NVIDIA recommends that you update your system with the following GeForce v180.84 driver for the best experience on Grand Theft Auto IV:

http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_gtaiv_downloads.html

Grab them now!!

Congrats Nvidia Card owners, I hope ATi will do something about the performance problems as well. Let us know if there's any improvement.

it can simply be a communication trick . with nothing real toward GTAIV in it... knowning NV , it wouldnt surprise me.

"nv recommend to use drivers xxx.xx..." doesn't means "nv declare +15% perfs on GTA4 ...

More like 30+%, looking at some of the results. Amazing!

BTW, shadows are still crap?

returned. installed drivers and played game. it won't let me run my unaltered LaunchGTAIV.exe link anymore for some reason (DD3D-something error code). used the edited link, there was some improvement, but i couldn't gauge how much. didn't fix the memory leak, so that lies in R*'s hands solely.

would an nvidia user please report back on any improvement ASAP

PLEASE!

I'm an ATI user, but still interested!

there is no significant improvement with the driver update. we still need some kind of optimization patch.

Downloading now and testing cheers for link up. I wonder if this is set in line for the SLI support patch to come from R* ... wonder if this process of them working on that = opens more and better GPU usage we need.

Julsey52, I would get 4GB of RAM if you are using Vista or XPx64. I'm on XP x64 and my RAM usage gets up over 2.3GB while playing. Get 3GB if you're in XP or Vista 32-bit, since that's most it'll use. 2GB should be OK for XP 32-bit, but definitely 3GB+ for Vista since it maps some of the system RAM as Video RAM when gaming.

Downloading drivers... crossing fingers...

Tried drivers, installed over the old ones.. I see a difference in +5 frames at least and game runs more smoothly now. Shadows seem somehow changed and less buggy. Buggy emerging LOD viev distance content not met yet (however i tested for like 5 minutes only)

How do you get that benchmark report?

And is it possible to get a fps count in the game?

for benchmark, there's an option within the gta4 options menu called Benchmark. run that.

for an active FPS meter ingame, you'll need to install an app called FRAPS.

The benchmark is located on the Graphics options ingame, near the bottom of the list, you should spot it. It runs for ~30 sec and at finish creates a text file in your Documents dir named something like "Benchmark0812xxxxxxx.txt"

Fps can be measured only by fraps for now as far as i know
