Zach
If it helps, when I go in to customize controls and click something to remap a key, then hit RMB, it actually fills it in with "Right Mouse Button (RMB)" instead of the letter on the keyboard I have RMB remapped to in AutoHotkey (the letter 'o'). I tested this to see if it would do the same for me, and yeah, it did. I mapped the RMB to 'W', and in-game holding down my RMB did make me walk forward like I expected, but in the customization page GTA did continue to recognize the RMB. Somehow, even though AutoHotKey is intercepting the RMB and sending a 'W' (I am walking forward), GTA still recognizing the RMB. The GTA engine must have registered it as a HotKey (it's a Windows thing) would be my guess. (Edit: Looking it up, though, this can only apply to keys, not mouse input, so I don't know. (MSDN Link)) Unfortunately, this is beyond my ability to quickly solve for you. I'd recommend going to AutoHotKey's forum and asking there. I'm sure there's a very easy solution; I just don't know what it is. Edited December 6, 2008 by Zach
Zach
Can autohotkey trick GTA 4 into beleiving that left windows and left alt are different keys? I don't see why not.

Zach
I will do exactly that and report back here if I learn anything. Yeah, please do! And note my Edit: above. It's probably not a Windows Hotkey thing like I guessed, so if you say, "Someone suggested it may be a Windows hotkey conflict," you might end up looking silly. Nietzsche's God
I am using a two button mouse with a standard wheel in between. I remember the first time I've had played Battlefront 2 on my first computer and found out how hard it is to get accustomed to the controls. It is as your entire left hand need to be conditioned in a rigorous repetitious manner till you are fully a master of the keys of the keyboard. Practice. Practice. Trust me, it will work if you stick to it.

Phar2Reliss
yeah the new keyboard configuration blows ass chunks down Rockstars throat. You cant map ENTER key for entering and exiting vehicles. You also cannot bind Mouse Buttons past Mouse Button 3 (mouse button 4,5+) I have a Razer Copperhead gaming mouse and I had to use my razer drivers to macro some regular keyboard controls as mouse button 4 and 5. I am how ever able to remap/bind my keyboard controls I dont know why everyone here is having trouble with it USE THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON TO RESET THE CONTROL THEN ENTER THE NEW KEY YOU WANT TO USE. I cant believe Rockstar* messaged you guys telling you cannot configure keyboard controls for the PC version. I would of seriously complained if they didnt let you cuase im LEFT HANDED and I have to change all my controls opposite all the time in all games. YOU CAN CHANGE THE KEYBOARD CONTROLS. Also W A S D isnt very feasible either. I would use E S D F so now I have W,Q,A for extra action buttons to use with your ring finger. I use O K L : buttons on the right hand side of the keyboard. I have so many buttons to use with my ring finger there. I have P [ ] \ ' / keys to bind many things around the Enter key, opens so many more keys to use. I use ' quotation/apostrophe key for my Enter/Exit vehicles now since you cannot use ENTER key no more. I use Spacebar for Sprint. I use Right Shift for Crouch. I use [ left square bracket for Action button. I havent programmed my Zboard Fang gaming pad yet to play the game, they havent added a new config for GTA 4 yet/ when I get to that, Ill have an easier time. Ceano
I think R* is just lazy, in all previous GTA games you could remap all keys and mouse buttons to what you wanted. I have played PC games for over 20 years both professional and for personal entertainment now with the same key and mouse config, so it is a bit hard to re adjust that just because some less intelligent developer thinks that all PC gamers use the same config to play with. Rossiko
i don't know why, pc games always have wasd as the default movement keys, ive never used them in over 10 years of pc gaming, nor do i know any one else that has, it's always the cursor keys mostly. hah i thought i was the only person who used arrow curser keys, seems to make far more sense than wasd.
