;/ think i just lack ram and a decent processor

How are the graphics? Are the jagged lines and shadows fixed? What about the texture loading problems?

what i'm wondering

I think we should focus on percentages shown in the benchmark results text file - in my case change is not significant as my graphics card uses already 100% of the memory

Forgot to mention: benchmarking could not complete on my rig before these drivers (also the image looked as software rendered with no skybox), now benchmarking completes normally, and graphic on it looks well rendered. Another thing however is that they did not fix the minimization problem: when the game is minimized and then maximized again, the HUD and menus disappear - this is still happening to me. So for now minimization forbidden

No change for me on an 8800GTX, but then I didn't expect one - already works OK.

I got all my usage figures down a bit, but that's probably because I restarted. I tried to keep everything the same but you never really know.

Im not going to post any screenshots as there are still no reflections (guessing u need atleast 1gb video ram)

And the shadows are still crappy Ive just compaired them to my ps3 and exactly the same so i dunno if they will fix it

If you look at http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_180.48_whql.html these were released on 19th Nov. So either NVidia are just saying these are the latest drivers therefore must be the best or they communicated with R* to get the drivers up-to-date before release. Either way I updated to these before release and have been running ok (not amazing) with a AMD 5000+ (OC by 5%), 3GB RAM and 8800GT.

EDIT: also the documentation for the 180.48 release does not mention GTA IV.

DOES NOT FIX THE MISSING TEXTURE PROBLEM.

And with that, I'm cracking open my bottle of Gosling's Black Bermuda Rum. icon13.gif

The benchmark tool does not give true perspective on the real thing ingame (although i'm fine with avg 22fps - the game still runs smooth). Try marking it with fraps while you are playing to see fps

[Edit] I'm done for tonight, need some sleep. Tomorrow we await optimistically for a patch from R* - its their turn now biggrin.gif

has any1 noticed a performance increase from upgrading 2gig to 4gig ram?

or from 4GB to 8GB?

I just bought 2 gigs extra ram. Noticed only a slight improvement (2-3-4 FPS maybe). My specs:

C2D E6400 @ 3 ghz

4 gig ram

8800 GT OC

Vista SP1.

the latest driver is 180.84, the other way around. as for 25.6fps-guy, if you want playability, that fps-rate is just fine.

specs

9800 gt

amd dual core 4000+

2 gb ram

before: could hardly play, had 8 fps average, was really f*cking annoying and was just about to try to refund the game

now: increased by 5 fps(maybe more, this is based off fraps), running at highest res possible and high render quality. Still had to turn down the settings like view distance, and shadow quality but could care less now that it's finally playable biggrin.gif

couldn't do benchmarks, sorry

Change your view distance to 25. Why are you guys forcing such high view distances, it's killing your performance dozingoff.gif

AA and SLI support will ahve to come from a game patch.

And I'm sure the next official version will have the fixes in this beta, along with some other GTA-friendly fixes or improvments.

But they got it out only 3 days after release - that's pretty damned good.

But I don;t expect a aptch fro R* for a couple weeks. If at all.

Almost forgot: thanks to dnottis!

ah man i was just gonna force myself to go downstairs and chill. i have been losing sleep hours to gta4 since it came out - on top of a hellish work week.

thanks.....now i have to stay up here a bit more to see if these drivers make much of a change for me. i am one of the lucky ones with no real issues. that shadow issue isn't even too noticable in my game

I did that yesterday, from 2GB to 4GB (XP Pro 32bit recognizes 3.5GB) and there was no noticeable change in the performance at all.

Oops, my mistake. After a tiring week at work and a bottle of wine it is an easy mistake. blush.gif
