the bad guys here. Regardless of whatever people feel about Microsoft, it's somewhat silly to blame them for a statement that Rockstar made, especially when we're not entirely sure when exactly Rockstar delivered the patch to Microsoft. I know what we were told, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily true (any more than a "speedy approval" is necessarily true). I've said it before and I'll say it again: Rockstar has really managed to be their own worst enemy here, not just in terms of the release but in terms of how they've communicated with the consumers. Ok, I'll explain: RockStar sucks, Microsoft sucks. So I made "iSuck", because of the Apple campaing with the iPod and iLife and iChat and ish*t stuff, you know?
