For GTA IV, who's better 180.84 vs 181.20. I'm guessing 181.20, but i'm asking cuz on nzone they said that 180.84 is optimized for GTA IV.

I would say the 180.84 was a little better then 181.20 I found the game still stutterd but not quite as much when i was running 181.20 & after installing the lasest update(or rather backward date) the game bombs out even more & a lot faster talk about going one step forward seven steps back angry.gifsuicidal.gifangry.gif

Hey guys,

I recently bought GTA 4 off of steam for the PC and i was hoping to get right up and around to playing it but I've had some issues trying to get it started once it was installed. So first I successfully installed RGSC and updated it no problem, and made an account. And then, looking at the news feed I recently downloaded and installed the update. The problem is that once I installed Games for Microsoft Live, whenever i try to open up GTA 4, it tells me that I need Windows Service Pack 3 or higher to proceed. Therefore I went on the microsoft website, and downloaded the SP3 (making sure I had SP2 installed first) and installed it. Then, immediatley after i installed SP3, my computer rebooted, and was unable to get to my main home screen no matter what I tried to do. Therefore, I started my computer in safe mode and uninstalled the SP3. When I restarted my computer, it was completely fine again. So I'm wondering if anyone can help me - my GTA 4 won't open without sp3, but with sp3, my computer won't turn on properly. What do i do???

Maybe your computer was unable to get to your main home screen because you are using a cracked version of Windows? I don't know...

However, there was a trick to make your computer think that you've got Service Pack 3 installed even if you've got only Service Pack 2, but I can't remember how it worked.

Try searching on the forums...

Good luck!

I have a problem with flickering textures and also with disappearing and repapering textures. I get the disappearing and repapering textures usually when driving. It would happen all of a sudden; a texture block on the road would raise and be covering my car then disappear. The flickering texture happens all the time with different objects in the game.

Any fixes????

That sounds like something you should contact Microsoft customer support about. They would be more capable of providing an answer.

Hello everyone,

Since the acquisition of a gtx 285, I can't play GTA anymore. I had an ATI 4870 (512 MB), and had no problem with this game.

So I swapped my ATI against the new nVidia, and tested a performance, GTA crashed in about 10 seconds with a nice RSC10 fatal error and back to windows desktop.

I modified texture quality from high to medium, and was able to perform a test, without crash.

Unfortunately, if I want to continue my saved game, it freezes after 2 or 3 minutes, stutters one or 2 times, then a black sreen appears and I can't do anything other than a reset.

Does anyone know where this problem comes from? notify.gif

I tested with other games: The Witcher, Devil May Cry, or even 3DMark06, and had no problem, all are perfectly smooth.

Here is my config:

Windows XP SP3

motherboard P5W-DH deluxe (latest bios: 2801)

[email protected] Ghz

4 GB RAM Corsair PC 6400

Alim modu82 Enermax 625W +

gtx285 graphics card (latest drivers: 181.22)

Sound Card SB X-Fi

And the stats provided by the successful GTA performance test:

Average fps. : 52.50

Time: 37.08 sec

CPU utilization: 83%

Using system memory: 54%

Using video memory: 64%

Graphic parameters

Display Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz)

Texture Quality: Medium

Quality Report: Max.

Resolution thoughts: Very High

Water Quality: Very High

Shadow Quality: Very High

Depth of field: 24

Distance Details: 34

Depth of Field: Off

Vertical sync: Off

If anyone has any idea on how to correct this problem, I'll be very happy.

Hello, if you haven't done anything to clean your registry and your system files of every last, leftover entry from the ATI card, then this may help you out a great deal.

Grab Driver sweeper, or Driver cleaner pro, from the guru3d website, and follow the instructions to the letter. Mainly by uninstalling the game in add remove programs, and then, uninstall the Nvidia driver the same way. Then reboot to safe mode. Then run the cleaner program in safe mode, choosing first the Nvidia and then the ATI driver files to clean. Reboot your PC and reinstall the 188.22 driver, or whichever current whql driver is available at the nvidia site. I hope you know how to install your drivers, because I'm tired of typing. wink.gif Lastly, you can reinstall GTA4 and reboot. Then install the 2nd title update patch, and I'll bet you the game will run great. I always do the same procedure when I update drivers for my Nvidia GPU's because it's the only way to be sure there is no conflict between older, and newer files and registry entries.

Both of those cleaner programs work pretty much the same way, so choose the one you like. Read the instructions, and you can't go wrong.

Good luck Brohiem wink.gif

Wait! I just did notice you have a creative xfi. Make sure you have the very latest driver update for that card, because your freezing issues could be caused by their older and extremely crappy drivers. Trust me..... update the driver..... turn.gif

The new patch fixed all kinds of issues for me. Thanks for a KILLER game R* icon14.gificon14.gif

Thank you for your answer, mrdak

Sorry for the long time, but I had big troubles with my computer. I finally reinstalled windows, and GTA IV works correctly with my new clean installation.

Please add more protection to the next patch and MAKE SURE that it causes more problems instead of fix them.

Make sure to spend most if not all of your time trying to combat cracking teams instead of helping out people who actually bought your game.

Razor1911 and the likes love a challenge, so the more protection you add, the more they'll concentrate on cracking it and make the whole process a lot faster smile.gif.

I have a quad core Q9400 running at 3.3Ghz and Nvidia's 285GT. No problems with the performance; the game runs smooth.

Except that is if you want to play the game for more than five f*cking minutes.

Then it will randomly loop whatever sound is playing, the screen will go black and a few seconds later Windows pops up a little message saying GTAIV.exe has crashed.

Doesn't seem to make a difference what settings I have the graphics at; whether it's in windowed mode or not; or if I set the availablevidmem to 0.8

What a travesty — I think your quality manager needs a quick punch in the junk.

I ve been reading the forum for hours but cant find a similar problem like mine.

When i start the game, only a few screens appearing at the begining video (with some graphic problems like the ship disappearing) and then suddenly my pc restarts itself. I tried to pass the video and the game started once but, after a few seconds later (while im driving to the roman's apartment) same restart thing happened again. After that i got the latest update ati catalyst 9.1 but nothing changed. I have a ati x1600 series card and my cpu is an amd athlon 2.4 ghz (not a dual core or smt like that) It happened with minimum graphic settings which it appears green that it means it works fine i guess.

I have no idea if its a graphic card problem, a cpu problem or another different prob. I will be glad if somebody help me adress the issue.

Your CPU is under the minimum system requirements.

A Dual Core is minimum!

But that's not the reason for the restarts.

The_Cheese_Man

His hardware is probably so underpowered to run the game, it overheats. And when either the CPU or the GPU overheats, the computer gets restarted to prevent any damage.

I dont think my system is that much underpowered to cause an overheat. If i give an example, i'm playing Fallout 3 almost perfectly. Same about EA Sports Games. You can be right if i try to go with high graphic settings, but as i said before i tried the game with minimum settings which my system can handle with. Also if its an overheat problem why it happens at the very begining of the game? That doesnt make much sense in my opinion.

Anyway, anybody who have a system like me can help to solve the problem i guess... or if someone over there who can estimate whats going on about it can help, i hope...

Your video card doesn't support DirectX 9.0. You need a video card which fully supports DirectX 9.0 to play IV.

This is why you get that error.

Yep that's your problem. Your card only supports DirectX 9.0B whereas IV requires a video card with full DirectX 9.0C support.
