SuperAlekZ Posted December 5, 2008 Share Posted December 5, 2008 I was so looking forward to GTA IV to play my brother Nico Bellic Because it's so funny even in the first two missions how they are insulting the people from Albania (I like Albanian people, even if I am from Serbia. It's just a cliché) and how they speak Serbian even if they have a non-serbian accent. Well, but now it isn't really playable, so we should all be pissed! Like they stated in one local gaming magazine - who will know Niko is not talking proper Serbian/Croatia whatever? Not a lot people speak these languages and most of them don't even care. I would've preferred an authentic Serbian myself as well, seeing how they completely failed Russian in CoD4 with obviously foreign (but still good and most non-native speakers might not notice it.. a native ear will instantly notice it's not native) accents and so I know how it feels, ESPECIALLY when there are 120 million Russians and plenty to hire for a voice acting job. Still, remember, it was just easier for Rockstar to get some dude off the market. And at least his accent doesn't sound obviously American or anything. Yeah is true..is not a native speaker is someone who learned some phrasis on our lang...becouse they cannot change the English version and Balkan when Niko is talking lol...you cannot have 2 different voices on same character.. Two easy solutions. 1. they could have hired some Serbian guy and he could give a few lessons to Hollick (or whatever his name was). It's not like he uses more than a few dozen of expressions. And he would get a lot of tries to get it just right. 2. they could introduce through story that Niko is actually a Serbian who's been aout of th homeland for long so he has this skewed accent. Also, at the (stereo)typical Russian accents. Alek, I'm Croatian. And the way Niko speaks isn't Serbian nor Croatian. In the game I'm at 15% and the only thing that ist confirmed untill then ist that he's from former Yuguslavia. But not if he's serbian, bosnian or croatian.
