Help with Grand theft Auto IV PC

I have got a problem with running it: GTAIV crashes after two lisense screens (somertimes) and always at the moment of game starting (after the loadscreens). What shoud I do? (I have got WinXP 32x SP3)

As you can see it uses a lot of my VRAM, I spoke to another guy with the HD4870x2 'single card' and his benchmarks only used half of his VRAM and got better results than me, he had his processor clocked to 3.4 or 3.6. (I have mine clocked at 3.2) These cards have 2GB Vram, but the game does not pick it up (It's not SLI, it's a single monster card) so there is definately a memory resource problem that can be fixed, I hope. I am going to try and OC my processor more but it seems to me that the game is using too much resource.

During the game. After the new drivers, it is slightly better but still unplayable. I think my system should at least get 20 fps, where I have seen others with weaker specs perform much better? The fps is just low basically. Haven't had any texture or pop-problems, it can just get very low, below 10 fps in most spots except interiors and or beaches. I have the latest direct x.

me too.

when show (i have italian language, the message is like this) "press HOME when you play for connect to LIVE" the game crash, sometimes after first legal screen, sometime after the second. I have tried maybe 50 times and the game load correct only one time, with all its problems (low FPS with all settings low,etc...) maybe a miracle.

E6750, 4 GB ram, Asus 8800 GT, Asus P5KC motherboard, vista 32bit. Vista is original, GTA4 also. I installed it, but launching the game, it quits and vista says something like that: gta4 stopped, and trying to find a solution for this problem. I reinstalled the system (vista, drivers etc.), nothing changed. What should I do?

 

Of course, SP1 is on, .net framework 3.5 either. Other games such as Crysis warhead, WiC work properly. I can not launch the game, but I don't get any error message from the game, only this general windows message.

Try to change the priority in task manager.

Press ctrl+alt+delete, click "processes", run the game, find LaunchGTAIV.exe, (you have to do this quick, before the game starts), right click on the LaunchGTAIV.exe, set priority to high, close task manager.

I managed to run the game smoothly on a single core processor thanks to this.

I am not having any graphic problems except for shadows... On the other hand i am really annoyed and this is to do with connection

 

I set up a windows live id and done the whole lot, when i try to connect to any server i get disconnected! Saying "You have been removed from the game" It started working again but happened again.... is it because rockstar hosts the servers or sumthing?

Problem now fixed for me. Loaded the 180.70 beta driver modded for M cards. Been testing for past few hours...tested saves, loads and new games. All fine.

 

Frame rates ranging from 20-30fps on medium settings. I'm happy with that.

Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit, 3gb RAM

The new driver for nVidia (180.84) does not solve a problem with textures issue! Tested on GeForce 7600GS/GT and 7900GS, i hope will be next patch or driver for this series of cards.

I can't play Grand Theft Auto 4 because i can't see any textures!

Hey rockstar....my maain problem atm is low fps and my game hangs on the pause menu if paused to long and game resets randomly durring gameplay. when this occurs i sually have to hard restart and i managed to open task manager and it said i was using 1.5GB of page file. i got E6750, 9800GTX+ 512mb, 2GB RAM

I experience this issue while playing the game. The issue is that while driving, certain textures just disappear. Sometimes it's only the road but people and cars show. Other times, it's only the sidewalk and the road, people and cars are visible. Another issue is that I receive phone calls and answer it but nobody talks, then I press the Esc key and go back into the game and then they talk. This also happens when I drop a NPC off after a mission. I drop them off and they don't get out or speak until I press Esc and go back into the game.

Thank you so much for the update. I hope you are keeping a tab on all the errors which are popping up here. My main concerns right now are:

 

- Shadows

- Anti aliasing

 

I hope the patch is released by the end of this week.

I agree with this one. Shadows look horrible and there is no option to change the level of anti aliasing.

 

One other thing I would like to mention. I don't know how many people have this problem but I use caps lock for sprinting instead of left shift. I change the sprint key to caps lock and every time I quit the game and restart, it changes automatically back to left shift. So it doesn't save the controls I want. I don't know whether this happens with other control keys as well but this one keeps changing back to left shift. I don't think this is a hardware issue.

1: you can stop social-club activating on startup by rightclicking the icon in the tray and selecting the appropraite option.

 

2: unfortunately, both apps are compulsory and are needed , or the game will simply not start.

Im struggling with missing textures and tiny FPS, even with 800x600 resolution and minimum settings.

 

I bought the game via Steam, if that would help.

How can i make my saves work after reinstalling windows? I tried to backup C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games and then place it back after reinstalling, but that didn't work.

PS I use offline Games For Windows profile.

I am VERY disappointed with GTA IV and Rock Star. I have been a fan of GTAs and played every single one of them till now.

 

1. Paid euro 45 for it in Europe

2. Installed SP1 on my Win Vista JUST FOR THIS GAME

3. My system crashed during SP install and took me 5 HOURS to reinstall vista, read that sp1 is a disaster zone for all

4. Tried it on my Win XP PC, had to install SP3

5. The first SP3 crashed during install so I have got another one and took me 5 hours in total: reg-sys-HDD backup/download/install

6. After 2 days got GTA working just to realize u need million other things to run e.g. social club/silly win live tool to SAVE you GAME AND GET THE DIVIDENDS.

7. ROCK STAR made friends with Microsoft and that really complicates things not to say that pisses a lot of us off. Win is only good for Games and

that is the only reason I have it. It is useless for anything else real-time/simulations/etc. If it becomes even more complicated than it is to simply save a game without Microsoft knowing about it then I am sorry I have to give GTA up. If there are no games Win will disappear . This was a massive effort for me just to run a bloody game. It is not worth it.

8. I have returned the game, got my money back and ended my GTA era ... maybe it is time to give up games altogether...and do something more

educational...like learning Linux for a change. I will play GTA again when it runs on Linux

 

I hope I wont meet any of the Rock Starts while I am in Toronto next year ...I am gonna be tougher than Harper
