Problems saving my new Keyboard Controls

Recommended Posts

Im having a problem with GTA IV on the PC remembering my new keyboard assigned keys each time i restart GTA IV.

I can load the game up, assign new keys with the keyboard mapping option, change the keys to something more appropiate. Start playing GTA IV fine with my newly assigned keys. Save the game. Exit GTA IV.

However....

When i goto play GTA IV again, i loose all my assigned keys and need to enter them all over again.

This is very annoying.

Anyone know how to sort this or is this a Rockstar Fix only?

Thanks in advance.

Well - I´ve and it seems - many others - got this problem and I´m getting crazy!

It seems so simple and one can´t help wondering why they risk their good reputation?

I´ve got a rig playing FarCry2 on highest and here I´m stuck - not even getting a framerate above 18 on 800x600!!!

I mean - I´ve not played on 800x600 since 1998 or something like that! orly.gif

An extremely large patch is called for ASAP!

You mean you actually found a menu where you can change the key bindings? wow.gif

I am at the point now where I don't even care if I have to set it up every time - where is that menu where the keys can be changed?

I have been looking for it for hours. Seems like the game is not even finished, without this option.

So you gotta set the keys up every time you play? I can live with that, but I can't even find the menu where you can set up the keys, where is the menu to do this?

Mine would do this if I was logged out of the Social Club and Windows Live, and of course my game would crash when I started it up with the Social Club, I found out I could log out of Social Club, start the game, ctrl-esc to minimize it, then login to Social Club, it seemed to remember my controls after that.

really, yours saves them?

I'm wondering if its a vista 64 bit thingy. I'm logged into social club and live but still no luck.

did you make sure you are logged into windows live as well? Maybe it's more live than social.

How are you guys changing the key bindings?

Thats aside from it not remembering - I mean I cannot even see any menu where the keys could be changed, its W to walk forward etc when I want it on the right mouse button. Its A to strafe left when I want it to be left arrow key, its D to strafe right when I want it to be right arrow key.

Under Controls look for something called "Custom Mapping"

My friend seemed too blind to see it yesterday, maybe you are having a similar issue biggrin.gif

PROBLEM SOLVED

Ok i have found a way to save your controls....

When you start the game, make sure you change all your controls before starting the game or continueing from your save point. Basically change the keyboard controls when the menu options are at the bottom of the screen before you connect to Windows Live.

Works fine for me and remembers my controls.

I hope R* fix the grainy shadow effects and the car camera angles so the rear of the car can be seen during turns and spins like in GTA SA.

I'm actually still having this problem, it was working fine yesterday, but today I've had to re-enter my controls 3 or 4 times and each time I've done so before I started a game, so who knows......

I also dont save the game via the hideouts, i just use the auto saves after each successful mission, so it could possibly be saving the game at a hideout will reset your controls.

I have mine working now.

Solution Found

OK guys I found a solution that actually works:

Click “Start” and “Run”. In “Run”, type “msconfig” and then press enter. You should then see the “Startup” tab, with all the programs ticked the ones which will load upon your computer starting up. Just unselect Rockstar Social Club from starting up and save it.
