smoke2000
Hey, Probably been said by other people too, but it worked for me. all signup problems and errors aside. GTA benchmarked 25 fps for me at tex=med , render = high I run at 1650*1050 my pc is win xp 32bit sp3 ANTEC NSK6000 Zwart EN Zilver Behuizing NEC DVD Black DV5800 Point of View geforce 8800 512 mb WESTERN DIGITAL 320GB-KS 16MB SATA300 7200RPM WESTERN DIGITAL 320GB-KS 16MB SATA300 7200RPM INTEL Core 2 DUO E6600 2.40 Socket 775 ZALMAN 120MM ZM-F3 Case FAN ZALMAN Cnps 9700-CU AMD & Intel ASUS P5B P965 Socket 775 3x PREMIUM 1024MB DDR2 PC6400 € 114,90 Antec 550 watt I took someone's advice on the forums and started killing all non-necessary processes. Which got me from 32 processes running to 18. This made me gain +5 fps , so i was now at 30 fps. Since i have a E6600 running at its stock speed of 2.4 ghz, I digged into a few tutorials to learn how to overclock the cpu, which turned out to be incredibly easy. I tried little steps , raising it to 2.47 , 2.52 , 2.6 each time testing the cpu by stressing it with a program called orthos. if it ran stable without errors , i increased it again. Last night I stopped at 2.6 ghz , but today when i get home from work I will increase it to 2.8ghz , perhaps 3ghz. The difference from my duo core at 2.4 ghz to 2.6 ghz gave me another boost of +6fps , so now the game runs at 36 fps , looks acceptably good and runs very smooth , in single player and multiplayer. The jagged edges and funky shadows remain, but I don't think anything can fix that at the moment. I just posted this to give people with a mediocre system like mine (E6600 , 8800GT) some tips to perhaps get gta running at an acceptable rate. If you have never tried overclocking , look up some tutorials, it's not as hard as you might think apparently and GTA seems to have been coded to do several operations on the cpu that are more suited to be done on the gpu, because the increase in fps I got from mildly increasing my cpu can't be explained any other way. Graven
You can also: - disable several services - disable system restore - disable hibernation - clean & defrag registry - clean you HDD and use advanced defragger to place GTA on outer tracks of HDD. - and do lots of more tweaking But average user won´t do this all, and can´t be required. At the end of the day a patch is needed anyway. Still, nice to hear You are satisfied! Edited December 5, 2008 by Graven
smoke2000
Yes , not denying , this isn't the way a game should be released , there's definitely something terribly wrong with the engine. But we all know patching can take a while, so it doesn't hurt to try and get the most out of it in the meanwhile. Because I am someone who gets easily bored with games and by the time patches are released to fix things, it's already uninstalled and thrown away into a closet. Th3 ProphetMan
mediocre system like mine (E6600 , 8800GT) Overclocking is not difficult, its dangerous if not done correctly, so be very carefull and always keep track of the temperature. And how is that mediocre? its about the same as mine, a bit better and i consider mine a good PC still

smoke2000
make sure you test long enough and overclock with small steps at a time though. If your pc does prove to be unstable and crash/blackscreen/randomreboot. Decrease the speed again.
