Shabox
Now I have this - This game is evil. I think I'm going to cry. Jjaj...I can understand ur frustration i've tried all the methods with changing the drivers and so on and nothing solved the problem. But DONT GIVE UP! What DID worked for me ( and i really thank so much thaCURSEDpie who posted that here! ) was the following.. just create a txt file in your GTAIV directory named commandline.txt and write this on it: -norestrictions -nomemrestrict -novblank -percentvidmem 100 -availablevidmem 256 (here goes your video card memory, mine is 256MB) If the game doestn start (it happens to me when i have -novblank) just show credits and then crash to desktop, you have to restart the game (not GTA Social Club) just press play, wait until it crashes, if it crashes close the black window, and repeat the process. Sometimes it takes more restarts sometimes it works the first time but when it doesnt crash and i play i can see all the textures and fell the slowleness that i didnt fell before! I dont know if you have tried that but i hope it works for you and for all!
relliksoul
im using that trick aswell, already got rid of texture problem, but now i can play in full gfx aswell, framrate cool, my only problem now is the pop up when i turn around, and no AA, and just to confirm, im using new driver (nvid) and still cant force AA p.s i realize my solution will only work for some, the others, and i do still suffer from some small texture issues, we will have to wait for rock to fix the mem leaks. marinexx
downclocked it to its default value but no chance still msiisng texture. i guess it might be rivatuner though i played the game quite a while without any problem with rivatuner installed on my system but then again some posts reported rivatuner might be the problem Try this Step 1) Go to “Add and Remove Programs” within the Control Panel. Scroll through the list of installed programs and look for any third-party driver performance tuners that may have been installed previously. Step 1a) If you find any of these performance tuners open the application and reset driver values back to default. This is very important! Do not uninstall this program before you revert the changed values. Step 1b) Now close the program and uninstall it. Step 2) Go to “Add and Remove Programs” within the Control Panel. Scroll down the list of programs and remove any program with NVIDIA or ATI in the name. Step 3) Reboot your machine. Step 4) Download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card from one of the following locations: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us or http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and save them to your computer. Step 5) Run GTA IV If your textures are still not loading in then you may have residual files from uninstalled drivers left on your machine. In order to fix the former, we recommend that you take the following steps: Step 1) Find a reputable tool that is known to clean files leftover from driver tuners. You can search for these on the Internet. Step 2) Uninstall your display drivers again. Step 3) Reboot your machine. While booting up, hold F8 until prompted with the Windows Advanced Options menu. Choose to enter Safe Mode. (Newer computers may require you to press F8 multiple times before being prompted). Step 4) Once in Safe Mode, setup the program found in Step 1 to search for display drivers. Run the appropriate cleaning option. Reopen the tool and make sure that no other display driver files are found. Step 5) Install the latest drivers that you downloaded earlier. Step 6) Reboot your machine and load Windows up normally. Step 7) Play Grand Theft Auto IV. This is the fix that rockstar posted that works for some people Source: http://www.rockstargames.com/support/gta4p...IDIA_ISSUES.doc thanks for the reply im gonna try it immediately did it work`? unfortunately nope. in fact it seemed to work but after a couple of minutes textures magically dissapeared in middle of the game...as it happened before. think im gonna give it up and wait for a patch or a fix or anything that will solve this f*cking problem

foxfire29
Using that guru 3d driver cleaner in safe mode then not going to nvidia for my chipset referance drivers but instead going to my mobo site for the nforce drivers + the new beta driver appear to have helped, I cant believe this thus far, running the game on high render quality, medium textures @ 1024 with the following command line "D:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions -nomemrestrict -novblank -maxmemm 256 -percentvidmem 100 -width 1024 -height 768 Seems to have made a differanceIm running a amd x2 6000 and a nvidia 8600GT with 2 GB corsair, I also went into the registry and cleaned out all the sh*t from run and run once and did msconfig to stop stupid apps like steam, running silent. Plus followed instructions on here to the letter, ow in nvidia control panel for gta4launcher I set max prerendered framews to max, I dont have a clue what that does so not sure if it made a different, I have made an assumption in regards to what it does but Im not going to state what that is as it is probably sh*t wrong But rockstar its a small differance dont think that gets you of the hook for optimising your code as the lighting and textures arent out of this world so please make optimisation number 1 in a patch, also for once it would be nice if some thought went into how you can make it faster for people with mid range cards like 8600GTs etc rather than for just an 8800, people may flame me but look the lighting and textures aint nothing special and it runs worse than it should, even on many high end cards, that tells me clumsy lighting algorithms, memory and resource hogs. This port needs work heck its like the game is running on a xbox emulator or something! Edited December 7, 2008 by foxfire29

eboskie1
You know they have been advertising how GTA4 for pc will have better graphics/enhancements than the 360. New high resolution technology brings Liberty City to life with even more stunning graphical detail "The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC. The game looks and plays beautifully on PC and we can't wait for people to play it." Sam House Have they tried playing this on the most common pc setups? I mean this texture problem can be reproduced time and time again how did they miss this? Now this isnt the fist relesae that had these types of issues that should have been fixed way before release. But I hold rockstar pretty high so I expect thier products to work as advertised from day one. I know there will be bugs but none of them should be as bad as this. Play at 800x600, no. That is not the way this game was advertised and is meant to be played. If you meet specs you should be able to play at that quality. These ppl that have high end systems are having the same problems as ppl with e8xxx e6xxx, 88xx, 86xx etc. Iv scoured the boards like many ppl and have tried for hours to get it to work from deleting drivers, reinstalls, updates yada but still havent found any real solution. Some of your suggestions work for some ppl but I call that luck. If there is one thing Rockstar needs to put in their next patch it better be a fix for this texture issue/issues. I will not play at 800x600 or any lowering settings then what is recommend for my system. Am I in denial like some ppl say to others, no I just want my damn game to work like they said it would. Fix this quickly please. BTW I do appreciate ppl on these boards trying to help out. Above and beyond if you ask me but really this is something consumers shouldnt have had to troubleshoot at all. supermortalhuman
If you die without doing all that it works... or simply alt tab and go back into the game, works. I forget the cause, but I fixed it when I used ATi without crippling my settings.
