Rogue
I am going to be updating my computer soon, but as of right now I will have to make do. I was wondering if it requires a processor with SSE2 since I know some games are requiring it now. Right now my system specs are: Athlon XP 3000+ 1.5 GB RAM 6600GT (slightly overclocked) Windows XP

Rogue
That isn't exactly the answer I was looking for. I just don't have the funds right now to upgrade. College tuition comes first.
Rokz0r
what spec is your ram? ddr400? also what AMD latest cpu does your mobo take? seems like you will also need a vid card to cater for it also...
notsofrisk
I guess the question really is.... will it require a CPU with SSE2??? And the answer I can give is.... I simply do not know.
Rogue
My processor is socket A if that tells you anything. My RAM is unfortunately DDR333 (PC2700). If it matters, I have played Crysis (the demo) and my computer ran it just fine, most setting on low, a couple on medium. I just really have to know at this point is if GTA4 requires SSE2 instruction, since that is something the Athlon XPs (I have a Barton core) lacked. Rockstar1
If it matters, I have played Crysis (the demo) and my computer ran it just fine, most setting on low, a couple on medium. Unfortunately, being able to run Crysis doesn't mean much with GTA4. I'll just tell you straight up, I think your chance of running this game on that computer is hopeless. I have a q9550 overclocked to 3.83 ghz 2x xfx gtx280 xxx editions and still get stutter/crashing/frame rate lagging etc. sse2 isn't your main concern nor will it boost performance the way you think... do some research http://www.google.com is you're friend... Rogue
I'm not saying SSE2 will boost performance. Some games require SSE2 to even start the game and I was just wondering if GTAIV was like that, since other games are, such as Dead Space and Far Cry 2. dr.whiz
i just tried installing the game on a system i got at home with the following specs: AMD Dual COre 5600+ 2.8GHz 4GB RAM GeForce 6600GT 256MB Windows Vista 32-bit and yeah, that is not happening. point being, i've tried playing it on the same video card you got, and apart from having the same missing textures bug as a lot of others are having, it's giving me around 4fps on lowest graphics. i just ordered a 9800GTX+ 1GB and will install that as well as upgrade to Windows Vista 64-bit and i'm sure i'll get it going at medium settings with 30+ fps. Rokz0r
ok ill say what iv been saying in other posts = video memory leak...wait for a patch before making drastic decisions. The lack of Sse2 wont let you run games? first time in my life i heard that... what games can't you run?
