Best game i have ever played

At the end of the day there are those who are playing it and are satisfied that they can, that by no means means that it isn't f*cked up right now.

It needs it's sh*t seriously sorted out.

 

The upside to it all is that hopefully it will f*ck off enough of the casual gaming muppets and save me from seeing multiple "LIEK!!!! KAN 1 HAVE SOME1 MAYK M3 A SKYL1N3 PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!" request topics in the mod section when the game is sorted, and maybe scare R* into doing better next time in the process too.

For me it is win win so far if it deos.

20 frames/ second on this settings (medium/high).. how can anyone play the game like this many people in this forum are playing the game right now with 15/25 frames.. This is the worst game lauch in pc history!!

Im running it on a Q6600 @ 3ghz, 4 gig, GTX280 and vista 64 and this game is not optimized, People that are getting 25fps seem that its fine but from the previews ive read and screen shots i expected A LOT MORE

Face it R-star FXXked us on this one.

I'm running it on Matrox Triplehead so I can use SLI. Which gives me a gain of 2fps in GTA4... Going from 36 to 38 avg fps in the benchmark at 3840*1024. In every other game, I gain at least 80% at that resolution. I know R* said SLI is not supported, but WHY THE F*CK is it not supported if the game is so demanding? Crytek also said SLI was not supported when Crysis came out, but the fact was that SLI was there, it was only mininaly improved with the patches.

I played multiplayer last night for about an hour. It was a blast, except the game crashed literally every 3 and a half minutes for the entire hour. That's about 10 crashes, I would've had more but you have to factor in times for rebooting when the game crashed so hard I couldn't get back to the desktop.

 

This is what everyone's talking about. It's not just the choppiness, it's game killing bugs. Multiplayer was everything I expected it to be, stealing a pair of bikes and tooling around town was great for the 300 seconds or so I got to experience it.

I played GTA IV (PC) singleplayer first time on Wednesday 3rd December when gamestores had put them for sale. It works okay but could do better. Minium requires passed barely. Anyway I can stand the graphics the computer can run. Playing is little laggy but the main point is almost everything is working somehow. I haven't tried multiplayer at all (and think it hardly works or does it?). Hopefully the upcoming patch will fix most of the problems so far and game-experience might be a little better after that.

 

Compared to other GTA games GTA IV is definitely great one. I mean it contains a lot of new stuff like cellphone, you can break into cars though they're locked in the park (CJ has no brain to break the windows of cars), take cover behind some objects and so on. There's a long list tell about the game's good sides. But over everything the character is amazing. I think Niko is the best GTA character this far and seems like a nice person and exciting past. And what I've seen some parts of the story it sounds good one and reason why Niko came to Liberty City. I can't say this is the best game I've played but one of them.

I cant play it for 5 mins with out it crashing in Vista x64 (4 gig Ram)

Well pall - I´v been waiting for this game since god knows, owning a machine which runs FarCry 2 and Crysis like a dream, only to find that one of the game companies I´ve had the most respect for, rushes their game!

 

If this game could run on my machine, my friends would not see me for weeks, but I´ve paid for crap programming meaning, that I can´t get a framerate beyond 18fps - even at 800x600 which by the way I´v not been playing at since 1998!!!

I don't know if i am just gifted with great knowledge when it comes to optimizing PC (hardware and software vise) or maybe i am just extremely lucky .

 

All this DRM, GFWL, Rockstar Social Club bitchin around ... wtf ... i had 0 (zero) problems with it.

Maybe you guys should just buy console if you find fiddling around PC too complicated.

I realise that many people have problems caused by very very crappy optimization of this game.

But i still think that Rockstar shouldn't be bashed like this, lets not forget that this is their first GTA with this new engine on PC and this was kinda expected, maybe not in these proportions but still.

They already acknowledged that there is bunch of problems and they are working on patching it.

And it's developed by R* Toronto, i think this is maybe their first "huge" project so maybe we should cut them some slack.

 

And noone forced anyone to preorder games and buy them as soon as it hit the shelves.

I hope what I am about to say will come as a small ray of light to you all, rather than an insensitive white-washing of everybody’s problems. I spent a day pulling my hair out trying to get this buggy port to work, chasing one solution after another, having one success at the expense of yet a new glitch... but eventually I am one of the lucky ones. On my modest processor (Athlon X2 4600) and reasonable graphics card (8800gts 320MB) I have this game working better than I ever expected it to. 1680x1050, excellent draw distance, no pop-in, low textures and playable frame-rates (maybe 20-25fps). Undoubtedly Rockstar have made some BIG mistakes porting/building this for PC (i.e. they need far more PC experience and a LOT more time and testing), but when and if you manage to get this working to your PC's full potential then it is a fantastic experience.

 

It might require a solid patch from Rockstar before the average gamer can install this game without a mountain of crap falling on them, but I just wanted to reassure you all that PC game engine will be capable of running it well on even a modest rig... "eventually". Little hope maybe, but hope nonetheless. Personally this thread LINK solved my main problems. Don't hold your breath, because it will only help a minority of you.

 

 

Phew I had to force myself to read this whole topic because frankly all I want to do is get back to playing the game. This will hopefully be the same for all of you pretty soon, but until then do try and remember that despite Rockstar's terribly clumsy attempt, there is still a wonderful gaming experience to be had. You're right MorlockGod, there is undoubtedly a hidden gem of a game underneath all the crappily optimised rubbish we got lumped with, but I have to say, in this day and age, 20 - 25 fps is nowhere near acceptable for smooth gameplay. Obviously concessions have to be made at times to get a balance of visual quality and performance, but anything under ~40fps is (to me at least) not a pleasant experience.

So here i am sitting with the best game i have ever played after reading tons of bad posts here. Bad port, bad multiplayer and so on. And when i fire up the game its the coolest thing ever and the Live system is smooth as silk. Really well done.

 

Graphics are awesome but demanding ofcourse, but if you expect to play this game with a 8600 series card its your fault.

The multiplayer is awesome and has tons of new stuff like new clothing, new models, new weapons and cars.

 

Just wanted to write this thread since so many posts here are bad which must be because the author has a bad system or has downloaded the game.

Not everyone has a modern PC which can run all games, Hardware isn't that cheap

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+, Nvidia 8600 GT 1GB Ram, 2 GB Ram.

I would rate my PC as good Gamer-PC, not perfect, but acceptable.

So i'm able to run Far Cry 2 on 1600x1200 with mid-details, Crysis: Warhead and Call of Duty 5...

But what's up with GTA IV, the graphic looks like in a two year old game and needs a mega pc.

Does Rockstar think all people who want to play this game have or buy a new super Computer? They make me sick

I wanted to buy this game, but now i'm so pissed of the graphic problems and maybe never bought it, when Rockstar don't bring out a patch which makes the game performance better

I have rushed out and brought this game the day it came out.

 

While its not what i hoped it would be it is playable.

 

I play at 1680*1050 at medium settings....the game resets it to this everytime i fire it up.

 

I cant really sign in to the social club and when i do it boots me out.

 

The game runs at 40fps then will suddenly drop to 18 for no reason for a split second but i can cope with that.

textures sometimes take a second to load oh and then they vanish before getting stable.

 

I was able to solve some problems by installing the latest 8.11 ati drivers. textures are now smoother but frame rate still stutters from time to time.

 

What really pisses me off is the fact i have to use keyboard and mouse even for driving!!!! why cant i just plug my logitech pad in and like every moden game either recoqnise it or let me key bind................wake up rockstar this could of been a gamers dream.. now it is just GTA 3 all over again. This is such a poor port that I wonder if rockstar even tried.

 

Oh and I rushed out to Game to buy it for £35 on day of release now 2 days later its £30 because off all the sh*t press it has recieved. talk about twisting the knife

 

Guess I will wait for the patch........and wait again until that is patched.

That's because it's a lie. A bullsh*t excuse for their poor optimisation. If it was intended to be used on computers in five years time, they would release it in five years time (or slightly before then).
