Ok guys, I have a question to those who got this right and it helped them.

If you set your commands like you want, and go into the game, will you have THE SAME settings in-game as in the command line?

No matter what I set in the command line I get other things, like in CL I set textures =2 and yet in game I have set them to high. I set view distance to 25 and in-game it is set to 36.

I guess this isn't normal, right?

edit: I don't know if it matters but with the 180.84 drivers my game won't remember my settings after exiting the game.

Cheers.

It won't work if you hit the play button of social club. First sign in social club and close that window. and lanch the Exe again and social club

won't pop up, Hope that Helps  smile.gif

lol. 100% Not R* approved. Love that line. Anyway I wouldent try this just yet. R* does not support this. I would wait for the patch. If its crap then do this because it does actually work.

Guys, I found this method out myself, but my method does not involve setting the widtd and height using those commands, instead, under Windowed mode, set to 800x600 in the options and then Maximize the window using Task Manager. The res will scale automatically (it doesn't stretch). This, I believe, works better than the method advertised in the first post of this thread.

Didn't work for me...

Window-mode - Okay

FPS - Not okay

Res was 1024*768, I lowered all the settings to 1, but i have less FPS than in "normal mode".

In addition, the game crashed two minutes after the start sad.gif

This is how I´ve been running it from the first place.

Minimized the Social Club pop-up and ran it from the edited LaunchGTAIV.exe. This ain´t a breakthrough. You found a solution for yourself, that´s it.

Mine´s been running ok all the time (except for the XboX-kind-of stutterings and ATi-shadows)

Instead of buggering around with those commands in the shortcut, why not just make a file called commandline.txt in the main directory, and write all your commands in there? Much easier.

Firstly the settings: This is a known thing with these drivers - I think I even read this on the download page for the drivers (maybe!).

Secondly, pGrim has the solution:

Create a text file called commandline.txt in the GTAIV folder and put all your commands, on one line, in that file - Then it doesn't matter how you start the game, the commands should be found.

Nice approach, but that can't fix those loading problems I have. When I drive around for like 20 minutes or so, the game starts to stutter while it loads the textures of the upcoming objects ahead of me into the memory. Especially annoying in MP mode because the game kicks me with the message that my PC runs too slow. FPS is pretty decent, its those damn loading stutters that kill the fun whatsthat.gif I say it's the memory leak R* mentioned in the patch notes so there will be no fix (except for upgrading RAM from 2 to 4 gigs, which is not an option at the moment, because I spent 50 bucks into the game instead of memory).

Are you sure thats because of the RAM and not rather cause of missing space for textures in your VGA? I dont get stutters but some textures take a while to load in after some time on my machine too. And when your VGA-Memory is full i know the PC goes for memoryspace in the RAM - only this takes way longer = stuttering and low textures.

I have set the game settings to the absolute minimum possible, no matter what I do, the loading of new resources make the game stutter as hell which gives me like 3 fps while loading new stuff. 2GB should be enough and my 8800GT w/512 megs of vram should be enough as well. Must be the memory leak (in combination with Vista of course).

For those of you who still cant run the game (even with the -windowed string attached to the launchgta4.exe command line), try this out:

Right click on your task bar , then properties and untick the always on top option. The retry launching the game . It works for me.

Then as soon as your in, press ctrl-alt-del and maximize gta4, simply by selecting the right process-right click-maximize . This way only a

little edge on the top of the screen remains while playing, which isnt that bad....

Let me know if it works.

Cheers

why do you have = inbetween the number and code input what does that do?

-fullspecaudio -nomemrestrict -renderquality 4 -shadowdensity 10 -texturequality 2 -viewdistance 30 -detailquality 99 -width 1680 -height 1050 -refreshrate 60 -percentvidmem 100

Thats what i am doing any thing on vista any ways. any thing like -renderquality=4 with the equals sign does not work but the same thing like -renderquality 4 works.... i dont know what the = sign does. Could some one with Programing knowledge explaine.

Hey guys , i have just bought GTA IV and installed it . It took 1 minute to get the game loaded when i click the "start" button . This 1 minute load also affected my subsequent GTA IV games . During this load , the picture presentation is being played . I sorta get to look at all the pictures but shouldn't the load be faster ? My pal with a Duo Core , SP3 , 8800gt 512 mb runs faster than mine with a load time of 2 pictures . Mine has a whole presentation of pictures. Any suggestions ?

My comp specs :

OS : Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. SP1

Processor : Q6600 2.4 ghz

Memory : 4 gb 800mhz Kingston Hyper X

HDD : Maxtor 250gb

Graphics : EN8800 GTS 512 MB

Graphic driver ... Nvidia 180.84

I am thinking it could be due to SP3 because SP3 users seems to have a smoother game experience and shorter load time . Is there gonna have a fix for Vista Sp 1?
