R* patch confirming CPU usage change?

Since the beginning of this travesty that is "designing GTA around consoles" (2000 onwards), Rockstar North (formerly DMA Design) has become wasted talentable content.

100% Right. Sad.. but Right..

It makes no sense.. The 360 runs on a Xenon (IBM) processor that is effect based off a PocketPC processor from Years ago..

Yet on a quad core box / i7 box we have to "emulate" it...

Cause thats what it feels like... Strip away GTA from your screen and your gonna see NeoRage or some sh*t running in the background.. tounge.gif

I want them to optimize the GPU usage.

In every other game. (COD4, COD5, FarCry 2, etc.) My 9800GT temp hits as high as 90c, usually it sits around 85c when I am in the thick of playing. In GTA IV, the temp maxes out at 75c. Which means the card isn't getting pushed as hard as any other game I play.

Maybe if it was, I (and everyone else) would be getting much better framerates.

Patch lol.  My quad core has no problem.  They recommended quad core for this game and yet their are people complaining their single core CPUs are bottlenecking the game. Hrmm, why would that be???

There isn't going to be a patch to turn a dual or single core CPU into a quad.  LOL - upgrade  tounge2.gif

PATCH LOL! So funny, isn't it?

If you would think a little you'd perhaps get a better meaning of this. I don't really understand how come I fit in recommended specs, yet I lag like hell even on smallest settings? I've tried loads of changes, fixes and done stuff that people have suggested. But nvm that.

aka.. "We cant staff people knowledgeable enough to make our sh*t work"...

Oh but they can. They (Rockstar North) are simply just too busy satisfying Microsoft at the moment - busily developing the XBox 360 downloadable content.

Yes, they are too busy. That's why Rockstar Toronto made the PC version, not Rockstar north. And i assume they are busy too now, trying to fix this.

Firstly, they should seriously add options to reduce even more detail to allow those who have single core to play the game. Afterall alot of players have a single core, and what company is it that doesnt develop for the market. (or support their buyers)

They should add optimizations to a few of their routines, as they are able to check which of them is the strain(s). Maybe that would reduce the need to reduce detail even.

They have in effect shown their buyers what their hardware is worth in a negative way. This is really in opposition of the real market (where games are build for pc's not the other way)

It seems as if they forced improved qualities on the PC version, by listening to the wrong market, or following a deceptive trend. That is the market of Nvidia and co, who propose the future as if its now. Or the internet forums that are unequally more filled by hardcore players. Or a mixture of both ,oh how i love those people.

They should add something we can click on the desktop attached to a steel toed boot screwed under some nimrod's desk at r* that kicks him in the nads everytime we crash or drop below 20fps.

Graphical detail will be processed on the GPU. Euphoria, vehicle physics and animation will be processed on the CPU, and you can't turn that off, otherwise you have no game left.

Yea well i meant like, that NPC bystanders could be reduced. Or processing distance reduced. Like AI is disabled or minimized 100 feet away from you rather than 5000.. imaginary figures.

I realize this is about CPU lol.gif

I bet being able to turn off the over 9000 [sh*tty] shadows I see everywhere would help something...but guess what setting somehow got lost between review copies and the store.

What's the point in turning off shadows if the CPU is the bottleneck?

Yeah it kind of "feels" cpu intensive but remember everything in the game is scripted the same way it was when it was on console...What im saying is it actually feels more like memory leaks/bad driver performance rather than cpu bottlenecked, i mean take a look at your cores through task manager when playing.

Also people have reported weird shadow bugs and water streched bug(drivers), game crashing, laggy/choppy framerates (video memory leak) and 1 fps cutscenes which is what i used to get untill i fiddled with view distance setting dropping atleast to 20 so it utilized less video ram - still unacceptable by any means because it still crashes but at least let's me play it for a bit longer - oh and by the way no sli support yet for any of you wondering.

Yeah good point! i did read somewhere that this was a port from the console versions and rockstar tronto was handling it, If it is then the game itself has been designed to use multi cores each console has 3 or 4+ cores on them, this may be why lower cored Computers are having trouble?

So what rigs arent having any trouble

Doesn't matter, I should have that option anyway. At the very least it should free up some of my gfx card for things that actually matter and also: they look like sh*t. Also needed is the ability to turn off the bloom.

Multi-core support on consoles does not work the same way as multi-core Pc architecture if you where wondering, the xenon cpu (xbox) is actually comparable to higher end pentuim 4 in performance - core 2 duo's and quad's are much faster, easier to code for and more on chip L2 cache rather than a shared 1mb cache and three very simple instruction cores with lack of out of order execution, branch prediction and execution core width - but because xbox is closed box architecture they can specifically program with direct access on a hardware level and a good programmer can add a lot of "trickery" and optimized code.

Sadly some lazy developers use the "brute force" method, which is clearly evident in this game judging by how much vid memory is getting chewed up for slight visual enhancements and the "need" for a quad core which is total shi...
