Lurf
Hey I´ve tried the commandline.txt which did remove restriction, but the the fact that vsync is off doesn´t help me at all (I suppose vsync is off because it´s in the commandline.txt, but is there a way to make sure? Should I watch for "frame tearing"?). The fact that the restriction"s are gone did however help me. I couldn't set texture quality to high before. I can now, and here's the weirdest thing of all. GTA tells me to turn down the graphics settings to make it run properly, but when I play I get pretty much the same FPS as with texture quality on medium, and no problems with textures appearing in from of my eyes. I think I've never seen a game which is less tweakable than this ROFL! It seems that no matter what setting I use the FPS pretty much remains the same (except maybe drawing distance en detail distance, which I find have only very marginal effects on looks above values of 15-20). Currently I run between 25 and 35 FPS. My system: C2D E6400 @ 3Ghz 4 Gig 6400 Ram 8800 GT OC 512 MB Vista Sp1 Nvidia 180.84 drivers Settings: 1600x1200 High Highest 15 15 25 3 I'll think I will leave the page file stuff alone, because I don't wanna mess anything up and I'm beginning to believe very little can be done to alter the performance of this game other than buying a quadcore. Thanks anywayz for this thread! LOL that a "how to gain fps" thread gave me extra visual quality "for free". Kurgen
now when i added the crack i get this securom thing when i try to start gamre up normal cannot open security file also hen i use the crack i get the dos window and it says error can start So... er... stop using the crack? Why use it anyway? Very few people have reported any benefit from it, and many of those are questionable to say the least.

oftbc
Not sure what else I can do I. Ive tried all of the recommendations and still find the game unplayable. I can run the game but it's very jerky which ruins the game play. I started off with this Statistics Average FPS: 10.28 Duration: 37.63 sec CPU Usage: 42% System memory usage: 87% Video memory usage: 89% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1440 x 900 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: Low Render Quality: Low View Distance: 32 Detail Distance: 70 Hardware Microsoft® Windows Vista" Ultimate Service Pack 1 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Video Driver version: 175.19 Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz And managed to get this Statistics Average FPS: 13.81 Duration: 37.37 sec CPU Usage: 45% System memory usage: 88% Video memory usage: 85% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1440 x 900 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: High Render Quality: High View Distance: 32 Detail Distance: 70 Hardware Microsoft® Windows Vista" Ultimate Service Pack 1 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Video Driver version: 180.84 Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Cozmas
I originally posted this as a response to someones thread, but it occured to me that it might be useful to many people: Hi, I have an 8600 gts and I have some tips for you. First of all, my rig: AMD X2 6000+ 2 Gigs of DDR 800 8600GTS 256MB Windows XP Pro fully updated. I'm running at 1024x768 with textures set at medium and renderer at high, view distance 32, detail distance, 50, shadow density at 8, and traffic density at 45. My average FPS is in the mid 30's (34 average on benchmark). Some may think "BLASPHEMY!" but its actually really easy. Only 3 steps: 1. Add the console command "-novblank" (this turns off Vsync, you;ll gain alot of frames). You may also want to add "-norestrictions" so as to allow you to change your settings as you please. [see footnote] 2. Download Nvidia's beta gta iv optimized driver 3. crack the game to skip all securom protection (this nets most people 10-15fps)[i own a legit copy, I just hate securom, it slows stuff down]. I won't say more than search fed0r As for cracking, it is in fact legal if you own the game. I didn't pay $50 dollars to play at 5fps. The amount of protection applied to GTA:IV hurts customers, not pirates; the pirates cracked it 2 days after release and us paying customers are left with a shoddy product. PS: Running games in XP as apposed to Vista usually nets a few FPS, especially on older systems. Command line footnote: To add command line options to any version of GTA:IV make a file called commandline.txt, add all of the command line options you want to it, and place it in the GTA:IV directory. It will be automatically executed when you start the game. Can i ask where to find this 'Crack' ?
CharmingCharlie
Ok if you need to ask why I am closing this thread then might I remind people that discussion of cracks on this forum is against the rules. I am disgusted no one has reported this thread sooner.
