I see absolutely no difference whether I'm logged on to RGSC or not. People are saying there is but I fail to see why. Anyone care to elaborate from a scientific standpoint to why it is better? Not just by saying OMFG dude it totally werks.

OMG Thank you Loosha (Thread starter)!! I f**king love you! This really works. The game was unplayable before, really weird texture glitches, no radar, no pause menu etc.. sometimes the game wouldn't even load sad.gif

Now I can play it, runs quite nicely, and most importantly - no f'd-up graphics!

No super-fps but I wasn't counting on that, my PC is just barely over the min. req's.

Thank you! biggrin.gif

This is not complete bullcrap. I have noticed a good bit of difference with some of the command line params. It isn't great but is definitely better than before. I for one thank you for your post, even if it was a bit over exaggerated.

Also to whoever was talking about the equal signs after some of the params. It does work with width and height, I have no idea about everything else.

Well, I can confirm that on an ATI card, using the command-line options as suggested does work when I couldn't get the damn game to work natively except at 848 x 143 (or something equally stupid) with no shadows, draw distance about the length of Niko's nose, and no textures. It kinda looks like NFS:MW in low-res mode, only worse, with no anisotropics or antialiasing.

But it's pretty much unplayable at those resolutions, at around 6fps. Actually, it's not so bad if I blink quickly while I'm playing the game... mercie_blink.gif

I'm running XP x64 on a quadcore Opteron 2.6G with 4G ECC RAM, 1.5TB drive free space- but with a measly X1600 ATI 256MB PCI-e video card. Guess I'll be updating my video sooner rather than later...

So even if the OP is selling snake oil, it's real oil from a real snake.

YMMV? Mine did!

thanks.

i'm gettin around 35 fps.

q6600

4gb ram

8800gts 320mb.

question:

how what number should i put in the texture quality, etc to make it super high?

just to see how it will run

I feel pretty bad for the original poster. He's just a guy that wants to help, and obviously a lot of time went into making that post. He may have went way over the top suggesting a useless solution that happened to work for him, but should he even had the need to do that in the first place?

Absolutely not. The situation here is absolutely pathetic and inexcusable.

Joke or not, unfortunately it's all pipe dreams at this point. I have serious doubts that this port (and I use the term loosely) will ever have all of the problems fixed - whether it's graphics glitches, poor performance, control issues, or especially DRM issues.

Waste of $50. sad.gif

Yeah, it would be nice if the original poster was a corner case, but they ain't. Seems everyone's a corner case with this port. And for me coming into the IV game only recently (after 2 years of almost continually fighting Rockstar US and Europe sorting out their SecurROM problems and bugs for GTA:SA), it IS just a port of a real game. If I knew what it looked like in actual play, I would've bought an XBox 360 instead. That's what I saw the game running on, and I just assumed the port would be done at least as well... Sigh.

I've actually played the first 6 or so missions, but the problems are getting worse and worse the longer I play - apart from the unlighted interiors (and unwatchable interior cutscenes that leave you frantically reading the brief to see what just happened and with whom), controller lockup issues, flickering and disappearing shadows, poor textures, lousy dithering (dithering? at low resolutions? gimme a break, that's coding, not graphics hardware), and after the patch I now have no exterior wall or street textures at all - so I can't even find roads or places without using the map.

I think I'll wait a month or so and see what comes out of the developers' focus group sessions. I hope it's something approaching a real game, not this garbage.

It's a great storyline, but a really lousy port - FYI Rockstar, one does NOT make up for the other.

And I still have to shell out for some real graphics hardware, with no expectation that the coding problems will be fixed! At least ATI and NVidia will be doing very nicely this Christmas, thank you Rockstar! K-chingggg. K-chinggg.

just wanted to say that I totaly agree that SPECIALLY nvidia tries to get video upgrades with new games all the time.

I must mention the fact that when a sh*%@$y game came out named enter the matrix or whatever, it was meant to be played by nvidia on pc and did not support my (at that time) nvidia 4200 Ti 256mb and showed a stupid black screen. That frikin game was written for a ps2!! That was the time that I knew nvidia will do this stuff again and again.

well here's gta iv. you can't run it on a 7700 ge force with native 512mb memory. no! it has to be 7900 and more. the game just can't run on lower detail. sorry. buy a ps3, xbox (which btw microsoft will soon give away as a present if one buys a game jeez) or a better gpu.

BUT IT WORKS!!!

Well it does not matter since the COMMUNITY did the work for em and PROVIDED THEMSELVES with the game THEY DESERVE!!! Enjoy this Guide of mine I really hope it works for all of you as well as it does for me.

Feel free to ask if you need further help, comment and say tnx if this worked for you.

Hope you enjoy motherf*cking GTA IV!!!

What System are you running it on?????

When i do this all my game settings are just 1 and low, so yes fps incrase, but the look is ugly, also even with the lowest settings you can still see the get a life text from the same place where you are standing in the screen.

"X:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -windowed -texturequality=2 -renderquality=4 -detailquality=99 -viewdistance=99 -width=1280 -height=1024

Where X is your harddrive.

Go to your shortcut to GTAIV on your desktop (the icon you click on to play) and right click and go too properties. Enter above information where '-width=xxxx, -height=xxxx' you can put in your own resolution choice.

This works pretty well for me, smoothed gameplay pretty good.

Intel Core Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz

2 GB of Ram

Nvidia 9800 GT 1GB

This doesn't do sht and you know it so stop the BS.

Works for me. This is the same command lines I used when I first started playing the game, worked then...and still works now. For me anyway, don't know...maybe your SoL.
