PestilenceJM
Hi, i have searched the forum on how to get the "-norestrictions" command line to work. I had to search around alot and couldnt quite find out how to do it. Some people said it doesnt work. Some discussed the problem and gave me some ideas. I am not good in searching forums, so i havent found a definit answer in all the hundret posts i have scanned through. But i got myself thinking about the problems, and got it solved and running myself. Here is a step by step tutorial on how to use the "-norestrictions" commandline in order to free your graphic settings in the game and being able to e.g. set texture quality to "high": 1. You need the shortcut "Grand Theft Auto IV" on your desktop, right click -> properties. In the "Target" field should be written: "...\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" 2. Add the command line "-norestrictions" to the end of that "Target", so it looks like this ("..." is the folders you have in your shortcut): "...\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions and afterwards click "ok" 3. Start your rockstar social club, skip login (if needed to avoid the MMA10 error), and let the window open. Do NOT click "PLAY" in the Social Club window. 4. Now double click your "Grand Theft Auto IV" on the desktop, wich you edited in step 1 and 2, and look how it opens the black box and then the game. 5. Your done, if the game starts up, you should be able to set your graphic settings to whatever you want. ...i must say that this just worked for me. And i have no feedback from anyone yet, nor had i found anything in my forum search about people getting it working. So i will add a poll right here were people can tell us if they got it working. I hope i could help, and if this works for and helps everyone, then it could be sticked. Dingdongs and gagdaddykix

Jer1cho
Is there any way to get this to work if your PC is not connected to the internet? I only have a 3G phone as internet access, and rates are too darn high for me to online for more than like 5 minutes. So, does anyone know of a way to get rid of the restrictions without being logged into Social Club?
Ramsar
Using the first explanation I was able to get it working without restrictions (retail version)
Smiler-Online
@DVD Users: If you are using Vista x64 (64 bit) then use the folllowing instructions: If you launch your game from the Vista Games Explorer then follow these instructions: 1: Right Click the GTAIV Icon, 2: Click Customize, 3: Click the word 'Play (Play)', 4: then goto the bottom and click edit, 5: and paste this into the 'target' bar "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -NoRestriction (paste all of that into there including these "" ) (will only work If your running from the default install location) on the odd occation, it may not take affect, so I just restart the game, and everything works then!, (so if it doesn't work for you, just try it 3 times, before giving up...) Thanks, I tried briefly last night and the first attempt was a phail. Never bothered after that. I will go for a few tries this time round, I am more interested in testing the other command settings but they will have failed in the same way. Cheers. jesushumper
I tried that and every other guide I've seen on how to do that. Preddy
doesnt work for mefirst time i run the shortcut with -norestrictions it opens the social club and i skip the login process then i double click it again and it opens up a dos shell window then closes it and nothing happens nothing loads What OS are you using? I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 I had this exact same problem, solved it by logging into the Social Club before I clicked the shortcut for the second time. If you have that certain error, alt tab to the Social Club and log out before the intro is done. Shortcut = run as an admin btw.
Pew
I have to start the game with Social Club, otherwise GTA would crash. Is there any possibility else to get no restrictions?

I tried to creating a shortcut from the steamapps folder, but to no avail, but I am going to try the whole "close the prompt" and use the shortcut instead. Let me ask you this though. Can I go ahead and log into the Social Club and then double click the GTA IV shortcut, close the box and then start it again?

Nightingale
Got it working fine with the steam version. But unfortunately i find that it leads to distances being drawn late or every now and then after i look at them and some textures are missing. I believe that means ive gone well beyond the means of this card (HIS 4870 512mb GDDR5 OC:780/1090). Any tips or comments about what this could mean. Does the -Availablevidmem setting fix this? I want High textures but i dont want flashing scenes in the distance. Please Help.
