Instead of going through all this trouble you might as well just use this..

Could you possibly be any MORE tacky with that comment?

Spam elsewhere please. Like your own topic. sarcasm.gif

@aru: works like a charm, I was able to dial down the bloom to a more tolerable level. Cheers! smile.gif

I was merely posting that because i see many people have problems with the stuff listed in the first post of this topic, what is wrong with that? Am i not allowed to help out people in other peoples topics?

"Helping out other people" would be along the lines of asking what kind of problem they are having, what steps they have done, and perhaps having experience with the software in question. All you did was say "don't bother, go to my topic instead."

See the difference? TACKY. And a little rude too.

I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets

Hey,

do u guys have problems saving key assignments after applying a Mod?

I just modded files.txt, filelist.pak and the loadingscreens_pc.dat (properly), and now it's not working with the assignments anymore. - reproducable.

strange thing is: as long as I don't mod any file like the loadingscreens_pc.dat (and updated corresponding part of files.txt), key assignments work.. (but I have done, say, the initial mod what magic also does)

Anyone?

Maybe just re validate in magic IV. otherwise.

reinstall- patch - then magiciv validate.

If you were using it before you applied the patch.

Ok, i still need help. Well after my fresh reinstall and applying the patch, i ran MagicIV. I first validate and veryfied the files, blahblah. So i went into my GTA IV directory, made backups of the original files i just want to mod (made backup of handling.dat, and filelist.pak and files.txt just incase wink.gif ). So, i put aru's filelist into my pc/data folder, replacing my original one. i then went back into my gta IV directory and edited my files.txt and edited the lines file.txt and filelist.pak to have .magic at the end (ex:filelist.pak.magic) so it can read the magic files. This was a test, so i can see if GTA IV reads the magic files since the magic files "fools" GTA IV that those are the original files. So i ran GTA, command prompt showd, then nothing. went back to files.txt, deleted the .magic extention on the filelist.pak, tried again, nothing. Went back, deleted the .magic extension on files.txt, tried again, nothing. To fix all of these things, i had to put my original filelist.pak files back to the pc/data folder so i can run my GTA IV (in which it did smile.gif ). For just an experiment, i went back to edit my files.txt and put the .magic on the files.txt line located at the bottom, saved, ran the game, but nothing. Looks like if i put the .magic extension at the end of a line the game wont run, the mofo wants the original files. f*ckin hell Rockstar, you made this game almost impossible to mod tounge.gif

i <3 the easy way ! maybe you could focus the 1st post more on that ? so that newbs like me dont get confused to much LOL. and its always a good idea to make a back-up of the hole gta folder b/c that saved a sh*tload of time since i managed to muck it up several times.

anyways thanks verry much aru ! icon14.gif

Updated first post with some info on the GTAIV 1.0.2 patch.

In summary, only a hacked filelist.pak is required for GTAIV 1.0.2. The magic patch is not necessary to run the game with modified files.

That certainly seems to be the case - how weird is that!?

So on the one hand they have made it easier - which is brilliant and the kind of moves they should be making - yet on the other I heard that the car handling file is no longer used and is now hardcoded.. sad.gif

Hopefully they haven't hardcoded a lot of the other files..

Like Aru said, you need to repatch the filelist.dat.

well, i use Xliveless (new version) on 1.0.2 and the game use my handling.cfg instead of the hardcode.

so maybe we just need to modify the filelist again to make it use the handling.cfg file instead of the hardcoded.

So let me get this straight;

I run the new magic patch (after reverting then installing 1.0.2), which only modifies filelist.pak- then I can simply use any modded .cfg afterwards?

That's it?

So there is no more .orig. files, you can just edit files and back them up to a safe place on your own? wink.gif

Is it true? Say it is so?

Hey guys I don't know how but it worked for me. Just try to copy them over some times, and you might get it to work...

Proof: my coquette has a velocity of 320 Km/h and it crashes like hell since I turned the damage multiplier to 2.7

I have the Realistic Handling Mod installed on GTA IV 1.0.1.0 and I want to install R*'s patch 1.0.2.0. But I'm not sure if I must download it because of my mods.. sad.gif

Is this what I'll have to do?

  • Download and install R* patch 1.0.2.0
  • Download the Magicpatch for 1.0.2.0 and read in the readme that you'll have to restore the original files. So I restore the .magic files with the original MagicIV 1.0.1.0 program.
  • Then I install MagicIV 1.0.2.0.
Now, do I still have my Realistic Handling Mod installed, or are all handling and car mods now incompatible with 1.0.2.0? Or do I have to reinstall the mod?

This is why I am not sure about installing R* patch 1.0.2.0 wink.gif

Thx, Dvt
