I got a good deal on ATI 4870 1GB, so I swapped my old 4850 512 meg in the hopes it would resolve my issues with the game.

No such luck, I get a RESC10 error, even if game settings are around 700 megs memory used. Disgusting, is what it is...

Yep that's your problem. Your card only supports DirectX 9.0B whereas IV requires a video card with full DirectX 9.0C support.

Do i need to get a new card or is there a way arround this?

You can try bipasing it but doubt it's going to work, look on Google

How would i bypass it? This dd3d50 error seems to bug alot of guys on the forum.Have anyone manage to solve the problem in this area

You can't really bypass it as the game can only use DirectX 9.0C and your card just can't give the game support.

A new card is the only way I'm afraid.

The issue has been there since the POS came out.. Turn off Clip Capture while in game play, then restart the game and it doesn't happen nearly as fast as it does with the POS option turned on.

At least in my case that doesn't help, clip capture has been off the whole time. whatsthat.gif

Man I keep hearing that from everyone I tell to switch it off but, yet it helps my setup.... That is just odd. Well what driver are you using if it is 9.1 go back to 8.12 hotfix and make sure the clip capture is still turned off to be safe after switching. The 9.1 was crashing my game after five minutes switched back and issue went away.

Ok thanks, will have to try those. My drivers are 9.1.

EDIT: Nope, didn't help. In fact the game crashed even earlier, right after I loaded a game and got out of the house to the street. It doesn't seem to matter if I use as little as 400 / 1000 of memory, a resc 10 or black screen ensues.

I will try to re-install the whole game again, and see what that does. And maybe try some of the memory related tweaks out there, but I am getting a strong feeling this game just won't work with my PC no matter what I do.

Guys, no Voodoo magic will not help anyone with GTA 4, since this game absolutely have no good resource\memory managment, this game really should use less than 512 mb of VRAM on maximum settings, there are not so many resources that cost cuch a lot of MB of VRAM.

On medium settings (identical to XBXO 360 version) in 720p it should not "Eat" more than 256 mb of VRAM but it require x1.5 more RAM than it should.

Toronto just have bad programming skills, engine in current stage is MEMORY TRASHER - SYSTEM HOG, game not removing unused data from RAM, wasting a lot of RAM and VRAM on really unnecessary sh*t, thats why memory leak happening, thats why game requirements higher that CRYSIS have.

The only way to make game smooth and not such a resource hungry and to get rid of all these errors - is to f*cking force R* Toronto to rewrite a lot of engine`s sourcecode lines and fcukin optimise god damn game.

That is really f*cked up. I am guessing you have done all windows updates including service pack(s) "can't remember what OS you are using sorry", Flash Player most recent release, Direct X updates, I would install all this after installing the game as that is what I did.. I figured if you install the game after updating this stuff it will just write right over top of the newer code with the older code example, Direct X.. That is about all I have knowledge of, counting the things I just mentioned to you.. You have drained me dry man. tounge.gif I would seriously try the direct x thingy though, that might be your issue as well. If I remember correctly, I think I had way less issues after doing the direct x updates.

Hello guys,

i actually have a really crazy problem.

Since the Upgrade to Windows 7 64bit Beta my GTA IV just run lower (outdoor: 10-25 fps on the streets, in water or in the sky until 40 fps) than earlier with XP SP3 (outdoor: 18-30 fps)

And there comes the mysteriously problem: Between the highest resolution (1680x1050) and the lowwest there only is a difference with maximum 5 fps. The same with the Drawdistance, detail, vehicle density, etc.. (all on 1 or all on 50 or so: just a few fps difference)

I am using the new 182.06 driver (earlier I used the 185.20).

My system is showed in my signature

Please help sad.gif

I would be glad..

(and sorry for my bad english)

I've seen some people posting things which might suggest that GTA IV's 64-bit support is either nominal or downright poor.

I can't confirm it myself, since I'm on a 32-bit system.

Your'e ok, it is kinda hard to explain why it doesn't really pick up the whole 2GBs. I will tell you this though, it is normal. I thought the same thing when I first got my two cards crossfired, I was like why isn't it showing the whole 2GBs? It is normal. Even like I said if you have a dual GPU card, it is still essentilly crossfired or slied and thus you wil still only see 1GB showing up.

ok hey guys i got a problem:

I have Asi-loader (latest) and FileCheckFix, both from Alexander I also got Alice.

None of the mods I downloaded worked. i followed the instructions and I searched on the internet for a solution, like a hole day ...

So this is pretty annoying , i have also a picture of gta IV directory, but i dunno how to upload this, ... maybe some1 can tell me. i got it here on the desktop.

Yesterday I found out something: all the files I put in the gta IV main directory didnt crash the game, dsound.dll does.

This is what i put in the main dir:

-> Alice

-> FileCheckFix.asi

-> lualib.dll

-> lua.dll

-> Alice.asi

if I put DSOUND.DLL there, too - the game wont start. I do have tried starting the game with admin rights etc., i made a backup of the gta IV main dir. folder i really dont know what to do, spark IV does work, i can have a look at the .wdr and .wtd files and all that stuff, but if i replace sth, the game crashes after a few seconds.

I have got vista 32 bit version gta 4 worked properly everything all right, but when i started trying to add mods, this happens... SO HOW CAN I ADD MODS WITHOUT CRASHING THE GAME .... thanxx 4 help i really need some.

What mem restrict number should I use? My video cards are two 4870 1GB cards in crossfire and I have 4GB of memory on a 64 bit vista install if that matters. Thanks to whom ever answers me.

You are very welcome.

On a side note though. Well I just did the whole memrestrict spiel and I noticed something. Now instead of it eating into my memory for my system, it just runs out and keeps running out and refreshing that little bit of memory that it frees up when it runs into the restriction wall.

You can actually see it is running out and clearing a little and so on. The buildings and what not, take like 5 seconds to load when looking around in circles. I bet the people that are able to run the game fine actually have this little feature working on theirs and thus why there are people that say, "I can run the game without a leak but, my buildings and what not take thirty seconds.. to load".

I think I am on to something here..

My displayed memory in the graphics options is now down to 1011 from 1024 sly.gif

Anyword of an up and coming patch? Its starting to get desprate...

Nope but, this is getting very old and now that I see the full issue and understand it a little better, I can't believe how bad they really did screw this thing up..
