rebel_36
if -novblank doesnt work, like for me, try -framelimit 0 used to be on 25 now im somewhere between 27 and 35 R* has always limited the frames in their pc ports cause a lot of code in the console versions was linked to the fps, maybe the framelimit in ivpc isnt a set number but rather linked to a gfx setting? video memory perhaps? idk

Zharay
Same as everyone else here. For those who need clarification: The game does not go past 23 fps AT ALL. Setting to game to safemode (switch that sets everything to the lowest settings possible), turning off audio, and even removing any limiters does not affect this. The only thing I can see why it is doing this would have to be that the game is scaling to the limits of the CPU. Serzhas
Hi guys. I have same problem under Vista (32-bit, SP1), but not under XP (SP2). However, I have found topic about adding commands to "commandline.txt" file and started to experiment with configuration switches. Accidentally I have come to switch -minspecaudio, which caused my FPS being stuck to 23! This took me some time to track this down, since audio configuration switch and FPS isn't in that close relation, IMO. After all I have tried adding/removing this switch several times, see results for yourself... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ commandline.txt contents: -norestrictions -nomemrestrict -frameLimit 0 -fullspecaudio -windowed -width 1680 -height 1050 -texturequality 2 -renderquality 4 -shadowdensity 0 -viewdistance 25 -detailquality 40 Statistics Average FPS: 35.58 CPU Usage: 86% System memory usage: 64% Video memory usage: 92% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: High Render Quality: Highest View Distance: 26 Detail Distance: 41 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 Video Driver version: 180.84 Audio Adapter: SB Audigy 2 Audio [AC00] AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ commandline.txt contents: -norestrictions -nomemrestrict -frameLimit 0 -minspecaudio -windowed -width 1680 -height 1050 -texturequality 2 -renderquality 4 -shadowdensity 0 -viewdistance 25 -detailquality 40 Statistics Average FPS: 21.58 CPU Usage: 83% System memory usage: 64% Video memory usage: 92% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: High Render Quality: Highest View Distance: 26 Detail Distance: 41 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 Video Driver version: 180.84 Audio Adapter: SB Audigy 2 Audio [AC00] AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
Chester04
@Serzhas I've just tried adding -fullspecaudio to command line, works for me too! Thanks
Zharay
Serzhas your the f*cking man. -fullspeckaudio did the trick for me too. Doing a messy test (defragging and running my usual junk) I got 40 fps average indoors! Its about freaking time too, was starting to give up for a fix. Now comes the next question, why audio? I was going to say its Vista's fault for not having DirectSound but some people are getting it with XP. So maybe its a creative problem? Whatever the hell it is, I'm glad I'm done with this problem. Eurogeneraal
Make a text file named commandline.txt in your GTA main folder. Write this in it: -novblank and save it, then you can run GTA IV without Vsync on.
Chester04
@Zharay - maybe it's because of Creative, i'm working on X-Fi Extreme Music with latest drivers, on Vista x64.

NIPSEN
I had 23-24 pfs, then i overclock my E8400, an drivers 180.84, now 35-50 fps.
Fed.Dogg
I've solved that problem overclocking my 4000+. I've got 25/30 fps now. Btw, thanks Serzhas!
caymans
The -fullspecaudio worked for me too to unlock my frame rate from a maximum of 22FPS to upwards of 37 indoors. My CPU (an Athlon 64 x2 4200+) plus GPU (ATI 4870 512MB) is apparently still insufficient to play the game well as FPS drops into the 10-18ish range outdoors, but this is the first time I've seen an FPS > 22. I too have a Creative Sound card (X-Fi) so that could be a common factor. GREAT FIND!!!
kbarber29
-norestrictions -nomemrestrict -frameLimit 0 -fullspecaudio -novblank My GTA didn't have a commandline.txt file, so I created one and added only the above. Is this all I need to put into it, or do I need to put stuff like -windowed into as well to get the fps boost?
kbarber29
I know the -novblank option worked, but overall, on my minimum requirement PC it had no effect from the -fullspecaudio. For minimum requirement Ati machines, this probably won't work for you. Here's hoping the Rockstar patch speeds things up and the upcoming Ati driver makes things look and run better. Zharay
Again let me restate that this is not a fps lock on vsync. Vsync runs at multiple values of 30 fps (or hz) (so 30, 60, 120, etc). This is locked at 22fps. Turning off vsync does nothing to fix this problem. Menus will run all the way up to 3000 fps but the game stays at 22 no matter what you do. Looking more that this is a creative audio card problem more than anything else now.
[email protected]
remove -novblank from ur commandline it will uncap fps again ... No go. My CPU must be too damn slow. Also my sound card has issues with most games. Thanks creative for not updating your Audigy 2 ZS drivers
Zharay
Welp I've narrowed down the problem. The game doesn't like 5.1 surround. Setting the system (windows) to stereo fixes and even improves the performance by a ton. I loose my rear speakers but the game is more stable running anywhere from 30-50 fps. Also, I can take out the high audio spec switch, giving even more performance.
Gibbo3771
lol, i have not done that command line trick but i bought another 9600GT too go SLI and that fixed it for me, i think ill just take that back too the shop now and type that simple little code

BigPET
Hello there, I tought it was normal, but after testing a bit, I also can't get more than 23 fps OUTSIDE. Inside I can get like 30-40fps. No problems there, but as soon I get out from the safehouse ithe FPS drops to 15... then it get's around 20. Depends if it's night or day. Now, I'v put everything to minimum. 1024x768 resolution and so on, I still don't get more FPS even that I should. I have tried to put -fullspecaudio into the command file but no results. Other suggestions? I don't have a sound card, only the onboard. My system is: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2,60gHZ NVidia9600GT 2GB RAM
